What's the best control interface?

Do you prefer physical interface (hands on control sticks) or mental interfaces (actually plugging the pilot's body into the mech)

Why not both?

I like an interface where I can stick my penis in if you know what I mean.

Has that been done before?

NGE had something like that, right?

IBO's AV system was exactly that.

Either a partial neuro-input combined with mechanical controls, or mechanical controls combined with AI assistance.

Neural link or complete AI seems more likely in the long run, but to me it's just not the same unless there is a guy in the cockpit working controls.

No, because the Eva "control sticks" were placebo. The control was all mental and the sticks were just there for the pilots to hold onto.
>>
>>15502928

Wait, so whenever there was a scene of the pilots tugging on the sticks, it would have done nothing anyways, and not just because berserk Eva/Angel interference/etc. ?

>>
>>15502805
You can have mental control without plugging in, that is essentially what Psycommu is.
>>
>>15502805
Honestly? Gamepads. Or at least something similar.

It never really made much sense to me that a multi-limbed vehicle could be controlled with two joysticks and some pedals. But if the control system was set up like a video game, that'd probably do it. I suppose the joysticks and pedals could be for fine control, but there never seems to be any kind of input for the fingers.

Also any system that traces pilot movement, whether partially or 1:1, that's good.

Maximum tacticool, claustrophobic cockpit. Like Gosbuster mechs

Why does her helmet have holes in it

Why does a OYW Zeonic suit have a linear cockpit

I always figured Mobile Suits were controlled by a shit ton of movement and context-sensitive macros and the pilots only gave it a suggestion of what they want to do, kind of like how modern airplanes operate
>>
>>15504846
Just because she's looking at Zakus doesn't necessarily mean she's piloting one.
>>
While I most certainly love myself mental interfaces such as the Mobile Trace System, I do have to concede on the practicality of physical interfaces.

I hear Getters work on a combination of both, however.
>>
>>15504892

Almost everything designed for Newtypes has some manner of cerebral interface, even if just wirelessly. The Unicorn's NT-D system has a direct-contact neural interface, as well.

I prefer an unusual type, where the pilot is either a cyborg or wears power armor that has direct connection ports with the cockpit

Only ones I can think of are GaoFighGar/Phantom Gao and original Jeeg
>>
>>15509739

Macross' EX Gear is exactly that.
>>

>Why does her helmet have holes in it
Miku, as well as all the other Vocaloids as far as I can tell, is a robot. Breathing isn't really a thing for her.

>>15504867
I'm surprised the franchise never made a commentary on that. Maybe that was the hair up Treize's ass. Warfare had already become gamified, and now people want to have CPU matches? Fuck that.
>>
>>15502805

Mouse and keyboard, be accurate as fuck compared to shitty control sticks and mental shit.....
>>
>>15502820
Unicorn switches back and forth. In Unicorn Mode its a normal "jet-like" scheme, then when it goes to NT-D, its a mental interface.

>>
>>15504867

They are. First Gundam mentions it.
>>
>>15504867
The anon who replied is right.
In the original MSG there's a scene early on where amuro is programming the Gundam's movements to match up to Char's.
From what I inferred in that scene mobile suits have preprogrammed "animations" that they use when fighting, walking, etc.
So like in a videogame the pilot really just had to memorize a set of movements and probably can combine certain movements to create improvised actions.
When they combine movements I guess the computer makes up for any minimal corrections.
>>
>>15511879
Also wanted to add that if this theory is true then it explains any instance of reused footage in most mecha fights.
>>
>>15511879
The Gundam's pretty special considering the learning computer can learn to even control the Gundam entirely on its own according to side material contained enough data on Amuro's style of movement that Jupiter virtually recreated him from the Gundam's data.

Just because Amuro did it on the Gundam doesn't mean all MS work that way, and it's possible he wasn't programming fixed motions into it so much as he was teaching it to walk a certain way.
>>
>>15511889
The gms were based off the gindam so I assume anything in their lineage used some form of the system until more advanced stuff came around.
I'm fairly certain SEED and early 00 used something similar as well because seed had Kira rely on OS programming and 00 had graham share his combat data so others could perform the Graham special iirc.

The biosensor and psycommu/psycoframe already did that ages before Eva or IBO.

Speaking of mental interfaces no one ever mentions the reason why the bio-computer can send sensory info straight into a pilot's brain is because the damn thing is modeled after the human brain and it works in the same way that a biological brain thinks and feels. According to Gundamofficial anyway. Why the hell didn't they develop this tech more and create android MS? These motherfuckers in UC had super advanced AI up the ass and came just short of creating cybernetic life. They kinda did if you take Sentinel seriously, though ALICE ended up vaporizing in the atmosphere.

???
>>

I'd pilot that Miku

On topic though, I prefer controls; as shit as SEED is, the parts where Kira was hammering on the keyboard to manipulate and move the Strike were more interesting than Banana using his fee fees to do similar things
