He was more advanced than the prequel era battle droids by virtue of being made 15+ years in the future with all the design benefits that implies.

This also makes him a newer design than most of the robots from the original series as well. R2-D2 may have been state of the art back in TPM, but that was actual decades ago. C3-P0 was built from parts found in a junk yard at the same time, making his chassis even older than that.

R2 and 3P0 are also noncombat machines with no need of K-2SO's capabilities to begin with.

sw droid are actually capable of being sentient, but their memories are wiped on a regular basis.

presumbly k2-so have valuable intel in his memory and the rebels don't want to wipe it.

Not really, folks ignore that the rebel alliance does use slave AIs too, and K2 was in actuallity captured and brainwashed. So if he's being sarcastic it's because he's painfully aware that nobody ever gave or gives two shits about his mental integrity.

Really being a sapient droid in Star Wars sucks ass as no one treats you as a person. Kinda makes sense considering everyone has the Force "proving" these droids aren't "alive".

R2 is also a rolling vacuum cleaner that is essentially just a GPS computer on wheels, he's not particularly impressive and is just meant to be plugged into a ship and run maintenance at times.

No more than normal, really. He can't just decide to rejoin, he's been programmed to be loyal to the rebels.

He is a great character though. Best droid.

Star Wars universe is pretty bleak man. Even the Old Republic didn't seem to give a fuck about enforcing Human Rights in the Outer Rim, where most people/Aliens seem to reside, notwithstanding Core World's ridiculous populations like Coruscant, and fucked up shit still happens there too

His movie is recent and the writers thought a snarky robot would be popular with audiences. You're reading too deeply into it.

There's an episode of Rebels where Sabine and some Mandalorian friend of hers hijack a space bus with a droid controller that's part of the console but has no motive power outside the bus itself and then at the end they blow it up. It's depressing as hell when they run out of the airlock as the droid is stood there wondering what they just did and them seconds later the whole thing explodes. Droids are treated like sentient life forms on terms of how they think in most entries, but the cast casually enslaves or destroys them with no apparent thought to how shitty it is.
