I think it's the Mazinger Bible that includes a small bit of information on a planned but cancelled early in pre-production show that would be a bit like Mazinger crossing with Macross. It was to be about a Mazinger fleet journeying through space basically. Na, we get great looks at their innards, and they're not really hollow at all. Super Alloy Z is just absolutely fucking ridiculous bullshit alloy and weighs basically nothing.

This is especially notable as Boss Borot, in the Toei show, was like 12 meters tall, but weighed like four times Mazinger's weight despite the fact that a lot of it actually is hollow - because it's mostly conventional metals.
