So people just like this trash because the girls get naked constantly? But Anno made it so it is "deep"

Titties are just icing on the cake.
You've made this thread before.

what's wrong with you?

I will never not be mad the BD release removed her pubes

censorship reasons most likely

Yeah, they're deep all right.

Sometimes I want to watch a good story.
Sometimes I just want bathing scenes with underage anime girls.
Depends on how I feel on that day really.
>>15562800
Ok man you seriously haven't watched Gunbuster. Here is how it is :
>> COACHEE
>> ONEE-SAMA
>> dat FLY HIGH
>> TITTIES AND BATHS
Gunbuster the robot is just the icing on the cake
>>15562793
I eventually liked it because of the scale of things and the stakes were insane
>Humanity has explored a fuckload of space
>Spaceships are really really damn big
>Giant alien creatures who can travel through the vacuum of space who number in the millions in most battles
>Humanity generally loses through sheer attrition
>Time dilation effect
>The final episode
Despite being really short I still had to force myself to watch it until things clicked, shit kept getting more and more crazy until the "We built a fuckin dyson sphere around Jupiter to create a black hole bomb" then I realised I'm really enjoying this.
>>15562982
That was a crime.
It was also a crime that it didn'T catch on in OVAs.
>>15562793
Who has ever claimed Gunbuster is deep? What lazy bait is this?
>>15565279
It really was. I still feel slighted.
>>15562793
I didn't like anything about it at all. It made me watch Ace wo Nerae so it isn't a complete waste.
>>15565202
I get that effect from Ideon honestly. Different strokes, I can see what you see.
>>15562793
I love the show but I wouldn't consider any part of it deep. Anno is a hack.
Reason to like this:
- it play "serious business" using an assumed fan-service setting
- the animation is 90s high-quality
- nice sound-track
- iconic sequences that would be awesome whatever the context
- it add relativistic time dilatation, which is extremely rare in fiction, let alone anime
- it play with design and technological evolution in a funny pseudo-serious way
- it imply that human are a virus on a galactic scale
- it play with greater size scale than most other mecha series
- At the time it was much more unique than it is now
Nobody pretended it was "deep", however it is definitely not "shallow" in many of its aspect, philosophical included
It's may not be to your taste but anime fan usually recognize what it is appreciated
>>15567145
>the animation is 90s high-quality
It's not from the 90s and doesn't look like it, youngster.
>But Anno made it so it is "deep"
Nobody ever said that seriously.
Gunbuster is a beautiful show to look at, that's the main reason I like it. Noriko is also a charismatic character, but a lot of the drama she goes through is not exactly well written.
>>15567179
I think he meant the animation quality was ahead of its time. I've read similar phrases describing the animation in, say, a ZZ Gundam review.

We're confined to a single planet and a satellite; the space shellfish are the ones that go infesting every star they happen across.

If it makes you feel any better it was already at the top of the first page the second time it was bumped.
It's literally a superior version of Interstellar.
>>15567145
>- it imply that human are a virus on a galactic scale
Where did you get that idea? Wasn't it the aliens who were consuming stars
>>15569365
It took less than 20 years in Gunbuster universe to turn a planet into a BOMB THAT SWALLOW GALAXY
If the human didn't pic war with the alien first, we would be fighting each other with the same kind of bomb.
>>15569368
Don't worry, someone will bump the thread for you
>>15569504
Well, Gunbuster plot without the fanservice would actually be really cool.
But Interstellar introduce actual time-travel and closed loop. The idea of future human controlling space and time is awesome.
We just need to find a way to mix Gunbuster megastructure with Interstellar space/time shenanigan

There's plenty of reasons why people like Gunbuster
>>15570600
If humanity is the cancer of the galaxy and the space monsters are trying to kill humanity for that reason, Why is humanity evolving into space monsters in Diebuster?
>>15570645
There's got to be some context to this image that isn't implied bestiality.
>>15570648
>There's got to be some context
that cap is not from gunbuster.
iirk that OVA is about a girl and her dog rintintin who actually wants to fuck is owner.
>>15570600
Reminder, in Diebuster the alien areforgotten human-made robots to fight the previous monsterproblem, the topless arehuman evolving with space monster ability, attracting the robots wrath
>>15570647
Evolution isn't guided, then see >>15570663, the old monster could as well be a previous alien defense system gone wrong then evolving naturally
The only reason I see for Buster machine tonot kill the topless is that they were built more intelligent before the decline of humanity

>>15576024
Beyond the ridiculously obvious reference of Gunbuster's actual title being "Top wo Nerae," the characters of Noriko and Kasumi apparently strongly resemble the protagonists of Aim for the Ace. It was Anno using something he watched as a teen as a basis for a show again
>>15562800

> no 'WELCOME BACK'

>>15570583
Nah, no one would actually use that bomb in a war between ourselves, it would be the same situation than in the Cold War, we have all of these weapons of mass destrouction but we will never use them out of fear of extermination
Wasn't that bomb created as a last resort against the aliens?
Reminder that Noriko stood by and did nothing while Smith got destroyed by the ayylmaos.
>>15577268
she was spooped
>>15577263
You forget something: we don't want to use nuclear weapon because we are on the same planet, we can't hide and we know how radiation spread without being possible to get rid of it.
If Mankind colonize space (planet or space station) it's not a stretch for us to believe we can use mass produced Exelion-class BH bomb and win if we shot first
And the first one to hide on another galaxy could use Jupiter-sized bomb
The Buster machine 3 wasn't so much a last resort than a desperate attack, the only way to destroy an enemy capable of breeding on nearly every solar system is to "destroy" those as fast as possible before they overwhelm you. The "first strike" needed to hit the galaxy.yes that's a case of writer having no sense of scale, but it's not like a medieval would believe possible to destroy a kingdom in 3 minute

>I'm saying they're not lookalikes, they just look alike
Doesn't matter that they were drawn by the same person they still look alike either way you dumb fuck. Next you'll say Shinji doesn't look like Nadia because they were both designed by Sadamoto.
>>15581085
Don't feel like you have to play damage control with me because you didn't know one of the most accomplished character designers of all time. It was clear by the language and context used by "him" that "he" didn't know who Mikimoto was, otherwise his post wouldn't warrant such a base observation. And Nadia and Shinji have similar features across the board save for hair and eye color. Meanwhile, there are more differences between Chris and Al, hair, facial structure, eyebrows ect.
>>15581163
You're replying to a retarded millennial or to a troll. Either way, you're wasting your time.
Needless to say, though, you are absolutely right.
I'm just gonna jump in here as I actually watched Gunbuster and Diebuster for the first time ever the other day.
I feel like I'm missing some important aspect as to why so many folks like it, because why I'll absolutely concede the animation quality is great, the story is pretty weak. Yeah the time-dilation aspect is interesting, but it kind of feels like Anno just happened to really like "The Forever War" The plot is jumpy and awkwardly paced as hell. (Jung's mood swings and Onee-Sama's sudden love for Coach for instance).
Like, is it a lot more interesting if you watched "Aim for the Ace" first or something?
Diebuster was a lot more interesting, although it suffered from similar pacing issues. The payoff at the end tying it into Gunbuster was great though.
I'm sorry if my thoughts aren't coherent. The point I'm trying to make is that it just didn't live up to the hype for me.
>>15582403
As was said, we never seriously said it was "DEEP", but I would also say that Gunbuster 2 (Diebuster) is much deeper despite shittier new-age graphic
Someone have the loooong screenshot of what a 40k poster said about the link between the two series? I can't find it I think I left it on an old PC.
Just found it
>>15582403
I would say at the time the novelty was big,
Not saying Gunbuster inspired a lot of other show but you still don't find a lot of anime who deal with big scale that well (and nowadays anime mostly do better because they use computer to copy/paste large fleet, instead of 2 good/evil spaceships).
"Forever War" is not very well known for the public who watched Gunbuster, for most it is/was the only story they watched who dealt with time-dilatation.
A few things are also still not common, Smith didn't have any deathflag on him and could have become a new mentor archetype, Noriko could have not gone through a posttraumatic stress phase
The past of Noriko is also somewhat novel, both "time dilatation meant he could have still been alive" or because there's a LOT to say about this clear case of nepotism.
Myself I don't know a lot of stories that show a lensman arms race as distinct.
The link with "Aim for the Ace" is limited, more like a parody that only lasted for 2 episodes.
Last thing:
it have all the above in a single 6 OAV with great graphic. Sometime all you need for success is to use a lot of neat ideas at the same time. (It's kind of disappointing when a show could have been much greater if they didn't use weak cliché)
>>15572296
>Rating
>4.99
That is an accomplishment.
Someone post that gif or webm of that bathhouse scene they censored out of later releases that showed Noriko's pubes.
>>15582403
The reason Gunbuster works as well as it does is because of the way it depicts Noriko's emotional journey. I've seen a lot of fucking anime, and Noriko is probably the easiest character to connect to because her reactions feel very real without the usual anime overexaggeration, many of the personal situations she's in are quite realistic (even if the overall conflict isn't) and it's easy to understand why she behaves the way she does. The whole show is in service of this; every single episode is about some other facet of Noriko, which is why the overall plot is jumpy. But the overall plot isn't particularly interesting anyway, just another humans vs invaders story, so they were right to focus on Noriko instead
Apart from that, it's a bit hard to describe, but I think the overall work has a bit of an inherent charm to it for how roughly it plays out at times. Gunbuster has the feel of a movie made by bunch of college amateurs with a passion for the anime they grew up with. Regardless of whether or not you think they had any talent, it certainly seems like a work made with a lot of love.
