>You will never be hugged by Del Toro

I'm not sure I've ever seen someone from Hollywood more genuinely happy about a thing than Del Toro was here.
>>15619200
He represents the best of us.
>>15619200
There was that time when Del Toro got to see the 1:1 Gundam statue

>who is this filthy gaijin and when he will finally fuck the fuck off?
Our guy
c-chikara tsuyoi...
>>15619182
Pretty sure it was one of those awkward cross cultural moments. Just look at Nagai after Del Taco hugs him out of nowhere.
why would i want to hug a fat hairy jew?
>>15619182
Literally /ourguys/
>>15619340
>tfw there is still hope for all of us
>>15619724
I think he was a little embarrassed but in the Interview afterwards he seemed really honored to be an inspiration to someone like Del Toro and said that he "hugged with Mazinger-like strength."
>>15619200
>ywn be as genuinely happy about anything as del Taco is about most things

>Sensei Go Nagai
How to spot a fake weeb
>>15619785
>Sensei (先生) is a Japanese honorific term that is literally translated as "person born before another"
>or to show respect to someone who has achieved a certain level of mastery in an art form or some other skill
Seems correct to me. Koji calls Professor Yumi sensei as well.
>>15619182
>You'll never personally thank Uncle Go for all the fetishes he's shared with you over the years
>>15619798
You use 'sensei' as a suffix, so it'd be Go Nagai-Sensei.
You fucking FAKE WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEB REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
>>15619812
ごめなさい WEEB せんせい
>>15619746
>mazinger like strength
Is it because he's fat?
>>15619835
That would be more Borot-like strength.
>>15619812
Fuck off, reeetard.
>>15619781
Yeah but it's balanced out by the fact that some amazingly shitty things happened in his life. I mean he's been living in exile for years.
>you will never work for del toro
>>15619821
>ごめなさい
南無阿弥陀仏

I'm pretty sure a true Japanese/weeb wouldn't call that "2つ「ん」"

>he's been living in exile for years.
What?

there isn't any more now that you posted a flavortown reaction

When Del Toro was a kid, his father won the Mexican lottery. Instead of just spending it, he invested it in creating a car dealership empire, making him many times richer.
But that's not the tragic part, the tragic part is his father at one point was kidnapped by mexican crimelords because of his money. They paid the ransom, but Del Toro's family has more or less permenantly left their home country for their own safety. As Guillermo himself said, "Every day, every week, something happens that reminds me that I am an involuntary exile [from my country]."
>I cannot pontificate about it, but by the time I'm done, I will have done one movie, and it's all the movies I want. People say, you know, "I like your Spanish movies more than I like your English-language movies because they are not as personal", and I go "Fuck, you're wrong!" Hellboy is as personal to me as Pan's Labyrinth. They're tonally different, and yes, of course you can like one more than the other – the other one may seem banal or whatever it is that you don't like. But it really is part of the same movie. You make one movie. Hitchcock did one movie, all his life.
>>15621809
>Hitchcock did one movie, all his life.
Spot on. Same with Steven Spielberg.
>>15621807
It didn't help that Del Toro was also making a $30 million dollar film at the time. His family was a big target for the cartels.
>>15619200
Gilly D is not really what Id call "Hollywood" and I mean that in the highest regard
>>15621844
I know what you mean, he's still made Hollywood blockbusters but he's not exactly a part of the system. I meant it as a compliment that he's someone who can work in that world yet remain so genuine.
>>15621818
For 90% of them I'd agree, but Schindler's List never felt like a Spielberg movie to me. It lacked the...whimsy his films have, and for good reason.
But otherwise yes he has a very signature style. I may not like Hook, but you can definitely tell he made it.
