People get stuck on a character dying a pointless death or a character making a decision that a normal person wouldn't make instead of asking themselves "why did thus character die a pointless death, what flaw in their mindset lead to it? What could I learn from it?" and "what circumstances lead this character to become abnormal?". Its one of those shows that I think is much more entertaining if you come at it from that sort of mindset.

Its not multi layered though considering how blatant their intentions with it is. Its pretty much sent spelled out that "Tekkadan's sacrifice made the future everyone is experiencing possible" that's far from slapping them in the face because they were never in it for the glory or recognition that's why it kinda sucks because they could have built on a tragedy but saying that nothing came about from their actions and things remained the same hence why I don't see the point of making Rustal live other than failing to establish a gray negative since his character didn't have any sort of impact to Tekkadan so what he does with GH doesn't effect them and given the non-reactions of Eugene and Kudelia to seeing Rustal is more than enough proof of that. Only Ride's seen have any sort of thematic weight to the negative consequences of Tekkadan's actions.

That ending was bad. Not because the villains won. There have been plenty of endings where the antagonist wins and it's still a good ending. It was bad because it was so poorly written. The main gundam character Mika was a fucking bore. Orga was cool, but his death happened so late there was no time to grieve and let the characters grow because of it. What was the point of mcgills getting a new gundam when it's freedom .5 with no decent specs? He went though all that planning for nothing. He became a waste of a character. The death of biscuit made no sizable difference in season 2. This gundam felt like it was written by a shoujo manga artist with homo-erotic obsessions and no idea how to write plot and just went the slice of life route. Granted, I had more fun with this than any gundam lately aside from unicorn, but this show had such interesting potential but was fucked thanks to a bad writer.

Tekkadan got funded by the Japanophile Jovian Space Mob, whose mechanics were ancient giant robot buffs (but apparently not to the point that they could recognize a Pluma, spawn of the giant metal robot armors that the ancient giant robots fought against).

Before that they somehow managed to find enough spare parts and paint to keep everything looking completely symmetrical. I feel like the Astaroth manga asymmetric designs were what the Barbatos and Graze Kai should have looked like early on; mishmashed armor and weapons.

I think they missed a golden opportunity with IBO and its mechanical designs. Tekkadan was supposed to be a bunch of scrappy kids in S1. Having a scene where they surprise the hell out of an opponent by doing something like strapping spare thrusters onto their eldritch space jalopy would be in character.
