I like the roster as it is, but I can't deny that we have some faces that could possibly be rotated out over some of the newer guys. Players like the medals, Godmars and Megas are essential to the team and it's culture but I wouldn't mind if Tekkaman Blade or Scopedog took a leave to let some of the newer faces like Mach Windy or Yamato have more fun in the spotlight.

Also making this reminded me how much our rosters sucked in 2014/winter 2015.

Well...there's a problem with this. Scopedog, along with Megas and Gunbuster, retain permanent positions on the team. This was something that has been in place for at least 3 years or so. They're normally such iconic players who always had overwhelming support to stay so we essentially take them off the polls since we all seem to be in agreement about them. At this point, they are the unchanged remains of that original squad GoldTiger set up back in 2012.

I disagree with the Mazinger and Getter results and suggest we actually make a change on both players. Here's the deal. I suggested Mazin Emperor G. Someone else suggested Mazinger ZERO.

I voted for change, and so did the people who voted for ZERO. If I knew my Mazin Emperor G was going to cannibalise the votes of ZERO and vice versa, I wouldn't have suggested it. Or at least I think we should have been made aware of this.

I thought you people were taking this into account, and not split it in 3 different choices.

The combined votes Mazin Emperor G and ZERO outnumbers those who don't want change. This leads you to the correct conclusion, that people want changes for them.

There are two ways to go about this.

The first correct way would have been multiple selection checkboxes where you could select multiple upgrades. The second correct way would be your way like one of the earlier polls.

You first choose if you want an upgrade or not. If you do, then you get two more options. But the poll didn't do any of this, and are we supposed to be surprised that neither upgrades are happening?

Hibiki coming back was expected, although I would've preferred Layzner coming back with a sick new model with a little Eiji inside. Not that I mind though, I'm fine with the outcome since it's not Strike Freedom, the blender definitely needs an upgrade though.

The only problem I have with the dropped team members are Space Battleship Yamato since he's got a fairly unique blender on a team of bipedal robots and a guy on a bike. Valkyrie is a bit of a loss too since I feel Macross deserves a permanent spot as much as Gundam/Mazinger/Getter do but I can understand why he got kicked off.

I dunno how I feel about the newcomers though. Metal Gear REX is cool, but I don't know if we need both him and 2B. Just one vidya dude is enough, and I'd rather have the actual robot over a robot made to look as human as possible. Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann is an odd choice, like I'd understand regular Gurren Lagann or TTGL, but still. Barzam will be weird but I'm okay with it for the /m/emes. Dan is alright as long as we get a DANGEROUS ZOMBIE model on the pitch.

I'm fine with Shin Getter and Mazinger staying the same for now, but if the council wants to try the "Hey do you wanna change Shin Getter/Mazinger/What do you want to change him to if you do wanna change him" option next time we poll for the roster I'm ok with it.

Mazinger and Getter are due for upgrades in a long time. Even Gundam got upgraded and Char got a whole new Zaku head even though it's very recent. You say you will use this time to spend on aesthetics. OK that's cool, but going by the poll, the aesthetics that people want to change the most is Getter and Mazinger, not Dan. Shouldn't the priority for the people who voted and won, not on Dan or whatever you guys pre-selected? I mean, I wanted to see Cutie Honey aesthetics. Guess what? It never saw the light of day and it got kicked out already. All I expected was you guys were going to reuse Hibiki's aesthetics for Honey's, that would save time, but nope. Nothing.

Update guy, it's not a question of "need". It's more a question of "want". I totally get that these aesthetics take time. 3d modelling isn't something you learn and do overnight, but every cup, I have the impression that we have no control over who gets aesthetics and who doesn't.

So, there's some controversy on the recent decisions, so I'm going to explain my reasoning (which was endorsed by a Council quorum).

Aesthetics for medal players take significantly more person-hours than those for other players. This is simply because we want them to be the best they can be, since medal players feature prominently in most goals and replays. "More than a month" is not nearly as long as people think, especially if we want something up to our quality standards, and we want to be 100% sure it'll work properly in PES without crashing on the streamer.

We maintain relatively high-quality aesthetics for all of our defenders and subs in addition to our medal players, and the newcomers need effort to be brought up to the team average.

Thus, even if the upgrades had won the poll, there is no guarantee they would have been available for Summer.

If you want more aesthetics, or more progress on them, I'd suggest contacting /maes/ at https://discord.gg/QdvCWn and seeing what you can do to help.

Even if the poll was executed now, medal aesthetic changes would likely not be ready for Summer. Even if an option had won, on the original poll, changes would not probably have been ready for Autumn or Winter. I'd rather come out front and say it than get false expectations up.

The plan is to put the poll in the threads for each of our games in Summer, where it will attract the larget amount of attention and get the most accurate representation of the /m/ following. The reason this poll, and most roster polls, is earlier than Cup season is because we need our roster prepared in advance. Since the upgrades will not be complete for Summer anyway, we decided to get as much hyp on the new poll as possible.

I feel like addressing this one specifically, because almost EVERY /m/ player has some degree of aesthetics.

The only two players with placeholder aesthetics, Mach Windy and Escaflowne, were voted in by last poll and out by this poll.

In order to not waste effort on players who will immediately be removed from the team, efforts are concentrated on players who get relatively few votes on the "drop from the team" polls (such as Scopedog); new players are given aesthetics as much as possible, usually at least special heads, but upgrades are given out to players who have been around longer with priority.

The decision to not use many full-body models for our players is deliberate. It allows us to make use of our (increasingly extensive) kit library, and makes things easier on the commentators. Further, we expect that full-body models might be restricted by /merit/ in the near future, much like they currently are by the /vg/ League rules, in which case we don't have to worry as much about wasted effort.

Again, the /maes/ team has a lot on their plate, and would be very glad to see volunteers (see my earlier post for the Discord link) to ease the burden. Especially if there's a player who you want to see get better aesthetics, but is a newcomer who isn't a priority beyond faces.

So technically, if I suggest the upgrade next poll which will be for autumn, and it wins, then we'll only see it in Winter 2017 or even Spring 2018? So why not throw the poll now? At least you have it in your backlog and no one has to wait till next year to see it. UG already admitted he made a mistake in the way he designed the choices.

The "new" poll will be done at the end of Summer, and will be the priority aesthetics goal in the lead up to Autumn (or Winter, because again, we might not be relegated).

Also, we don't do roster changes and polls every single cup.

/m/'s roster is less about actual board culture and more MC mechs/MC characters, and has been since at least 2013 when dudes like Project ENIS and Vintage Gundam got dropped, which I don't really mind.

I posted >>15621198 and I stand firm for my opinions. Hibiki, Barzam, Metal Gear Rex, and Dan are fine. Chouginga GL is an odd choice but there were better options. 2B is fucking dumb any way you look at it. I wouldn't have minded if Tekkaman Blade was dropped because I kinda feel like he's been on long enough that I'd be fine if he left.

Like I was really looking forward to more Yamato in summer, but I guess playing for a single cup was enough for the ship. Maybe the council could try doing less new players but players added from the last poll are exempt from being kicked off in the next poll since they're too new. That or do a "Two-cup" minimum before players can get the boot.
