Tallgeese looks closer to a Centurion then a Hoplite/Phalangite though. More Roman aesthetic then Greek.

This. I don't care at all for Tallgeese, but Tallgesse II hits all my buttons. I have a similar situation with the Unicorn, I love Unicorn in Unicorn Mode, but think it looks crappy in Destroy Mode, whereas I love the Banshee in Destroy Mode, and think that it looks terrible in Unicorn Mode.

That's not even historically accurete. Centurions' helmet looked like pic related and they used rectangular shields.

Additionally, Bigbird's shield hangs from its shoulder mount to replicate the Macedonian guige, which allowed them to use their sarissa with both hands while also being partially defended by their shields. This is something Roman soldiers distinctly did not commonly use with their shields.

It's the Romantic design. The Corinthian-style helmet, the round shield on one arm, the lance-like long-barreled rifle on the other arm, the pearl-white and gilded-trim color scheme to denote high class/status, with the bright red crest at the top to signify high rank too. It's stylized to just the right degree, without going too far and looking like blatant fantasy, ala GaoGaiGar.

It wasn't rebuilt with gundanium alloy. All official and semi-official sources state titanium as the armor for Tallgeese units 1 through 3.

Also, it wasn't given "modern armaments", it's implied in background and databook fluff that the Leo received a cheaper projectile-only version of the Tallgeese's dual mode dobergun. No Leo has ever been shown having a beam dobergun, except for the one time that Heero used one.

It's a terrible design. It's lack of colour and detail makes it look simplistic and forgetable. It's head, arguably mobile suit's most iconic characteristic, is bland. The limbs look a lot like pipes/tubes cut in the middle to fasilitate joint motion. The hips are huge, moving the visual center of mass down and making the robot seem feminine.
It's a fugly robot with an awkward name. I wouldn't even ride it to the junkyard.

Go the Tallgeese III take on the WZ or Epyon?

I actually love it.

The giant AMBAC goddess wings fit the regal appearance of the Tallgeese FAR better than the Wing Zero, especially with the jousting lance thing.

It give off the appearance of a winged knight, which just emphasizes the absolute FUCK out of Millardo's ego in comparison to Heero's, who couldn't care less about imagery on a battlefield.

The former is EXACTLY in-character for Millardo, but sacrificed the potential for a continuity fix by making the wreckage of the original Wing Gundam (which really wasn't THAT wrecked) the recipient of the Flugel Wings and thus making IT the Wing Zero Custom, which would have made far more sense, if Sumizawa had a brain in his fucking skull considering Proto Zero doesn't look to share many parts with the original Wing Gundam beyond the basic frame (Gundanium alloy is supposed to be hard to refine in the first place, so the idea of them re-shaping the entirety of Proto Zero's armor into something resembling Wing Gundam for the sake of...no reason at all is fucking ludicrous a concept, considering Gundanium is supposed to have ridiculous heat and impact tolerance. Would have made more sense to go with the existing Gundam that actually looked like an early version of WZC)

The latter was a joke from a non-canon manga that was used to hand-wave away a genuine continuity concern.

In other words, GoL fucked up the most basic part of the ONLY job it had, which was re-adapt the story of Gundam Wing to fit the EW redesigns.
