Looks like it's down judging by the massive threads on /a/.

Thank god I got all of Turn-A downloaded before it happened, but not exactly like it matters since nyaa always tends to get it's shit fucked up a few times a year.

Yeah, it's usually never for long. When it happens there's always a ton of scaremongering and it being the 'end of anime' but it's always up after a few hours(perhaps days on a few rare occasions)

I feel marginally justified for switching over my feed scanner to TT back in '14 after that Diaz wrote that weird open letter saying "Please use Nyaa for everything and ignore our favoritism towards certain sub groups, okay?". Only marginally, though, because most of TT is just a mirror of Nyaa.

Together with BakaBT, this is a sea change. We still have (X)DCC, but I think it's time to hoarding, if not getting paranoid.

Somewhere will become the new default site for new anime uploads, there are already a few candidates, the concern is the potential lost of much of the publicly accessible archive.

Doing more in the way of distributed storage and magnet links would also help, wouldn't it? We have this problem every few years, like when Megaupload shut down, because too much shit doesn't have backups.

The database for nyaa still exists, and all those seeders still have copies. Most of what was on nyaa could already be found elsewhere. It's not as huge of a loss as the mega take down was. This is mostly just a temporary inconvenience.
>>
>>15489032
This. It's hopeful that Nyaa can be revived, in one form or another.
>>
>>15488922
Mega is certainly not the best place to hold this stuff. I've seen files disappear off mega that, by all logic, would be lower profile than even 70s crabsticks. It's good for quickly distributing files to base a seeding pool on, but if EG's usage is any indicator, it's not sustainable long-term.

I'm a traditionalist, so I think XDCC and FTP are technologies worth relying on: they have stood the test of time. Torrents are amazing when they work, but they require a critical mass of users and are evidently being targetted. Fancy new technologies like Tahoe-LAFS may be the future, but I'd be cautious before putting all my eggs in that basket.

Usenet is unkillable in the best way, but I've always been leery of using it for binaries, since most(?) providers tend to not carry binary articles older than a few years. I really like the idea of putting something on a server and having it still be there without active maintenance on my part a decade or two later (except, perhaps, simple hardware changes). I'm not sure if Usenet provides that.

I still see announcements from live-evil in rec.arts.anime.info, I should check if they release through nzb.

>>
>>15489134
I could certainly see Usenet for releases of new projects, but there would have to be an archive as well. Perhaps we don't need Johnny's-Six-Hour-Sub-Emporium's releases of Gundam Whatever, but I don't ever want to culturally lose EG's Bebop, for example, just because a dedicated reposter retired without finding a replacement.

Many channels got financially crippled by the new rules. In some cases profits have been reduced 85%. New channels have to get manually approved before monetization is allowed and if they find your content is inappropriate/violates copyright, they'll take you down.

in addition you have to reach over 25,000 lifetime views on your channel to even be considered for monetization

The cowardice in the anime torrent community knows no bounds. Piratebay has withstood the full force of Hollywood, the MPAA, and indeed the US government itself. Kim Dotcom was fucking raided by a swat team and brought Mega back to life. Compare this with the total cuck out done by bakabt and nyaa when threatened with small time anime company IP trolls and Eurofag bullshit, respectively.

In the grant scheme of IP, anime is fucking nothing compared to Hollywood shit in terms of legal power and money. These cucks should learn from Piratebay, but choose to run around like beheaded chickens and commit suicide.

What, it is an answer for your question. Probably not the most practical.
>>
>>15489355
It's all on Youtube and Kissanime if you're okay with streaming. There's a channel siwithc at around episode 53 or so, nothing a little searching can't fix.
>>
>>15489360
For $10-20 you have ebay, flea makets, and random workshops in China, Philippines and Brazil still make new ones for cheap. You can still buy all the components new to piece together an SNES. You'll probably spend more to ship it. Analog electronics are pretty easy to find still.

>>
>>15489464
Only if it transforms.
>>
>>15489445
Probably not, as not for commercial gain piracy is generally treated as a civil matter in the US. Companies can sue for monetary damages (Toei had Funimation sue 1000+ One Piece downloaders back in 2011), but since then a combination of joiner issues (courts haven't liked companies suing 1000+ people in a single lawsuit, instead often limiting them to 1 person) and jurisdiction issues (can't sue 1000 people in a single court unless it is the local jurisdiction for all of them) have generally made it unprofitable for companies to try and pursue civil copyright infringement after considering court fees. Instead they have opted to send DMCA letters or requests for a small "settlement" instead.

Now if you were hosting Nyaa, that might be a completely different story

YouTube's days are numbered. Corporations has it by the balls. WSJ's hit piece was super effective. Neither YouTube nor the advertisers (at least Coke, which continued to attach ads to videos despite saying it wouldn't and got called out by WSJ for it) wanted this. But WSJ continued to beat its drum and accuse the platform of enabling inappropriate content creators. The many shouldn't suffer because of the few. But oh well. Content creators are leaving by the dozens. We'll be lucky if it lasts until the end of the year. YouTube will become television for the internet. Corporations have won.

I meant in the sense that it was dominated by content creators (you). Dwanye Johnson and Stephen Colbert are now the face of YouTube? The little guy is getting the boot and Hollywood is using the platform as another means of advertising and profiting. An entire generation was growing up outside of the grasp of mainstream media and now they're seeking to correct that.
>>
>>15490179

Youtube is hard enough on full-time Youtubers. Their monetization system is so fucked that even decently sized channels are forced to rely on Patreon and constant brand deals/sponsorships just to make ends meet. A lot of the smaller guys (read: the not-Markipliers) are starting to pull out because it just isn't profitable anymore.

You're right. Youtube will soon be no better than "internet television" very soon. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the next couple of years, maybe less, Youtube Red becomes their primary platform and all the big boys move onto it, forcing their gigantic audiences to pay up or get out.
>>
>>15490214
And from that we got a new breed of snobby and elitist internet critics (Nostalgia Critic, Chris Stuckman, Red Letter Media, Jeremy Jahns, 3 Shmoees, Ben The Sage, Blockbuster Buster, IHE, etc), to some degree the corporations have a point. I can't enjoy anything anymore because most people I meet are sheep to their kind including my own sister. Fuck fair use.

Everything that was subbed got aggregated by animetosho. Most (but not all. For example, not the ID-0 subs) of the rest got aggregated by tokyotosho.

Tokyotosho is currently redirecting uploaders to cloudflare errors though. By the way, tpb is also giving cloudflare errors, though they then redirect to the torrent you want to download.

Strap in. Winter is coming this spring/summer.

Not him, and I'm against streaming animu due to the artifacting, but I use stream sites to watch shitty murican cartoons and tv shows where the quality doesn't matter.

Notice how I'm saying I "use stream sites" instead of saying I "stream". I use ublock and anti-adblock-killer to skip the ads, and then I download the file with wget to watch with mpv locally instead of watching on-site. By the way, I get the file using flashgot, though I used flash video downloader and cliget before firefox killed non-pulse audio linux support and I migrated to palemoon.

What I'm saying is, you don't need to go through all the effort you're detailing to use shitty streaming sites the way you want as long as you know what you need to do and have the tools needed to do it.

I'm not too pissed about most of the robots on there being lost, but I lost my save file for Starless and that's gonna be a bitch to read back through.

Streaming isn't actually as bad as I remember it being circa 2007, with like 380p resolutions and shit audio being the standard.
I still feel like a fucking idiot though whenever the desperation hits and i'm forced to stream, I either have to pay crunchyjew for the rights to watch their minuscule library full of shit that doesn't appeal to me or suffer through sites filled with malicious ads.

>the European Party of the People territory

Did anything ever come of the US grabbing the Mega guy by the way?

I mean, they literally invaded another sovereign country with their secret service, destroyed hundreds of terabytes of data and only found out afterwards that they didn't even have a legal case against him to begin with.

The US obviously can't even into rule of law and abucts people out of their homes and what you're mad about is european courts actually publishing an opinion on the legality of linking to illegal downloads in a publically accessible form? Shit nig, your priorities are absolutely fucked up.

What's a good archive solution, that doesn't have a chance of dying? I want to get something to archive obscure/good shows I've watched, especially so I have a backlog to watch when shit like this happens again like it inevitably will.

The obvious solution is an external HDD but I always see graphs of how likely it is for them to die every year, and I'd rather not spend money and time on archiving shit only for it to die on me when I need it

They're for DDL in animetosho though. You'll have to DDL slowly as fuck, and they'll be passworded 7zs, but if you combine flashgot with wget and it falls, you'll be able to retry from where it was, so at least there's that.

nyaa is usually kill by outside sources temporarily
this time nyaaman got scared by the dutch and killed the site himself and vanished like a hermit off of all communication channels
the only way for it to come back is to change the owner's mind, which is not as easy as bouncing back from a ddos or something similar

It would be great if they were with links or magnets, but I would be really grateful for just listing their names. I'm planning to archive as much as possible.

I'll be getting a HDD later this year and making sure I buy a reliable one - I have every Gundams series in the best quality I could find, I lost it once and I won't lose it again. The HDD will be temporary, my long-term plan is to burn it all to Blu-Ray discs, and keep 2 HDDs as back ups. Since all this is happening, I'm sure we'll come out just fine, but I'll be keeping a bunch of /m/ stuff and old favorites archived personally, I'll try to share when possible.

I have the original series (but only the episodes not subbed by the previous group) and Super-1.
