That's a consequence of highly focusing on the entire cast. I remember in Gaim when it was pretty obvious the world is getting fucked, vines everywhere and buildings are being deteriorating. Not to mention that in gaim, it felt larger, not because the threat was obviously powerful, but because the setting switched across different areas, the city, the team gaim base, the towering yggdrasil hq, and of course the forest. Seeing so many different backgrounds being affected by the events of the story really emphasized the threat.

Ex-aid on the other hand have few notable settings, really just the CR hq and occasional inside of Genm Corp building. In a way, having few backgrounds make the events feel smaller.

I say that having more character focus cause the threat to seem less harmful is because most characters aren't far off from the other casts. Parad always fucks around with Emu and his gang and Masamune is always with Hiiro and Kiriya, and all of them constantly clash, while when in Gaim some characters rarely interact with other people, some becoming throwaways and flat. As a result of having more character focus, people and Hiiro and Kuroto are able to shine often.

Ex-aid is more character driven than event driven. That's my take anyways.

What? The ending of the original series is a clear cliff hanger, with the weak Great Leader final battle and the circuit board that falls from him blowing up before Rider 1 and 2 can check it. It's not as obvious as in V3, where he's clear shown to be speaking from some recorder, but it's clearly there.

I was anticipating for the intro to start getting hype as they replaced those random, possible citizens with the actual people the Riders turned out to be. Then also removing them as they went out of commission. I guess Toei hadn't built up the knack of being clever or creative with their show openings yet.

So let me see if I understand this.

The future in Drive's Surprise Future film had 004 posing as Krim with the real Krim having been killed by Banno's chip. Meanwhile, Banno, who's actually in charge, wrecks havoc all over the world as Gold Drive to tarnish the reputation of both the late Shinnosuke and his former colleague. 108's attempts to hijack this empire wound up undoing it as Krim was cleanly resurrected because of his tampering. Is that about right?

The new episode might have been delayed, but I still managed to get my weekly Kamen Rider. I even shook Ex Aid and Brave's hands and have them a high five. Let me tell you, if you ever manage to go to Japan, you have to attend a stage show. Actually seeing Riders fight bad guys in real life is an amazing experience.

He likes to try to connect things, but he really dropped it for Drive.

Slow, awful start.

Really bad mid 16-24 as well with the Chase subplot.

Chase immediately jobs after becoming Chaser.

Plot slows to almost a crawl after Freeze dies.

Heart is actually sidelined as a villain for Banno. I guess he was too popular with the ladies to be the final baddie.

Banno outside of being crazy, and no where as entertaining as Dan, has no real threat to him. All he does is laugh like a maniac, but he wasn't a real threat.

Basically the show is at its best during the Freeze arc, but it makes Chase job.

And the Gold Drive arc is cool if you're into fights and pure mayhem, but yeah.

Drive is definitely lighthearted and feels like it didn't know what it wanted to do a lot of the time.

With shows like Gaim and Ex-Aid, there's a clear goal at all times, with the stakes always being gloomy and intense.

Drive may have the gloom, but there's a lot of silliness going on that dumbs it down. I think Fourze definitely had a better pacing structure, but one could argue that show also came to a crawl after the Ryusei plotline was resolved too.

The last episode we even had him raving about how it's all his fault and that just means he's so brilliant that the only real opponent worthy of him is his own intellect/inventions. Taddle Legacy might take the wind out of his sails a bit, but otherwise he's so conceited and unrepentant that even the heroes have long since given up trying to make him fess up for the evil he's done. At most he's only being kept in line to kick his Dad and Parrad's asses and keep Poppy happy, but I've no doubt he's going to hijack the final boss spot once everything is said and done since with how things are accelerating against Chronos I don't think he can last as the big bad for the rest of the show

I am disappointed that Level X-0 only has the power to game over repeatedly at this point.
