**MELEE GROUP BUILD**

Build/paint a robot with a loadout focused on melee combat! Anything from shields to swords to lances to axes to bare fists is fair game. There's no room for ranged weaponry here, however, so anything resembling a rifle, Rocket Launcher, cannon, pistol, or any other ranged weapon is a no-go (Small ranged weapons that are built into the kit itself like head vulcans are ok, however).

More clarification here:
>If the body part has a built-in ranged weapon (head/chest vulcans, claw beams, etc), then that's fine. If it's a separate part like the Alex's arm vulcans it's best to leave those off.
>Melee weapons with in-universe ranged capabilities (Like the Kimaris's lance or the Gyan's shield) are fair game too.
>Any scale and any brand is fair game here, you're not limited to just using Gundams this time around.

What scale decals should I get for nazi bot? Went to the local shop today looking for decals. Guy said he had some from broken models he could dig out for me, and to come back on the weekend. Ive never dome any military stuff before, so i dont know what their scales are like.

Figure out what color scheme you want.

Get some black acrylic spray paint, or primer, whatever colors you need in the same kind of spray paint, and some top coat.

Buy a bunch of the little alligator-clips-on-sticks things modellers tend to use, and some poster tac.

Look up gunpla spray painting tutorials on YouTube so that you understand how to spray properly.

Put all the parts on the alligator clips, using poster tac to hold them on when necessary.

Go outside.

Base coat everything with black/primer.

Wait for it to dry.

Paint to main colors on.

Wait for them to dry.

Apply any decals or weathering you want.

Apply top coat.

Just grab a cheap HG and some weapon kit (Bandai or Koto), and kit bash it with some other kits you have lying around. No reason you can't build both an MG and a small HG in the span of two months.

Let's say you're painting an RX-78 completely red. when you paint the bare plastic, that red paint will look brighter on the white plastic and darker on the blue plastic.

Primer is used not only to help paint bond to the kit, but also to give the kit an even color across the whole kit to make it easier to paint.

so a small issue with some RGs is that the armor doesn't want to stay attached, hence their reputation as grenades. Little bit of cement will fix that as long as it isn't a part you want moving much.

Exactly/hobby knives are ok but if you have a hobby store nearby (or even a hardware store) you should get some sandpaper. I know I got a set of Tamiya sandpapers that came with grits from 600 to 150, so that's a possibility

You're doing right so far. That's what I do. Just file away with a hobby knife. Once you slice them off though, use some sandpaper to smother out the surface. You can polish the plastic back up but you can also top coat with a flat finish to hide any nicks you made with the hobby knife.

Yeah vallejo primer dries super quick. 20 psi might be too high. I'd dial it back to 10-15. Anything higher and the primer builds up in the crown cap, dries, and messes up the paint flow. Also do you add thinner as well? I would add a couple drops of acrylic thinner into the mix as well.

Well then, it's assembled. Terrible discoloring aside and the lack of stickers (will do later) I'm pretty happy of how Zaku-kun came out.

First gunpla (or model in general, really) I build, don't bully too much. I had a surprising amount of fun with the kit. I kinda wonder how much I'll resist before buying an rx-78-2 to pair with him.

It looks like a good snapbuild, I see a lot of nubmarks but only really seeing a proper nub on on that left torso power line and on the top of the shield. You'll want to cut further away from the part and file it down on your next kit to keep those discolored bits from showing up.

The Thunderbolt MS designs feature covers over the joints to protect them from small bits of debris, dust, dirt, etc.

The HG models just molded it into the joints, but the katoki wanted to use actual covers for the MG. Honestly, it was pretty much the plastic bags or else rubber. And rubber sucks to work with, can't be painted either, and degrades over time.

If the covers really bother you just leave them off.

This ended up being a lot more enjoyable then I was thinking it was gonna be heading in. The only thing that really annoyed me was the lack of undergating of the gold mekki (You can see it on the shield and the knees) and some of the gates on those red glossy parts. But otherwise it looks amazing out of the box and it generally looks fantastic no matter how you poise it.
