Does anyone else REALLY like Gaiking LOD? The animation is

Love letter to 70s SR shows done right, right down to the cheesy ending song with children background singers.

It was alright, it was a little hard to get into at first. It's obviously a kid's show first and foremost. I thought that its biggest problem was the fluctuating quality of its animation - when it's good it's great, when it's bad it's fucking woeful.

People say this but I don't see it. It didn't come across much as a kid show, especially with such a crazy bitch like Proist.

Shows like Gyrozetter, TTGL and GaoGaiGar came across way more childish in my opinion.

Proist was the worst thing about it
She was supposed to be enjoyably over the top, but they forgot the enjoyable part. I think the problem was her screechy voice

Yeah it was decent.

I think it would have been a lot better if it was half the length it was, since a lot of it is daiku maryu meandering around, and plus it might have helped with the animation too.

That said when it's good IT's REALLY GOOD, with some great robot designs and music too.

They did what they could. Even in its current form, they never got past the time skip at the end. It's a miracle that the show even got off the ground, since it had to be hastily pre-empted after Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo's sudden cancellation (which used to occupy the time slot LoDM was planned to be on).

There's a rumor that the staff didn't even get paid and literally worked for free on it. The show had 0 popularity during its airing. No one paid attention.

The one thing I kind of disliked about the show was that the opening theme was used far too much for battle scenes... Which ruined the really epic scenes that would benefit the most from the opening theme.

Like the First Face open moment. Great moment, and the opening theme went great with it... But by then the opening had been used numerous times in battles and it kind of took away from the scene... Especially afterwards when it was used even more.

Still, I thought it was a pretty fun series with a few pretty great moments.

Original Darius was a better villain.

I loved it, the action was generally great, the story surprised me a few times, ZA GUREATO was fucking sick, and the last battle was satisfying.

I especially liked how the plot was about them moving through Darius to attack, rather than staying at a base and defending it. There was an overall feeling of progression even during MOTW episodes.

The pink hippo bit sucked, but the rest of the show after that point were the best episodes.

I love to read stuff like this when people still demands this and that from a Saturday morning kids show which got no attention from neither sponsors and targeted viewers, got moved around from 11am to 630am, with no funding, and core staff worked for free for 2 years.

I can't believe that happened. As in I do not actually believe it's true. I don't doubt it's possible they worked for free for a few weeks at most, but two years seems impossible unless the majority of the staff had other paying jobs because most adults cannot live for 2 years on savings or the good will of others, including parents. The staff had to have been paid for most of it, or logically the show couldn't have been made.

Either way it really doesn't matter anymore now.
The assets for the show was in garbage can a some months ago when Toei cleaned up the old studio. Some of the animators got to keep a few things or 2 as souvenirs. There is nothing left at the end.

I didn't realise how much I liked this series until I realised how few mecha series Japan now makes.

Its good, its a good super robot show, but its been upgraded to once-in-a-decade good because we just don't ever get good shows anymore.
