I still dont get the Orbital Frames have cockpits
>>

Yoji Shinkawa thought it was funny, not even joking

http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/zoe2/english/interview_01.html
>>
when you cant draw legs but you try to make it work
>>
>>15584796
>Shinkawa : This is another idea from my school day sketches.
>This is one major characteristic of Orbital Frames. The name explains it well. It is a COCKpit. When the Orbital Frame is in Flight Mode, it springs up and points in the direction the frame flies.
What a fucker.
>>
>>15584772
you think that's weird... the tharsis from aldnoah has actual feet-looking "feet" but instead of turning into one, it flops backwards upside down for some stupid reason.
>>
>>15584772
They're armored core V legs.
>>
>>15584835
I still love it
>>
>>15584772
Ksen draws these things at four in the morning instead of sleeping. On a daily basis. He really doesn't plan them out very far in advance.
>>
>>15584835
>>15584928
Looks like it's for a very good reason. The backpack looks as heavy as the front.
>>
>>15584928

IMO the color distribution of its feet gives the impression they were broken and then snapped backwards.
>>
>>15584928
Is it wrong I actually like this a lot?
>>
>>15585172
>>15584928

I love this design. A lot of the Aldnoah villain mecha were cool.
>>
>>15584928
I love its arm thing since it just needs to flip to go from long to close range
>>
>>15584796
>>15584821
That was surprisingly sincere. I admire that.
>>
>>15584928
Feet aside, I do like the design.
>>
>>15584928
Never watched aldnoah but the weird mars mechs looked cool

That was the thought process.

Hey, I follow you on tumblr, and I think your output and project is impressive. What is the end goal of it though? I can imagine it's good for nailing a certain drawing process and exploring diverse designs. But I do think it makes the images a bit limiting when the poses, perspective, color palette and backgrounds are very similar to each other.

Also, I'm not sure about that thing where you turn down the opacity (or lower the contrast or whatever) on the body half that is furthest away from us. I think that creates the illusion of atmospheric haze, which works for landscapes and such, but I'm not sure it's suited for designs like these. Unless the mechs are gigantic, I guess. Maybe experiment more with softer edges to create depth illusion? Not entirely sure that works with mechs though, but maybe.

Anyways, I think your brushwork is really cool, keep it up. And I wish I had the same art output as you.

>What is the end goal of it though?
not being lazy ass. That's about it honestly. Numbers are just cause I can't name stuff period
before I got habit of daily sketches I was hardly making any personal work more than once a week if not less, it's easy to check, just check regularity of updates before dailybots.
>I think that creates the illusion of atmospheric haze, which works for landscapes and such, but I'm not sure it's suited for designs like these.
yeah, such separation is easiest way to show some distance between objects and actually separate them visually, so it's easier to show volume.
Of course it's not ideal and surely not realistic way to do it, but more proper ways of showing the volume of object requires more skill and knowledge than I have atm.
so basically, it just shows my lack of skillset, that's why it's there for now and I dunno when it'll go away completely. sorry about that
>Anyways, I think your brushwork is really cool, keep it up. And I wish I had the same art output as you.
thanks. it just takes to make a habit. I just can't go to rest or sleep nowadays without finishing one. I feel uneasy.
>>15585981
I still didn't played GB3 after getting it tho. and SD G GGG too
>>
>>15586042
>I feel uneasy.

I know that feeling, even though I don't finish a piece a day. But if I don't do any drawing at all for a day it feels bad.

Anyways, don't be so hard on yourself, though I know that is the default mindset for artists. I think there's good progress looking through your pieces, and as long as you learn something that's good. I'd just suggest experimenting a bit more, get out of the comfort zone a bit, and you'll learn even more.

Perhaps try artificial lighting or surroundings a bit more, as well as different perspectives.

I try to use more line sketching approach from time to time recently, instead of focusing on silhouette block in. That shakes things up a bit. Mostly a lot of difference in shapes and overall designs than in perspective
actual fun perspective is usually really tricky and eats a whole lot of time and I actually need to think, that's why I don't do it often. Also few last weeks, even months, weren't that great to focus on experiments honestly. Unlucky year health wise.

>Seriously, what's the deal with these legs?

It's the standard Sci-fi double-something legs. However, they;re mounted the other way around.

Why use the weird leg design? To get a humanoid with dinsaur legs, of course. Shit's cool, yo.
