Loran wasn't insufferable, he was bland. As much as I disliked Turn A, the protagonist was one of the 10 or so characters who weren't annoying at all.

The most insufferable protag was Bellri. Kills Dellensen and doesn't even seem to give a shit. Casually throws his lot in with pirates who tried to kill him and his allies. Betrays his home land even though (or according to some, because) he has no understanding of the world's political landscape.

Banagher isn't really insufferable, he just has such a thin, nothing character that literally anyone in his place would be more interesting. Why did he deserve to be the protagonist? What was even driving him? Pussy?

Not only does he anguish over killing Dellensen, literally everything he does makes complete sense. After the Megafauna captured him, he persuaded them to let him help protect the ship through the means of being the only person other than Aida who can pilot the G-Self because he doesn't want the ship to be shot down with him on it as a screen for an escape attempt which fails every episode for some reason or another. He only officially joins them after Cumpa notified him of the formation and armament of the Capital Army, which is a violation of the Taboo. His government literally broke its own law for militaristic purposes.

I just wanted to point out your erroneous statement about him feeling nothing about Dellensen's death, yeah he's back to normal next episode but that's better than him spending a whole arc of 2-3 episodes crying about it, there was infinitely more going on in the show than Bellri's feelings.
