Well Hunters is definitely a Quakeclone with a Metroid skin, it's clear the SP was pretty much strung together out of MP assets.

Still a fun game, clearly not a good Prime though. Definitely helped to prove FPS could work on a handheld tho.

I'm finishing up my first run through Alpha Gaiden, using all the Super Robots and having taken all the Xabungle routes. I'm thinking about going through it again with a Real Robot-focused roster and taking all the GX routes. I have a few questions:

Do upgrades and/or kills carry over to the next playthrough, or does everything reset and you just start with 2 million cash?

The only reals I've played around with are Turn A, the Qubeleys, GP03, Hi-Nu, and Xabungle (if you count it as a real). I know the X and Double X have the Satellite Cannon, and V Gundam is good for Waverider Crash in the lateass stages of the game, but are there any other recommendations for a reals-only run? Should I prioritize weapon upgrades or EN/mobility/limit upgrades? I'd like to do Hard Mode again, but I wonder about doing enough damage for some of the Skill Points.

You'd be surprised how good default Soji birthday is in a no upgrade setting. Accel + Soul + Nine's Zeal + giving him a Gravity Wave Beam Antenna. Has 2 support attacks and is the only one who can hit crits with his support attack by default. Charge allows him to use his 2nd final attack that you get for a large portion of the game which isn't post movement.

Chitose's default birthday gives her Snipe yes but isn't gonna do much for the upgrade. Hell, 11/11 B was terrible since no accel.

Tobia surprisingly didn't do well in a no upgrade setting. The Crossbone Gundams don't really have any Ignore Size Modifier attacks so they didn't do much damage to L size and above. Plus was there any other melee based Gundam other than Unicorn which is already locked by Banagher? Kincade's kind of in the same boat as well honestly though he does at least have hit and away.

Amuro's terrible without that ace bonus and since attack again/second attack only triggers at 30 skill points or more, he doesn't really do much for me. Did deploy him after naming the Earth Fleet Tenku though when he got ace'd so that was good.

Didn't get Shinji's EVA-13 so he was stuck at high tier. Would definitely change to top if he got it.

Judau and ZZ aren't really impressive IMHO. By the time Judau was positioned to attack, the map's over. High Mega Cannon has a short range while its full powered version has 9 range but isn't post movement. Judau also has no accel nor hit and away so there wasn't much utility with him.

I admit I didn't use Kamille though. Could have changed next time that's for sure.

I dunno about the Aestis though. On one hand, infinite EN with the Nadesico. On the other hand, who would I even sacrifice?

Sumeragi has utility actually. 4 pilots, 3 on support with one focused on pure offense. Ptolemaios can also repair to get more levels as well. Feldt has resupply, Sumeragi has Prospect/Hope, and Mileina has Haze and Cheer (also has Love but is really irrelevant).

Ok, in about... five or six stages, I think? I'm pretty sure it's mid 20s, early in Act 2 - Linebarrel upgrades to a second version of itself with slightly better stats (1 more movement, 5 more mobility and accuracy) and a Special Dodge Type that makes it effectively completely invulnerable to anything other than a bullshit strong boss like Lu Bu or Kali. Then in Act 3 it gets another finisher that is straight up one of the strongest things you can throw out in the game.

Vardant, however, is still amazing, and with eventual 2.5x Soul and its final move (which you also get in Act 3, IIRC one stage after Linebarrel's finisher) it's one of the strongest units in the game too. At that point you also get Katou and possibly Ishigami, who are similarly bullshit.

Personally the reason why I used GranVang over VangNex was more because of the size difference between the two and my train of thought going "hmm, wouldn't have to worry too much about damage reduction if I went with GranVang which was size L compared to VangNex which was size M".

Not really impressed honestly. Kira does have hit and away I'll give you that but could barely do anything before reaching the boss and by that time, the stage was over. I even had him be one of the four people who were given Rouse (Rouse gives +10 will to adjacent allies and Rei had the Aura Protection +100 SP part so she was the Rouse duty person; she can do 3x Rouse with it).

I used Shinn a lot more than Kira honestly. Accel, Gain for early-mid levels, and spirit to trigger SEED even if SEED doesn't happen till mid game for him. Lunamaria's there for Cheer more than anything else actually. I think I only used Athrun maybe once or twice and that was because I didn't really have anyone else to use at the time. Lacus has some really decent spirit commands between her and Meyrin with Wattfield taking over for offensive duty. Though Lacus does have SP recovery by default.

That early Bronze Emblem really pays for itself. I had to rush Soji getting to 100 kills really early in the game just to get it then immediately gave that to Ruri so she would be at Attune duty since Nadesico has no post movement attacks anyway.

That still doesn't make sense banpresto wise. Gundam is saturated with main characters with unique powers such as newtype, x-rounder, SEED, Innovator and probably i'm missing one while in SRW, only the alpha archetypes and the SRX team have any unique power, pretty much every other main character being no different from a regular human (even those who are aliens)

And as said before, og1 wasn't exactly kind with the psychodrivers and there were plenty of normal humans being just as good if not better than the average og1 psychodriver and Kyosuke wasn't free of bullshit main character powers because his unit is an unique snowflake one of a kind shitwrecker only behind the grungust in punch, and that's as a solo unit because it also has its overpowered combination attack which puts its even above them and cybuster

Kyousuke is a good character, and a pretty good hero in OG1. I fail to see why so many seem displeased with him.

New attacks, one attack is much stronger in this mode, and you get a free refil of hp, and en after purging. Oh, and if you get shot down, it just turns into regular ZZ.

The only downside in that mode is the increased en costs for the HMC attacks, but since you can purge, it doesn't matter in the long run.

A lot of people doesn't seem to realize Fafner Exodus did achieve some of the highest approval and sustained viewer ratings for a series ever on Nico and other streams.

Viewer dropoff after a initial debut is really common for almost all anime series not just mecha. But Fafner Exodus had almost no dropoff at all and that pretty much means it has a very healthy following.

It's pretty much the most successful and acclaimed mecha anime in the last few years despite whatever you like to think.

In terms of the story, the cast from the previous game shows up later, and they do acknowledge the fact that there's another Kouji with Mazinger in this universe. They even mistake for their Kouji at one point, leading to some amusing exchanges:

Reals don't tend to do very well in no-upgrade games - they tend to gain more from upgrades due to the way Mobility/Armor scales, Reals usually being on a higher attack power tier meaning similar numbers with the same amount of money spent (and relatively speaking, the different of a hundred Base Power between them is much more significant when the numbers are smaller than when they're higher), Ignore Size potentially being important if the unit does not come with inherent ISP attacks (Supers don't really care about the accuracy loss because Strike is cheap and plentiful) and so on.

Plus I honestly can't quite think of an "average" Super nowadays like how regular Toeizinger tends to be the baseline - seems like Supers tend to have the gamebreaking features like multi-pilots more often than not.

Skull Heart got screwed over even worse. It took over half the game for it to get a finisher, and it's not even that strong. It doesn't get respectable damage until you get the Full Cloth, and the Tobia version is replaced by the Seabook version.

Using them, Elle, Roux, and the Puru's are fine. The Puru's have some mild dodge issues until they get their ACE, then they're set pretty well as long as their machine can dodge well. Elle isn't bad, but she lacks focus, Roux is ok.
