Clearly mecha anime sells(Mostly via plamo), which is why they are still going on. It just ain't as popular as it used to be, and that's fine.
Its better not to oversaturate the market so the viewers don't get tired of mecha anime anyway.

I enjoy watching it, and I have no shortage of people to discuss mecha shows with because /m/.
The fact that it's a niche genre does not cause a "feel" of any kind. Back in the late 80's and early 90's it made friendships with the few people I knew that were also into it that much more fun, but even then it didn't bother me that it wasn't something that everyone was into.

Sure we do. There's a thread on the first page discussing who (if anyone) the "bad guy" of IBO was. There's a thread discussing the practicality of transforming mecha in space. There's a thread about differing levels of damage from the different colony drops.

Why should I care what someone who jacks off to little cartoon girls thinks about my robot shows?

The only thing I'm sour about is people literally haven't seen the good /m/ shows and just assume anything that qualifies as a /m/ show can be summed up with either code geass, or TTGL.

Other than that I'm fine with it being relativity unpopular, and it's kind of justified since we've only had like three good shows in the past 10 years.

In the UC Gundam mobile suits were initially designed for combat in space. So instead of space fighters (which there were a few of like the Gattle) you have what are essentially giant space suits designed to carry heavy weapons to defeat capital ships and escorts.

Even the original Mobile Suit Gundam acknowledges this with the development of the Dom line for combat under Earth gravity. And then the Rick Dom when Zeon pulls back to space.
