It's weird thinking back to these manga i grew up with, thinking they had amazing line work and detail page for page, like Blame! and Berserk and seeing them get made into CG anime with OK to sub-par CG, way past their time of relevance.
>>

Thanks for the blog
>>
>CG

Gross.
>>
>>15541312
Might as well kill yourself at this point right?
>>
>>15541278
Is it any good and how confused will I be if I haven't read the manga?
>>
>>15541375
you should really read the manga regardless
>>
>>15541300

It's actually pronounced "blam" (or "burammu" if you're a weeb faggot).
>>
>>15541375
You should be fine. The movie's structure is kind of similar to a Western in that Killy is a mysterious man wandering through when he comes across a village in need. The way this arc has been adapted makes it work as a standalone
>>
so this is different than that other BLAME! anime from the early~mid 00s?
>>
>>15541586
It's CG and a bit of a re-imagining of some of the story from a more human perspective, so yes.
>>
>>15541331
I bet he's really sorry for contributing
>>
rips when?
>>
>>15541278
Watched until the intro(don't have time to watch all of it now) and it was fucking great, the visuals are really really good, backgrounds, special effects, the fishermen armors look so good, everything machine looks so detailed.

But the most important thing it was really well done, I could feel the tension when the safeguard ran after them, the OST was on point and the action was very well done.

Honestly if the entire movie is like that i'm sure i'll enjoy it, it's fun that they made Killy into a pseudo-cowboy it reminds me of old western where the lone guy arrives at a town and shit ensues.
>>
Does anyone have a mega link for this?
>>
>>15542441
It's definitely more of a western than a walk the earth type deal, but the movie ends in a way that leads straight into the normal BLAME we all know with the endless expanses of empty megastructure.

For all intents and purposes the entire movie comes across as a reboot of the IP. If it does well I imagine they'll probably do more stories from the universe.

I though it was OK. I thought it did a better job than Knights of Sidonia in establishing the universe. The backgrounds looked good and the CG wasn't annoying. The first thirty minutes were slow and it's too bad they didn't write any characters, though. Hope we see a sequel.

Sanakan's theme was amazing.
I loved the movie way more than I expected, the CG and character designs initially made me very worried about how it was going to turn out but I'm happy we got a cool reimaging of the series so far after the original runs end.

>>
>>15543757
The movie's different art style/character design works surprisingly well for blame.
>>
>>15543759
The music wasn't bad but it really isn't what I'd expect from Blame.
I always felt it would be more like the Serial Experiments Lain Soundtrack full of industrial noise
>>
So the system will only respond to people with the gene.
And nobody has the gene?
I am guessing the upper-class gene holders are okay with the city expanding and don't shut it down because it benefits them somehow, and the non-gene humans are like illegal immigrants that aren't supposed to be in the city to begin with?

tl;dr it's a story of illegals trying to force their way into the country.

I liked the first half of Biomega, but once the Earth is turned into a giant space noodle, it felt like it was just dragging on at that point
>>
>>15544378
that's due to Nihei being unable to finish anything at all, it was a rushed axe job on drugs because he wanted to start work on KoS as soon as possible, which ironically enough got a rushed botchjob ending too and now he's gonna do ANOTHER series
>>
>>15544378
Found a similar problem with Abara. Nihei mangas in general tend to drag.
>>
>>15544420
That's just classic Nihei isn't it?
He's good at creating an interesting premise with good world building, but doesn't know how to do a proper conclusion

Only a few humans managed to get on the Netsphere and we don't really know what is even happening there, the Silicon Life started as a apocalyptic cult and let loose a virus that mutated people horribly, some people managed to survive the virus without becoming a silicon life thing but they lost the genes, millenia passed as the Safeguard and the Builders programming got more and more fucked with the Megastructure devouring the solar system

Anyway, the last few pages baffles me, I know the girl is the original accommodator and the man is the clone of the founder of DRF. But what does this scene mean?
>>
>>15545095
Cibo tried to enter the Netsphere without the gene and it failed spectacularly, in the internet short series we can catch a glimpse of Netsphere, it looks like a nice place before being butchered by the safeguard obviously.
Btw, is NOiSE confirmed to be the prequel of Blame!?
>>
>>15545157
Pretty much yeah, we even get to see where the GBE sword Pcell had actually came from, at least nothing they show in it contradicts what happens in Blame just expands the world, it also show that the original Safeguard were not really good guys and were planning to fuck over anyone who didn't have the money to move to the netsphere before everything went out of control for everyone

Is Killy shooting up some drugs and using knief melee is something added to this movie they were there in the manga?
>>
>>15546984
He injects some sort of drugs directly to his face early in the manga, dunno if it's the same kind like the one in movie because he doesn't need to recharge his GBE energy in the manga. Also, he goes melee from time to time like ripping limbs from safeguards and silicon lifeforms, especially when he lost his GBE during the Davinelulinvega arc and had to use salvaged weapons and his machete.
>>
Just finished the movie, the music in the credits is goat.
Anyway I'll give a shit opinion in it.
There were a lot of poor editing choices and the cuts were very rough.
The ost felt really underwheing at times and didn't mesh with the setting or do it justice.
Also I'm still annoyed the japs haven't started animating in 60fps, they're really shooting themselves in the foot there.
But it looked nice though, REALLY nice.
The particle effects were on point and the character models and animation looked like really good 2D at times.
I haven't finished the manga but I'm about halfway through so I wasn't sure if this was an adaption of the entry into toha heavy industries or something else.
The world building was handleddecently but there were a few awkwardly translated or written pieces of dialog.
It was a good story though, it's definitely friendly to those who haven't read blame! Yet.
This was a cool approach to adapting blame! I how they try other arcs in the future.

>Yeah but... what is this short? An epilogue to the Electrofisher arc? I haven't read Blame in years. I don't have a clue how this could fit in.
It's a non-canon short. There's nowhere in BLAME! that it could fit in, short of an entire new arc where Killy and Cibo part ways and then meet up again later.

>>
>>15551832
I don't understand how it's lazy either. The entire movie is a Frankenstein of two arcs. Using the one-off as a replacement end for the electrofishers makes sense since they cut out the TOHA arc entirely.

They even left a way out for a continuation because Cibo tosses a piece of herself out of the elevator car at the end, plus Sanakan's body is still around. They can easily transition straight into the TOHA arc and the Silicone Lifeform story from here with Cibo taking over the Sanakan corpse.

Well, we have the last volume of blame! Manga.
>>
I say this as a really hardcore fan of Nihei mangas and expecially Blame! That is probably my favourite manga of all.

The Movie is good on itself, it has a beginning and a conclusion, so if you don't know anything about the story you can just watch it without having to know anything prior.

The problem is for the fans that already know the story, and well, what can I say.

Good Points:
>The characters acts like they should, and are properly portrayed.
>Stunning visuals and effects
>Nice soundtrack, I really like Sanakan theme.
>As a fan, you can see some scenes from different points the manga like they were some fanservice, BUT

Bad Points
>They mixed the story events, like the moment Killy finds Cibo and regenerates, Cibo origin in general, Sanakan arrival and so on
>Sometimes you can count the FPS
>ok, you got the electrofishers "arc", and then you focus the entire thing on the humans, ok again, I guess? Where is the Toha Industries Arc? That would've worked fine as well as a conclusion for the humans and it would've been more in the spirit of the manga.
>The entire faction of silicon life is nonexistant.
>Blame! Has a story about search, for the Genes, for Purity? For whatever you want to interpret it, it's an uncommon theme. The Movie is about humans trying to survive against all odds, quite a common theme, even thou it was well done.
>Blame! Is also a manga about alienation and solitude in a nightmarish landscape, you can feel that especially in the first three chapters where Killy doesn't talk at all, he just roams and searchs. I didn't have this feeling during the movie.
>everything feels "nerfed", Killy faints after two shots of the GBE, Sanakan can stop its beam with her hands, the Safeguards doesn't transform other humans into exterminators.
>The fact that Cibo just goes away half destroyed with the others is weird.
Here is why:
Continues
>>
>>15550669
Is it me or they had big boobs.
>>
So something that was never really made clear in either the manga or this movie is how "human" the humans we see really are. The electro-fishers seem to be totally flesh and blood, but Cibo seems to be an android or at least sufficiently transhuman even as the decayed torso she's initially found as.
>>
>>15558059
>At the epilogue you cannot see Cibo, so there are two theories
>Cibo left, to catch up with Killy at some point.
>Cibo is there, but she isn't shown, maybe she's still functioning, maybe she isn't.
>The way the movie was structured makes the possibility of a sequel to be very unlikely, if you don't consider a full derailment of the plot. Because without the Toha Arc they don't get Seu DNA, and that brings to the Mcguffin later on and the fucking ending of the story.
>Why would you focus on the human characters at all?

In short, it was a commercial move to make the manga sales go up again, maybe they also wanted to give something new for the oldfags, but I think it was such a wasted opportunity for a good adaptation. Was really THAT hard make a series about Blame? We are not in 2005 anymore, series that were considered to be not adaptable are now a reality.

>>15554092
She gets "reissued" by the Governors to protect Cibo, without being able to be resurrected if she was killed.

>>15558070
There are various human species in the manga, with different heights and genes. If we want to take Silicon Life methods as "Partially valid" and deriving from the Safeguard technologies, then every single cyborg has a MINIMUM percentage of bio matter, and the download technology can recreate/reshape it as it pleases. I guess there is barely a distinction between bio and mecha parts in Blame!
>>
>>15558128
>Why would you focus on the human characters at all?
Because they are trying to appeal to larger masses and they know that they can't make a 10 hour long movie that consists of haunting silences and bizarre landscapes. Seriously, it's a damn good movie on its own but they need to make some changes, thus if there's gonna be a sequel it'll differ greatly from the manga. But I have to admit that it put too much focus on establishing the setting and the electrofishers, so Killy is not the focus of the story but rather he plays the same role like Yojimbo, Blondie, or Mad Max.
>>
>>15558059
You really need to go reread the manga because everything you're describing is only the last 10 chapters. Even your bit about the first three chapters shows how long it's been since you read the manga.

The first three volumes literally has Killy talking normally, interacting with various people, even cracking jokes here and there and taunting silicone lifeforms.
>>
>>15558740
>cracking jokes here and there
Not him, but you also need to reread the manga again.
>>
>>15558128
>series that were considered to be not adaptable are now a reality.
I don't think so, anime sales are still way down and unadaptable series will most likely just be in CG because it would be hard to make anything that's not a slideshow with their level of art detail. There are also less talented people working in the industry for less money and for much longer, too.

Netflix can save the western television industry and provide a way for big and small film makers to expand and do things traditional Kikewood studios won't let them. It can't save anime because the Japanese are too stubborn to change and don't want to change the way they work or make anime because that's just their culture. Changing would be admitting that everything is NOT okay in Japan, which it really isn't, but no one wants to bring that up.

Just think of JoJo. Some years ago the very idea of it getting an adaptation was pure sci-fi, now we are wondering if part 5 will get its turn, but it's more a matter of when than if.

>3 Chapters
>3 volumes
anon, what?
in the first 3 chapters is just walking and shooting, and Killy just says TWO sentences and explores stuff.

I never seen Killy making jokes, unless you count "I blow up your baby creating facility" as a joke, a really practical one.

Also, the search theme is ALWAYS present, that isn't something that came up later.

Why is it always Polygon Pictures for Netflix? This is getting tiring.

One of the benefits of the choppy CG animation is that it made the movements of the more obviously mechanical characters (Cibo, Sanakan, the Safeguards) kind of unsettling and weird.

The downside is that this also applies to Killy and the humans.

From Italy, 1.5 years ago, came the solution to the question of the end of the plot of Abara. I'm guessing /m/ doesn't keep up too much with /a/'s crap, since it has been known since then. It is:

The ABARA world obviously isn't on Earth. Actually isn't even a planet, but a kind of massive ship. The Gousa Mausoleum are human inventions, which inadvertently connected the human world with another dimension, and also protects against the manifestations. However, with its in-story destruction, the protective field is destroyed, and Denji and Nayuta are thrown outside of it. Tadohomi and Sakijima have likely arrived in another world.

Nihei says "This was ten years ago. I don't remember a lot of it. Makes me cringe reading back. If I had a chance, I'd punch my 2005 self." about five times.

To >>15545114 specifically: Blame had an end, you fuck. See pic.

The most significant thing to note about Nihei's major works herein is that Biomega is the only one of them with an ending which remains poorly-explained. He has never bothered to significantly elaborate on the second half of the series; presumably, because it was rushed/mistaken.

If the CG wasn't choppy the characters would look too plastic and floaty

>video games
A lot of Nihei's works seem like they would work better as a video game than anime, to be honest
>>
>>15561988
I rermember and even understood Abara, I jusst didn't reember the details, I also think that Biomega didn't really leave too much to be explained outside of that dude that sort of disappears/goes invinisible

Blame's ending was incredible.

One hundred percent agreement here. I mean, I basically liked the movie - because hey, I love BLAME!, so more of it is a good thing as far as I'm concerned - but I guess it felt like it was trying too hard to be accessible, or something.

Those two points you made in particular were what hit me the hardest - it just seemed to lack too much of what makes BLAME! great for me.

Still, I'll probably watch it again some time soon, and it was basically *okay* but not really more than that, sadly.

If you look just at Killy, it achieves the feeling of alienation quite well. His slow speech, his reluctance to talk, even just how damn tired he sounds.

The issue is the added focus on the Electro-Fishers, who do talk a lot.
