Because the enjoyment I get out of Getter is mostly derived from the action scenes, which the OVAs obviously perform better on due to being a visual medium. The narrative of the manga had potential, but it never moved beyond merely having potential. Perhaps Ishikawa would have finished Arc and given us some actual answers as to the nature of the Getter Rays, what happened to Benkei, what the future timeline has to do with anything, whether or not the dinosaurs can live with humans and so on, but as it stands, we have no answers. Some people think it's better that way, but I don't think wishy washy nebulous crap works when it comes to actual plot details. It only works with thematics or when trying to present some kind of psychological horror. Getter did make attempts at the latter, but they were so few and far between that I don't think that it's an effective excuse for not explaining what the main driver of the plot actually is, memorable as those moments may have been.

It's fine. A genre curiosity which came in time before Code Geass when mass-appeal mech was pretty much dead or at least had no identity.
So a Getter rip-off is at least a GETTER ripoff, which bring at least some portion of great material.
And look at that: it's became super-popular.
The only said thing about this is that actual Getter Robo is still mostly a thing for hardcore anime fans, despite being inspiration for both Eva (shut up, it is. I know about Ideon, too. Doesn't mean Getter didn't influence it) and GL.

I just don't particularly like Ishikawa bringing out new characters from nowhere and not developing them at all.
Manga Benkei had like zero character development (or anything remotely memorable about him really). Then there was that Getter priest who piloted Shin Getter-2. Getter-3 pilots from every Getter manga tend to be forgettable, aside from Musashi.

The ideas were great, but pretty much everything felt underutilized.

The GL hype died like a decade ago, the casuals who went mad for GL moved to greener pastures years ago and modern newfags wouldn't even bother to look at GL now that it is considered old.

I watch mostly mecha anime but I've never watched TTGL, and my friends who never watch mecha and have only seen TTGL, EVA, Code Geass, and maybe FMP won't stop telling me it's the best show ever and I need to watch it, but it's not very high on my list of things I want to watch because it's more derivative of other things I've already seen than anything and I'd rather check out more novel and obscure shit first

It's fucking annoying because there's really no way to say "No thanks I already saw Getter and Mazinger and a bunch of other shit so I don't feel like watching that right now" without sounding like a hipster faggot
