I don't know where you heard that because most of the comments I see are complaints about how Kazu was rarely used. I think people like his dandy personality and drunken fist style, what little we see of it anyway.

He does get a bit more focus in the Kameo arc but don't expect too much.

I sure can't wait for the inevitable MOETE KITA/ YOSSHA LUCKY shouting match when they meet in a crossover.

We're at episode 12, it's right about this time that the show should be changing if they figured out kids really didn't like something about the first batch of episodes. The combined mech reveal wasn't particularly bombastic so maybe they rushed that a bit. And next episode we get a new villain.

The ratings bomb will be hard for them to ignore, I think.

I honestly feel like Kyuranger might be worse than Ninninger once all is said and done really unless they wise up.

Kyu has the better setting and the plot looks like it's getting somewhere, but Ninnin has more consistent character writing.

I find it hard to root for any of the Kyurangers outside Xiao, BN, and Kotaro.

I hate to say it, but I think the folks saying they have way too many characters are right. It could have turned out better if they had a more experienced writer at the helm, but instead they gave it to a guy that had never written a full series before.

It's the character bloat. It has too many characters but all of them are too shallow.

Having 11 Rangers within 11 Episodes is just too much. What aggravates this is that is that because there are so many characters, it became really apparent which character was the "shill" meant to push toys. Gokaiger may have shilled shitty little keys harder than any other franchise in Sentai has shilled toys, but EVERYONE shilled those shitty little keys.

Meanwhile Lucky is pretty much the only character shilling Kyutamas because he gets to use them all and you know what's worse? How the scans treated other characters getting to "use" Kyutamas as a big fucking deal. Like it';s a fucking miracle that another character gets to step on Lucky's territory.

The reason Lucky grates so many people is that he has nobody to really balance him out because the cast are so under fleshed out and under developed. They're all just gimmicks and Lucky's gimmick is "the important one who is used to sell toys." So with an entire cast of one note characters you end up picking your favorite based on their gimmick. You're a furfag? You pick Garu or Xiao. You want a cute waifu? You pick Raptor or Hammy. You want an edgy badboy? You pick Sting. You love wrestling? You pick Champ. You want fun characters who actually have chemistry together? You pick Naga and Balance. Then you have gimmicks that are much harder sells. Spada and Food, Kotoro and "I'M A KID JUST LIKE THE INTENDED AUDIENCE" and Lucky "I'm the most important one." Lucky's gimmick was probably the worst one they could pick to make a character likable because who likes a character just because they're the most pushed.

On that note though, I don't think Lucky having more power-ups than everyone else is that big of a deal. What is a big deal though, is that the writer doesn't seem to understand that it's perfectly okay for him not to be involved in the plot of every episode.

At least early on before the plot shifted to the Daigo arc, Daigo was only shoving his faggy dick in people's faced during fights. Lucky's schlong finds its way into every moment of plot and promptly jizzes over everything in sight. No one gets to cum when Lucky is around.

Nah. In terms of focus, it's similar - you're pushing a character while dumping on the rest of the team, but the actual in-universe logic works much better.

I dislike something like the final battle against Basco in Gokaiger, where for that episode Basco beats all other Gokaiger, but then is randomly defeated by Marvelous by himself with no explanation.

That's just the example that's coming to mind, but randomly writing a character to be effective for no reason when it's their focus episode is very common in Sentai. When it's tied to something like a smart use of an ability like here it's fine (at least to me, obviously that doesn't seem to be a popular opinion here), but when it's just the character randomly being written as stronger it annoys me.

To me, the show took some of Eto Ranger's issues and exacerbated them. Lucky is Gao and Bakumaru mashed together (meaning that he gets more focus and screentime than they did in their own show), and the roulette gimmick gets used for a situation where this doesn't work at all.

Huh. Zyuohger vs Ninninger had character balance, and plot-wise it actually felt more like a Ninninger movie rather than shafting the old team in their goodbye. I watched it expecting nothing after the last few Vs movies, but this one was actually fun. Although I guess it's a bad thing is you disliked Ninninger.

Kind of a missed opportunity with the Kyuranger cameo though. Takaharu's kid comes from a future where the Zyuohger and Ninninger killed each other, and the history of Super Sentai ended. They should have made the Kyuranger come from the future too, which would explain why Earth was conquered there, but they're actually said to be a new Super Sentai that came into existence due to the timeline changing and that future being avoided.

The anniversary aspects are very minimal though, basically just a title sequence and then one voice only cameo in a 199-Heroes like white room sequence.

I finished Ninninger yesterday. I don't think it was that bad, actually. No I'm not baiting. I can see the complaints for sure...

Through-out the series though, I felt that Kasumi was the leader and Takaharu was just the annoying kid they let play with them because he'd bitch if they didn't let him. He wasn't AS bad as you guys put him out to be.

Kinji and Fuuka were definitely the stars of the show. Hell even the returns featured them more than the others (Kinji with Midoranger and Fuuka what with her dream and all)

It's hard to say. Kamen Rider always had the whole "creator intended for it to be darker!" pitch, while that was never true for Sentai. Even long before Amazons, Kamen Rider had stuff like Shin, ZO, The First, The Next, and now commonly has Direct to Video specials based on current or finished series that go wild with the lessened censorship.

Sentai just never had a big push in that direction. The one entry we got specifically targeting an older audience was Akibaranger, which went for comedy, rather than attempting to play things straight.

Either way, I think there would be two ways to play Sentai seriously. One would be focusing on the special team aspect - go back to the original premise of them as some special force. Basically an Amazons where the hunting unit would get to wear armor and beat the monsters by themselves. Another would be maybe too close to Rider - make them start as independent heroes that would need to ally for some reason.

Either way, considering everything I mentioned above, I'm not sure there's a fanbase to sustain something like that though.
