I've been rewatching Medabots as of late, what are some good Medabots games?
>>
>>15552822
All I remember from that is octopus balls.
>>
the GBA one was pretty cool
>>
>>15552822
Where did the money come from to make Medabots look so good?

the animation, what the hell
>>
>>15552822

>>
>>15552825

Don't know, but I always loved how organic the first season looked, both the Medabots and the human character designs were very appealing to me, a bit minimalistic but still great.

Always loved Arcbeetle.
>>
Is there some new nightly ritual when /v/ suddenly becomes /a/ or is that when everybody just stops pretending?
>>
The GBA RPG is great, start there OP.
>>
>>15552825
Money isn't a big issue when you have talented animators working on the show, they can make great stuff even with avarage budget.
>>
>>15552830
this, the animators were just top notch for their time and they probably put their full heart and soul into it
>>
>>15552824
>>15552829
I heard there were games for the Color and DS as well, but only in Japan. Is there any fan translation, or only the GBA ones that are in english?
>>

what's a good place to download the show?

The 3d browser game

Its a 10/10
>>
>>15552836
I wonder how the fuck did the studio managed to snag those guys to work on a marketing campaign disguised as an anime.

Ufortunately, even with some amazingly animated sequences, it still didn't blow up enough to make the rest of the series get localized, only the GBA games.
>>
>>15552840
In this episode Imaishi drew a medabutt upskirt.
>>
The GBA RPG, which is a remake of 2, is pretty good. AX is neat.

Pretty much all the others are stuck in Japan, with the numbered titles all being on GBC and 3DS. The first game had a translation in the works but I haven't heard anything about it in over a year. The most recent game, Medarot 9, currently has a translation in the works that seems to be making steady progress.
>>
>>15552841
Truly /ourguy/
>>
>>15552841
This episode had some insane human faces though. It was so extreme and over the top. Truly memorable animation
>>

Holy shit, is the series that popular on Japan, or is it so low budget that it pays the development cost with a couple dozen copies sold?

The only Medabot games in english are for GBA and Gamecube, everything else is Japanese.
GBC has most of the mainline, DS has one game, and the 3DS has 5; 3 mainline and 2 spinoffs
There are some fan translation projects, but I don't know if any of them are finished

Man, whenever I see these artworks, it just doesn't click with me. I'm too used to the show's simplistic character design to dig the look of the humans in the newer games.

>>
>>15552845
They put them out yearly in the GBC days, like MMBN/SF or a Level-5 property, until sales plummeted to ubsustainable levels after 5 and the series went on hiatus after a couple GBA spin-offs and remakes. 2 actually broke a million in Japan though and the GBC era was generally pretty popular, like probably what is Sonic levels of popularity there. There was a 6 on the DS, but it wasn't numbered and 7 on 3DS totally retconned it. Those two both sold a couple hundred thousand units, 8 sold several ten thousand which was worse but still enough to make money for the budget, 9 sold like total shit due to fatigue and bankrupted one of the devs.

The 3DS games has had a whole lot of artstyle changes over each game. The last game the original character designer worked on was M6/DS. It's looks pretty different from his previous works, though
>>

"Starting July 1st, 2016, Rocket Company will be no more. The Japanese publisher behind the Medarot games will be merged with its parent company Imagineer. The move is being made as Imagineer plans to transition its business to focus less on packaged software for dedicated gaming devices and more on games for smart phones/tablets. While the company will continue to release games on dedicated platforms, worsening market conditions will see fewer titles launch as they review their business strategy."
I think the company died already.
>>
>>15552854
It did better than 9, but worse than the other two numbered 3DS games and the prior spin-off with the same action gameplay style, Dual.

I think they ought to just go on hiatus for a generation again and come back with a 10 down the road. Then start pacing out the releases better for stronger longevity.
>>
Mad thanks for the webms, OP. Completely forgot how great the show looked

>>
>>15552830

>>
>>15552864
If only they were good at making those as well, because that looks like trash. They should give it to a developer who can either do good unique turn based battles, or good third person arena shooters.

Like, imagine Medarot with a gameplay similar to Virtual On, or Border Break.
>>
>>15552866
I would play the shit out of that
>>
i take it everyone dropped medabots S2 on the first episode like me (or never bothered to pick it up)?
ive never seen anyone ever post a screenshot/webm of it ever.
>>
>>15552868
I can't find webms on it, my guess is that since the studio behind season 2 wasn't the same as season 1, they didn't get all the good ass animators as well.

I remember watching it and liking it, but not as much as the first season, and I can't really remember if it also had the same bursts of amazing animation the original had.

>There was a 6 on the DS, but it wasn't numbered and 7 on 3DS totally retconned it.
For a good reason too. DS is seriously one of the most boring games I ever played, I couldn't beat it. Medarot 7 on the other hand kicks ass and is one of the better Medarot games I played.

>>15552853
I don't know what was up with the art style on DS but it looked horrendous.
>>
Isnt there a medabots 3ds game that was nip exclusive all about cute gurls and medabots?

Gameplay wise I think it was a step in the wrong direction, removing Medaforce and Medachange in favor of the combo system which I didn't really like. Plus, probably had the most un-fair final boss fight I had to deal with for a long while.

Medarot design is just bizzare. Not really bad but it feels different than the previous entries and there are almost no re-occouring medabots. If I had to compare it's like the jump from Gen1 Pokemon to Gen2 Pokemon.

Characters are really likeable and it's one of the prettier GBC games I played. It could have been a really fantastic game if it wasn't cut short. Seriously, due to budget issues or whatever the game abruptly ends and it feels like it. Imagine getting hit with the end-game dungeon when you don't even feel like you're halfway through the game.

Also had decent waifus.
>>
>>15552871

This design is nice, but a bit unbalanced. I think it would be better if the chest canon was a big shorter and the arm canons either gone or severely reduced in size to something like Metabee's. Their short height and general body plan makes those giant guns bolted onto them a bit weird looking. I still prefer the simplicity of Metabee's original design.

They have no interest in moving it and don't have enough on hand to care to drop the price yet. You are also saying this like one site means that it's full price everywhere in Japan. The god damn studio shut down after this so it definitely couldn't undo the damage from 9. It had unremarkable sales if I remember correctly and received mediocre reviews.

No one is saying it did worse than 9, but it was by no means a success or else the production company wouldn't have been dismantled.

That's not what I'm arguing, I'm saying that Girls Mission was a failure. It wasn't to the degree that Medarot 9 was but it did poorly enough that no concession was made for the publisher to be closed 3 months after release.

No one CARED about Girls mission because it didn't know what audience it wanted. It was a desperate attempt to latch onto current Idol fads that alienated the core fanbase who wanted just robots and didn't appeal to the Idol fans who just wanted girls. The game's entire claim to fame is the damage your Medarot takes made the girl get her clothes ripped off, if that doesn't show mixed up priorities I don't know what does.
>>
>>15553701
>That's not what I'm arguing, I'm saying that Girls Mission was a failure. It wasn't to the degree that Medarot 9 was but it did poorly enough that no concession was made for the publisher to be closed 3 months after release.

You're an idiot. Girls Mission is exactly the kind of game that doesn't need middle managers because it was developed by a third party. At worst Rocket Company's closure had nothing to do with Girls Mission because the production model used by Girls Mission is something Imagineer could handle on its own without keeping a publish house with an in-house studio afloat, especially after they screwed up their flagship title. And there's even less of a need for a publisher since Imagineer said they wanted to focus on mobile and digital titles over the old-school medium for dedicated consoles. You've yet to provide 0 evidence that the Girls Mission games failed and on the contrary, clearly Imagineer saw some value left in the Medarots franchise since they didn't just auction it off and that value certainly didn't come from the flagship games. You have 0 evidence and you continue to make up ridiculous requirements to declare that the games were a failure. It's time to stop. Pretty soon you're going to be saying it didn't sell on par with a AAA western title so it's a failure.
>>
>>15553716
>You've yet to provide 0 evidence that the Girls Mission games failed
You have yet to provide evidence that it succeeded, you fuck wit. Here is another online shop link to counter yours.

https://www.amazon.com/Brand-new-Medarot-Medabot-Japanese-language-Region-locked/dp/B01ABGJ2T2

Gee look at that, it fucking binned. It's even worse because this is a shrink wrapped first edition with all dlc and the art book, yet it isn't even 10 dollars more than the base game that's a year older and was a more catastrophic failure.

No one fucking bought Girls Mission, the only source I have ever found on the game's sales numbers is that it's first week it made fourth in sales numbers for Japan at a measly 20k units and then it disappeared off the top 20 list the next week. The game hardly moved any fucking copies and it came out at a lul in game releases with minimal competition for its platform. It likely didn't even reach 25k.

As much as I loved the dub, the dub strangely cuts out a bunch of scenes where the animation quality increases.

Also, there's the part where Arika and Karin are bound and gagged. They cut out one scene where you can see that for literally one second, but they leave in the scene where Phantom Renegade approaches them, in where we can see that they're tied up.

What's the point?

OP here, I started playing the GBA RPG one, any tips? I can't understand jack of the game's mechanics, the medabot Levels Up but don't get stronger, during combat it says my skill with (X) part rose, but I don't feel any difference, during combat the parts targeted are some RNG fuckery bullshit, I can't get to attack the part I want, and I die a lot because enemies go straight for the head, while my retard medabot is too busy hacking at their legs.

I'm at the part I can get a second medal, but all of them are of types I don't have medaparts compatible with.

Leveling up the medals will make them stronger and more accurate, and so will leveling up their proficiency with their relative skill. What part your Medarot aims for is usually dictated by the type of medal you use, all of the medals have different priorities which are written as their personality.

What medals do you have? Kabuto/Rokusho? Every medal is compatible with three types of parts so it shouldn't be too much of an issue to find fitting parts. From field battles you don't get the same part twice untill you get a complete set of that medarot so use that to your advantage and collect parts.

You get a second tinpet and it gets easier, keep your eyes open and press A on random objects a lot because you might find hidden medals or parts. Also, talk to NPCs since some of them could challenge you to a battle and then you can fight them over and over for their parts.

Medal compatability is by categories so if your Medal is compatible with ranged attack (I don't know what it's called in the western version) then that means both Shoot and Aim Shoot.

If you picked Kabuto then Metabee is probably going to be your main up untill the end, it's missiles are a HUGE advantage and will finish battles quickly. Missile attacks never miss unless the opponent used some sort of dodge part. Once you get a medal that has a defence/protect compatabilty you should consider having your second bot using defence parts. They have a LOT of HP and will jump in when someone attacks any of your bots and take damage instead.

Anyway, just use your brain a little in some of the fights and use terrains to your advantage.
>>
>>15554818
>the medabot Levels Up but don't get stronger
Each medapart has specific attributes, such as aim shot, berserk, support... When a medabot uses that part in combat enough times, his medal levels up in the corresponding skill. While it's technically possible to grind until your medals are proficient with everything, that would be extremely boring, so always check what skills your medal is strong at and use the right parts. This means don't equip a Melee medal with shooting parts.
Each medal also gives a Bonus when equiped with parts with the right attribute : you can check this in the medal screen. For example, the Kabuto medal gives a bonus to Shoot parts (includes both aim shot and shoot), so when equiping the metabee parts you'll see that the medal gives +4 to.. something.

>during combat the parts targeted are some RNG fuckery bullshit
When using a ranged attack, you can see which enemy will be aimed at, however if the targeted part is destroyed before the attack, then the attack will fail. With melee attacks on the other hand, you can't see which enemy is targeted, but the attack will not be canceled if the target is dead. In theory, melee moves will go for the nearest opponent at the time of attack.
On top of that, each medal has a target preference : for example, the kabuto medal will prefer to target strike medaparts, when possible.

And if you want to go even further, all medaparts have stats such as charge, radiation, rate of sucess that set them apart...

HOWEVER, while all of this may seem overwhelming, it really doesn't matter that much.
You can beat the game by just using whatever medabots look the coolest and not being a dumbass. If you're stuck, try a different strategy, and a new team composition.

>I'm at the part I can get a second medal
Where Nae gives you a medal ? Don't worry too much, her medals are all very specific to certain medaparts, and not that useful in the early game. You'll find better ones soon (if you look for them).

Keep in mind, certain attacks have certain properties.
Sure, Hammer attacks are a lot stronger than Sword attacks, but much like Gattling/Aim Shot attacks, you CANNOT dodge after using them unless your Medabot makes it back to your area.
That means that powerful attacks like lasers which have low aim will be able to hit no matter what, so be careful

Armor: health of the part, if this reaches 0, the part breaks.
Rate of Success: the higher the number, the better the chance of the action being successful (depending of certain things like enemy Evade and Medal compatibility)
Power: the strength of the ability, the higher the better. Also note that a pink circle with a blue arrow next to the number means the Medapart has Chain Reaction, which means it can continue to hit other Medaparts if it breaks a Medapart.
Amount of Uses: how many times you can use the ability in a battle. (only head parts)
Charge: how long the ability takes to be used, in other words how long your Medabot spends walking toward the center of the battle screen, lower numbers are best - abbreviated CRG.
Radiation: how long the ability takes to cool down, in other words how long your Medabot spends walking back to the side of the battle screen, lower numbers are best - abbreviated RAD.

Legs
Armor: same as the head.
Propulsion: increases the speed of CRG/RAD
Evasion: the higher the number, the better the chance of dodging an attack, if the attack can be dodged (not all can).
Defense: cuts down on damage dealt by enemies to the legs, and a higher number is best.
Proximity: influences the success of Strike, Berserk, Defend, and Heal actions; higher numbers are best.
Remoteness: influences the success of Shoot, Aim Shot, Support and Interrupt actions, and higher numbers are best.
>>

That's Girls Mission, it failed and the publisher was dissolved.
>>
>>15555909
>Each medal also gives a Bonus when equiped with parts with the right attribute
>you'll see that the medal gives +4 to.. something.

It's accuracy. If you equip your bot with random parts he'll miss half the time compared to your starter which comes with a medal and parts with the same attribute.

While it's honestly not much help you can check the manual:
https://cdn02.nintendo-europe.com/media/downloads/games_8/emanuals/game_boy_advance_8/Manual_GameBoyAdvance_MedabotsMetabee_EN.pdf

A better resource are some of the FAQs. With some help and practice the battles become much more intuitive and fun, but still the game is really cryptic about some stuff and one of the sidequests in unnecessarily convoluted and easy to screw up

My first time seeing the sanjuuro I thought it looked really dumb. After some time to think about it I think it still looks dumb.

I'm pretty interested in collecting all of the Girl's Mission exclusive preorder bonus stuff, of which there is a lot. Partly because I love to eat cute girl shit but mostly because I find the entire thing so painfully human and delightfully weird. I'm sure they'd been on the decline for a while so they hopped on the otaku nostalgia train, mixed it with fanservice and hoped for the best only to get the worst. Really bad ideas like that just speak to me. Mix that with my really loving the series pre-kilobots and kind of being super frustrated with the GBA games and it's a wonderful pot of feelings.

I already own the mini art books and they're pretty neat.

Are those redesigns or are they different models? Some just don't look like medarots.
>>
>>15561303
Considering it was the publisher's last game, it got announced pretty close to its launch, and the trying to please everyone but appealing to no-one, it's pretty obvious that this was Rocket Company's desperate attempt at keeping open. They knew closure was imminent so they rushed to make a cash grab, since robots were out and idols are in that hastily slapped together something together in order to cash in on current fads.

I can't say if it was just one last shot at making money or a final attempt to keep the studio from dissolving, but Girls Mission really feels like a desperate attempt at being relevant.
>>
>>15561898
Some of the later games have really different medarot and character designs. That's the result.
>>15561937
I wonder if it matters whether they had actually made a more thought-out experience or not. Like you say, I too thought it was trying to make itself relevant after the nearly(?) 2 decades(?) since the first game. At that point I'm not sure they could have done anything to make it really catch fire. Actually, maybe making it about young men who are a little too close to each other could have worked... or not.
>>
>>15562008
>Actually, maybe making it about young men who are a little too close to each other could have worked
That probably would have been the smarter bet honestly, betting on fujoshi is a really safe bet for increasing sales in any show I mean hell they are the reason Gundam survived it's rocky start. I don't know if aging them up or making them shota still would have been better choices, don't know what is popular with fujo outside handsome boys, but the issue is they went after idols instead because it is a bigger cash cow. They didn't stop to think they mecha fans in general usually don't care for idol stuff while idol fans fucking hate anything that isn't pandering to the Idol side, they would see the robots just as a needless distraction. They wanted idols though because not only is it more popular these days but you can make fuck tons of merchandise of the girls, which Girls Mission actually did. Idol shit is like how every studio wants a cinematic universe, because if you can do that you unlock an absurd stream of nonstop money.

The reason they chose the idols is still unclear, it's hard to say if they did this as a last ditch attempt to keep Rocket Company afloat or they did it with greedier intent and were just trying to make their own Love Live so they could pull a Sunrise. It's hard to say if this was a last attempt or the final nail in the coffin.

Probably a project they couldn't cancel. Since it was made by an outside studio there was most likely a contract making the side that breaks the contract pay a penalty.

Aren't the games in the year 2100+, or some shit? It's actually kinda funny, it feels like they stopped developing new ways to improve the life of citizens, and new groundbreaking technology like space traveling and shit, just to pour all their time and resources into making kids' toys.

Mother fucker... who dubbed this?? I mean, I've never seen the original japanese version of Medabots and I've only seen about 3 episodes of the english dub so far, but the children actually sound like they were dubbed by actual child voice actors and not old people in their mid to late 20's trying to TERRIBLY sound like preteen kids...

The adult voices are actually pretty good too. Samantha actually sounds like a tomboy. I mean, judging from how she dresses... she is a girl right? and not a trap? Please don't be a trap...

The coach, Renegade (he's the shopkeep with the same hair isn't he...), Mr. Referee, and the qt3.14 mom waifu's voices actually suit them.

The only thing that seems kind of off is Metabee talking like a black guy...

And I've heard a lot of worse dubs from more modern animes...

The kids are voiced by adult women, just that actually did a good job of voice acting unlike most dub actors.

Also Metabee's voice is the best part of the dub, it suits his personality really well and lead to some unintentional racism like his lust for watermelon.

Rather than being one entire 52 episode run, the anime was split into two season on the west. My guess is that they needed something bombastic to be the first season finale, so they decided to make the fight with Rubberobo gang and the giant Mega Emperor their season finale. And when it was time to release the second season, they just shoved the rest of the filler episodes from before the Mega-Emperor arc before the World Champioship and called it a day, effectively shitting on the order of the episodes.

I realized this when I saw the Cyandog turns into Krosserdog episode air way after Krosserdog had already debuted, and that Takoyaki girl saying she wanted to get into the world tournament, even though the Japan trio was already set.

Well, first of all, I'd make a new game
Then I'd have an anime to go with it, but it would only be about 15 minutes.

One would air specifically in Japan, and one would be made by an American company (or whoever they want to outsource to animate for them)

The Japanese one would featuring a boy character with a Kuwagata Medal, and the American one would be a girl with a Kabuto Medal. They've both ordered/won a contest/received new Medaparts, but instead receive the other's parts, so the girl would be stuck with KWG parts, and the boy KBT parts.(or to make it more simple, she would get Sagehorn and he would get Hirschkäfer)

They have their own adventures, and come close to meeting each other and/or coming across each other's events, and the different studios can choose how the characters interpret the situations, and eventually they would get new Medaparts that fit with their Medals

And based on a poll or some other metric influenced by the fans, would determine the outcome of their Robattle when they finally meet at the end, and the episode would air in both countries. But the other outcome would still be animated and sold on Blu-Rays or something like that.

As for the game, I would take advantage of online play. Perhaps you can enter one of your Medabots into different forms of combat, where you take one of your own into a team with other two players against another team, and you would be told what type of parts the others are using, so you can adjust to help your team or do whatever you feel like, and see where it goes from there.

Also 6 vs 6 or 9 vs 9 might be fun to do, after a particular Medabot is knocked out, the next on the queue is teleported in,.

Because when a dub is done well, it appeals to mass audiences more since english is a more universal language and not everyone is familiar with japanese.
