This was style over substance and edgy to the max, and I loved every second of it. It is the right length it didn't overstay it's welcome with how dumb it is and just is a visceral experience.
I would have preferred this version of Mazinkaiser was the 7 episode OVA and the other was a movie. The main duo had a nice red and blue oni dynamic and I would have longer to get a little more context on all the characters/conflicts but at least we get some cool fights and characters.
I hope SKL gets revisited some day because this was tons of fun.

Honestly I think SKL was just the right length, and that Mazinkaiser would have been better as a 12 episode series. Loved them both, though.

I don't read dead languages. Jokes aside, from what I've seen the manga is a bit different from the OVA and I prefer how the OVA handled things.

I agree that it's the perfect length to not overstay it's welcome, however if with more episodes it explored the characters more deeply and made the plot less bare bones I think it would have worker spectacularly. I also think Kawagoe did an amazing job and is exactly who I would trust to elaborate on SKL.

The original characters even are based on Nagai characters. Ken is basically Kabuto Kouji in appearance and personality while Ryo basically is the same but for Duke Fleed.
I liked that they snuck in Akira and Miki into the OVA. Boss being a member of the military made me lose my shit.

Basically, Ken used to be a prison in-mate until he was proposed to be a guinea pig for the Kaiser experiment. That's where he met Ryo.

While they take cues from other Nagai characters, they are still different characters.
When I say the rest are based on Nagai characters, I meant characters like Aira Mu, Kiba, Himiko, the various forms of Cutie Honey which are based on VJ characters like Slum Queen etc.
Also, Scarlet and Yuuki seem to be totally different characters and they don't take much visual cues from any Go Nagai characters that I know of.
