I have that as my text message notification. I had a crazy moment a few year back because of it. I was working at an aluminum plant that made engine parts for Toyotas. I was doing some remodel work in their office and my boss texts me. Newtype flash goes off and I hear from a nearby cubicle, "Kono pressah, sore wa Char?" I laugh and look in at the guy. I don't think it originated from Macross. This is a mix of two sound effects. BRRRRRRZ and WYYYYWYTWYT. The earliest work I can remember the two being in was in the 0079 compilation films.

If it just looks like a machine, albeit a very advanced one, they wouldn't realize it's steering them to extinction until it's too late

Also, is it just me or do all of Ideon's sound effects sound at least a little horrific? It's not like other super weapons where sound cool or just loud, a lot of Ideon's attacks sound absolutely monstrous

It's been a while since I've seen it, but didn't the settlers end up using Ideon simply because they were desperate and out of options upon being attacked? Under those circumstances, one could forgive them for at least TRYING to use Ideon, regardless of how it looks (and if they assumed that it was "pilotable").

But yes the sound effects are memorable yet fitting given the history of the machine itself. And on that note, unnaturally jarring at times.

The Ide pretty much was an abomination, even if it wasn't corrupting the pilots or anything. It killed all of humanity and the buff clan through meteor attacks against their home planets and colonies in order to judge the fate of chosen ones from both sides in the battlefield.

I guess one could compare it to the old testament god or something, but it didn't create humanity or anything, just judged itself on the position of deciding the fate of others because it has the power to do that.
