Sei scratchuilt an entire miniature frame and had to modify the armor to fit around it. Epyon guy modified the surface details and painted it green (there might have been more "under the hood" but what and how much we'll never know).

Based on what we were shown the star build strike had a lot more skill and work put into it, it just wasn't as unique or imaginitive in appearance.

Flashy and more creative concept and exterior does not necessarily mean the builder was more talented or skilled than the other.

The base Star Build Reiji uses in episode 1 is unlikely to be up to that standard. Not to mention he used several units, including ones that Seiji didn't have a hand in, like a Ball during the course of the show and still performed well in them.

Apparantly this guy was one of the pilots that helped push back Axis. It's stated in the manual for the Stark Jegan hg gunpla, though, so take it with a grain of salt.

I don't even know if any of the pilots involved survived the Axis Shock; the only two named ones died with it, so what the fuck do I know.

There's only one pilot shown dying in the Axis Shock, and that's a Geara Doga pilot. The rest are pushed back by the pixie dust, and a good few are shown watching it happen from a distance after being pushed away.

there is not a single frame of that where the beam saber is hitting an i-field. every single visual cue from that fight points to the sudden force of the thrusters being used to make the Jegan stop movement and cross its arms in defense. probably some physics autismo will get pissed off but that's clearly what happened. somehow the kshatriya was able to blast those thrusters without actually moving backwards.

If you had told me the Epyon was the main character - judging from this scene I would believe it.

The worst asspull in the history of build fighters was a fight between Tryon 3 and team TryFaggots. More precisely, it was the moment near the end when they were caught in that barrier before Tryon's final attack, couldn't move, got hit and poof suddenly winning gundam put up a barrier of it's own. One of the worst moments in gundam history.

What the Graham Special proved wasn't skill at dodging, it was fortitude and recklessness/courage. Flags weren't designed to be transformed mid-air, so him doing that showed that he was both insane enough to try it and hardy enough to withstand the act of doing it - not that he had, or needed a particularly high skill at dodging to do so. Lots of other things Graham did pointed to him having skill at fighting, dodging and flying, but that wasn't one of them.

Putting aside that she was never a main villain, only a named antagonist, the guy didn't actually come close to killing her. No more than random mooks whose shots were close to Amuro before he dodged them nearly killed Amuro. Or really, any character who ever fought in melee ever. She fought the guy on his terms with beam sabers despite being at a disadvantage in melee due to her unit's bulk, then beat him after a few strikes. Or do you somehow think she didn't know about the thruster wash/i-field effect that she used to? That she just happened to discover it at a fortuitous time? She didn't even use several weapons she could have used to kill the guy much faster, like the mega particle guns on the chest, or the ones mounted in each binder.

The show wanted to have an exciting fight with her where there was the illusion she was in danger and the nameless character could have killed her, which required holding back on the unit using all it's weapons. Nothing more. I don't need a backstory for every pilot who ever does a cool thing. He did a cool thing and the fight was cool because of it. That's enough.

I don't particularly care for Red Letter Media, but I wanted to listen to that podcast just to hear them presumably discuss the tendency of franchises to wallow in backstory for every minor character ever out of curiosity and I can't make it past 3 minutes of that. Their smug ironic tone while praising Sony and films in a way that is presumably supposed to be irony got on my nerves almost immediately, as did all the jokes supposed to be poking fun at themselves and podcasting. Gimmicks are the absolute bane of reviews, and frankly, podcasting as a whole. Using a gimmick to make fun of gimmicks isn't any better.

So, here is the part where it gets fucked.

Its clearly the thrusters firing, because its the same lightshow as what happens when the kshatriya decellerrates earlier in the fight. But in order to perform the bloom effects we see, the kshatriya is firing its thrusters in opposing directions. There is even visibly a darker, bloomless area in the middle, so we know she isn't just thrusting straight back (because that would have not created that darker middle area, AND it would have simply melted the Jegan like a blowtorch anyway).

While the kshatriya would have moved back slightly from this thrust, its mostly cancelling out its own action wastefully. There is heat, but since the thrusters are angled away from the Jegan there would be no force.

Basically, whoever did that fight doesn't understand that space is a vacuum. In a not fucking stupid physics engine, that move ends with the kshatriya doing the lightshow and immediately dying because it does nothing to protect itself from the Jegan's charge and, in fact, renders itself relatively stationary and prevents itself from dodging or performing any of a dozen other defensive maneuvers that would have accomplished something instead.

This fight brought to you by the same guys who think a beam saber will support itself if you stick it into the ground, apparently.
