I'm sure someone will get around to it unless they go do metal heroes stuff first. Kamen Rider and Super Sentai are getting much closer to completion.

True, very true.

I have the raws downloaded, I just want to understand what's going on. lol

I'm not gonna let a little thing like language barrier get in my way, but it would be nice. Captions for the show would probably help immensely.

Well, Big Nova did just release more Dengeki Strada-5 just a few minutes ago if you want some super obscure stuff.

It's very different from what the typical western tokusatsu fan is used to as it's neither a henshin hero or kaiju show. It was a supernatural mystery show produced a couple of years before that was even a thing in America.

Inazuman Flash is one of the best toku of the 70s. Period.

Too bad US don't know Cybercop. It was a fucking great show, much more adult than Toei's sentais.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqR0sLs6Soo

Incredible no fansub claimed this show...

>>15497220
Watched both the white version (first lionmaru) and the orange one (second lionmaru). Despite some old style and confuse production (same actor and same hero, but different shows without any link), I like them - specially both endings, hardcore as fuck.

Basically a western in Japanese Meiji style.

>>15497921
It's from Takara Tommy, not Toei or Toho. Pre-Tomica Heroes show, it's a bit different than Sentais.

In THIS CASE, I couldn't disagree with you more.

Cybercop became a cult among Metal fans because Toho have eliminated all sort of Toei's elements (no poses, no rollcall, no red-blue-green names, no mechs, no kids/teenagers as MCs) and included original details (new transformation, new weapons system, use of only 1 superpower). And you even got romance with adult background, with drama and even deaths to push it further.

Compare it to Toei Sentai's format is illogical and see an 88's production with 2017's capeshit eyes is wrong. Almost 30 years of difference.

>>15498335
>I like to think that I enjoyed Kikaider for the most part, but damn if Mitsuko and Masaru didn't sometimes make me wish this was the canon ending:
I think I didn't express myself clearly. Both shows are good, but I think Metalder aged better (specially the MC's suit).
>>
>>15498676
I think that anon means "adult" in the sense that it's got blood and tits all over it and not themes that are typically overlooked in shows aimed at children.

> I think I didn't express myself clearly. Both shows are good, but I think Metalder aged better (specially the MC's suit).

I didn't misunderstand you. I was just putting in my personal opinion of what I felt made Kikaider a little hard to watch at times.

I can't say anything about Metalder's characters since I barely remember anything about the show. It's due for a rewatch once I knock out a few more shows.

As for the suits...I think the comparison would be fairer if the Metalder suit was more contemporary to Kikaider. However, the fact is, Metalder was made sixteen years later when the technique for making suits was more refined and Japan had access to better materials.
>>
>>15498004
Just a thought, should the Hakaider movie be on here?
>>
>>15498783
No.
>>
>>15497921
It's great. Full of humor with much of it poking fun at itself and the entire genre, but serious when it needs to be. Only flaw is the every episode a new toy thing.
>>
>>15496582
At this stage, I can only see MFC doing it, and even then only after they run out of Sentai and MH stuff they feel like doing. Failing that, there is Big Nova Subs, but they are doing Strada 5, so.

>>15497028
Mr. Asmodeus does not fuck around. He's one of the few toku villains to frequently kill people who fail him.

>>15498924
>At this stage, I can only see MFC doing it, and even then only after they run out of Sentai and MH stuff they feel like doing. Failing that, there is Big Nova Subs, but they are doing Strada 5, so.

I think the only option to get it done any sooner, is if somebody paid out of pocket for translations.

>Mr. Asmodeus does not fuck around. He's one of the few toku villains to frequently kill people who fail him.

That seems like kind of a waste to me. I mean, the woman in the second episode failed by only a hair's breadth. Still, who am I to question the guy that bought the rifle that killed JFK?
>>
>>15498783
Probably. Metalder is a Kikaider remake, so Kikaider and Robot Detective might as well be grandfathered in.
>>
>>15499068
Honestly, I think it'd be a better idea just to make an "Other Toku" chart rather than try to add in more shows that aren't related at all except in premise, style, or shared actors.

Possibly. One would probably need to have lofty funds though, given how slow MBE is at times with being able to pay their translator. Meanwhile, Bad Apple Subs seemed stable enough before their owner did his rage quit.

>>15500143
At the same the movie came out and up to the time it got a Blu-Ray release, they claimed that a sequel was in production. Considering the low box office though, I guess it was just a last ditch attempt at marketing to make people pick up the Blu-Ray. Obviously it didn't work.
>>
>>15500074
That depends on the rates, which tends to differ from translator to translator. I assume that for translations of text it's per line of dialogue rather than per hour though.

Probably not since Inazuman Flash aired in 1974, some nine years before the publication of Teito Monogatari.

The intention was probably more along the lines of "demonic looking SS officer." Heck, his name is Führer Geisel.

Tokusatsu is a medium concerned with special effects.
If the effects are outdated / bad then it has fundamentally failed at its task.
Take for example the big monster movies. The original Godzilla and Kong are incredibly dated and is not a very good entrance point. Kong 2005 or Final Wars are both infinitely better movies and entrance points than the originals. I'll get shit for this, but it's what I firmly believe. the old movies, and old movies in general, are too formulaic, dull and dated. And yes I'm from /krg/ and fuck you guys making it sound like a bad thing. I feel like /krg/ is the only fandom that doesn't suck the cock of something because it's ancient.
>>

>If the effects are outdated / bad then it has fundamentally failed at its task.
Everything fucking ages and becomes outdated, what the fuck kind of goldfish logic is that?
CGI is getting better by the fucking miles every day. So are Kuuga and Agito bad now?
What about game play for video games? Is Half-Life outdated? Portal? Mario? Fucking Tetris?
What about music? Is Queen or the fucking Beatles outdated because they sound old?
What about old Shakespearean plays with iambic pentameter? Are they of a lower quality
What about fucking colors? Colors fucking fade, so are all old paintings shit now?

>I'll get shit for this, but it's what I firmly believe.
Good for you for having a belief and die on the hill for it, and you bet your ass you will catch shit, because it's a retarded belief.

>I feel like /krg/ is the only fandom that doesn't suck the cock of something because it's ancient.
Nobody fellate the old stuff because it's old. People like the stuff because they are GOOD, they just happen to be old.
If you are gonna sit there and tell me Ghost is better than Ryuki or Blade, I can't and won't say anything about it because obviously you are so skewed in your brain against "LE OLD THINGS" you can't fucking differentiate quality aside from which year number is bigger.

I can't wait to see what happens in a decade when all the stuff you like becomes old. Will you chase after the new product and forsake the ones you swear by today? Or will you become one of us "oldie cocksuckers"? Or maybe you will forget toku altogether and chase after the next passe trend hope they will become hip again?

Go to your bathroom and eat some soap to wash all that shit taste out of your mouth. After that go get a dictionary and read the definite of the word "classic". Then go to >>>/his/ and ask them why they enjoy talking and shitposting about history. After that I hope you have an epiphany about how we came to be with our lives. And then you should kill yourself.

> I feel like /krg/ is the only fandom that doesn't suck the cock of something because it's ancient.
This isn't even true either. "/krg/ hates showa" is a meme that everyone's tired of regurgitating the same shit every time people like you randomly bring it up.
>>
>>15519845
The original Godzilla holds up fine, it's also markedly different from the movie you're comparing it to altogether. The comparison is sorta dumb to be honest, I dunno if you couldn't think of another old tokusatsu for your point or what (the films that directly followed the original might better fit what you're trying to say even)
>>
>>15519910
I'm not one to forgive tv, movies or games for limitations due to their age, either, and it infuriates me when I see the original super mario on best game lists when objectively speaking most games in the past 30 years or so are just objsecitvely more mechanically complexed, polished, have more content, and have better video and audio.
>>
>>15519910
All the things you described ARE outdated. There's a reason older people are mocked for maintaining those things are good.
Also, Ryuki and Blade aren't that old. You wouldn't be so fast to say the original Rider or others from the 70's are better than Ghost would you?
>>
>>15519845
>and old movies in general, are too formulaic
Don't be a dumbass. The movie industry as we currently know it is built on directors rehashing the shit out of older movies and producing inferior products, there's no way you don't know that unless you've been living under a rock for the past decade. Movies in general are undeniably more formulaic than ever now than they were back during whatever your definition of "old" is.

Keep your argument solely within the realm of special effects atleast.
>>
>>15519917
fuck off /krg/
>>
>>15519931
Yet movies are far better now then they were in the 90's, 80's and before. Better effects, better and more diverse casts, great merchandising, actual relevance to people of this generation. Getting stuck in the past doesn't mean the movies you grew up with were good.

Any sane man would say that. Something would have to be truly abysmal to be worse than Ghost. A bad show is a bad show, age is not a factor. Ghost is brand new and it's bad right now.

Ryukendo and the Tomica series are filled with outright crazy and fun shit but we'll probably never get to know that because >TV-Nihon. Good thing Big Nova Subs and Sailor Otaku fill that niche.

SailorOtaku is objectively one of the best subbers period.

I don't know what you're talking about, anon. All the current active groups have subbed or are subbing series that aren't sentai, rider, ultraman, or garo. Well, except Excite but they're new and specifically formed for the current ongoing rider. Well, it's the start of Miyashita's long, hard fall from grace and dark age of MH: at first it was fairly grounded and gritty, but the kids were put off by the show's tone. As a result, the show steadily got retooled so hard that it transitioned into a more standard toku hero show. The biggest sign of this is a character that exists only as a plot device to help the heroes.

>>15541556
It would be cool if Tsuburaya could put out a non-Ultra series in general, to be honest.
>>
>>15542706
Unfortunately, the fanbase will prevent that. Even back in the day, any new original IPs either didn't last long before turning into another Ultraman-esque show, or they were Ultraman-like to start with and still had a short life. Not even the Mirrorman reboot amounted to any new franchises.

Hell, Silver Kamen had only the staff of Ultra Seven in common and otherwise wasn't a Tsuburaya production, and that still managed to get turned into an Ultraman clone.
>>
>>15541470
At least there's still Janperson, that is a modern reinterpretation of Robot Detective anyways. Much more episodes to work with, and it has its own distinct characters that give it its own identity.
