More to the point he was never particularly close to either of them. Kamille and Judau were, like Amuro in 0079, mostly subordinates and at best his comrades, but by Char's Counterattack Bright seems to have become actual friends with Amuro and spent significant time with him (as in years), and time in peace as well as war. Him having a picture of Amuro makes sense not just as someone who saved the world and is dead, but as someone he was socially close to.

It's not like he spends the entirety of ZZ in a coma or in a childish state of mind. He recovers physically at a decent clip throughout the show, and is obviously okay mentally for a good chunk of it given that he speaks to Judau a half dozen times or more, telling him what he should be doing or why he himself fought etc. By the Dublin arc he's up and running around as well as starting to speak normally, even if only just. The ending with him running alongside Fa in obvious joy isn't a lone incident with no context or anything.

Was there a reason he would? Judau left for Jupiter at the end of ZZ and wasn't fond of the military or war to boot so there's no reason he'd want to join, and Kamille shared his views on war and the military so while he was in the Earthsphere he's unlikely to want to join either. Amuro was the only one of the three that didn't hate the military and seemed open to being a career soldier.
