Honestly had both Amuro and Chan survived the second Neo Zeon war they probably would've gotten together. As much as people like to cite the 0079 novelization for his relationship with Sayla, it simply didn't happen in the actual show, and I was never sold on Beltorchika. That girl was an obvious anchor that Amuro was using to avoid going back to space, and I'm pretty sure Quattro knew it too.

But he and Chan seemed to be old friends by the time Char decided to drop Axis, and they got along rather well throughout the movie.

It was in the original manga. 'Course, in the manga Amuro also dies.

For the TV version, it worked out because it allowed Amuro to have a new main girl in each part of the Charmuro trilogy. This is good because Japanese audiences don't like fapping with the same old rag which is why they always rotate out the role of main girl.

They also replaced Bright in Unicorn because the voice actor died. I think if it's because of contractual reasons or just unavailability then they don't replace the actress or actors, but if they're ill and (in)voluntarily taking a break (Hosoya Yoshimasa for example), or if they die then they do get replaced.
I recall the coach in Haikyuu passed away while they were recording, so for the last half of the season or so they had someone else come in and voice him.

I didn't remember that she didn't give it to him. I've only read the novelizations through once, so I had to go back and look.

Amuro, Kai, and Hayato are in the pilot ready room.
One of the other pilots got killed in the previous action, and Amuro is thinking about that.
They are all getting ready for the attack on A Baoa Qu, which has them all nervous because it's going to be a proper big battle.
Kai wonders if the pilot who died (someone named Kria) had an amulet (the pubic hair token.)
Kai himself has one that he shows to them, then says he'll never tell who gave it to him.
Kai asks Amuro if Sayla has given him one, and she hasn't.
Kai and Hayato both think this is bullshit, because even though it's a superstition they feel they need all the help they can get considering their situation.
Kai, because he is Kai, calls the bridge and convinces Brite to send Sayla down to them in the pilot's briefing room.
Kai and Hayato bully Amuro into asking Sayla for the amulet.
Amuro is kind of wishy washy about the whole thing, implying to Sayla that it's not because he wants it (he does) but it's because of Kai and Hayato being superstitious.
Sayla thinks this is bullshit, and it comes across to me that she's miffed that Amuro's not asking for himself, but that's my own interpretation (Sayla's inner opinion is not given in the scene.)
Sayla tells him that if it's important to them then Amuro can just lie about it.
Amuro then lies about it, telling Kai and Hayato that Sayla did give him one but he promised her not to show it to anyone.
Kai believes him, thinking that Amuro won't show anyone because Amuro is actually in love with Sayla.

And then Amuro gets killed by a grunt piloting a Rik Dom named Leroy. But Hayato is also killed, so the effectiveness of pubic hairs in stopping beam weapons is questionable.
