Do you think it holds up today? I think it is incredibly impressive when you consider that everything is practical effects and it was conceived before the actual moonlanding even took place. Reading about the extent of what went into creating this was pretty mind-blowing. Best sci-fi ever put to film, for me.
I never watched it

It's a very nice film.
But it needs to be the only source of noise since like half the movie is just background noise, so if you've got a fridge and an AC and everything whirring it takes away a lot.
I find myself watching 2010 a lot more. It works better as a thing you leave going in the background while you do stuff.
Books are better, even if the go fucking batshit towards the end.

>Books are better,
I like Arthur C Clarke a lot, but you're wrong here.
>when you trick your friends into watching a "movie" and it's 2001
they fall asleep every time. Or worse, end up annoyed or confused
It's really really hard to make a modern audience appreciate this when the special effects aren't impressive to their eyes like it was decades ago
Pretty good visually, ok plot, a must watch for every sci-fi enthusiast, just don't forget NASA help them and "was an immoral" experiment.

Can we all agree that Halman was fucking stupid?
