I just want the robot and character designs to be visually pleasing. I don't care if there's Katoki levels of detail or if it's gendum, I just want the designs to not be crap.

i like a good mixture of both, G-Reco was fun to watch because it went back and forth a lot and it was a refreshing change of pace from Gundams usual politics and occasional giant robot fights memo.

Both actually. Sometimes at the same time. I don't mind characters making silly faces from time to time, it lightens the mood if the overall plot is serious.
