Actually the use of CG was a deliberate choice on Matuso's part, on the basis that it's inherently more attention grabbing.

Incidentally they also made use of model deformation techniques to emphasize movement. Nothing as squish and stretch as its contemporary, Majestic Prince, but you can see its effects across individual frames. I attribute that to why I grew to love Hito's sense nerve wings, which back in the prerelease buildup looked super dumb on the design.

At the same time the mecha in Valvrave weren't always rendered in CG, there's shots where they're done handdrawn, Hito in particular is handdrawn in parts of the first episode as it leaves its cage. It's one of the things that kinda peeve me off in rewatch, it would've been better to have them consistently one or the other, and the CGI was holding up better in average quality than the drawings honestly.
