They gave Kamachi some Virtual-On games to try it out and he ended up finding it really interesting and wanted to do a crossover about it, see >>15309107. The crossover novel actually sold pretty well above their expectations, so Sega is cashing in.

In an attempt to revive the thread, I'll post this site I just found that has a number of Saturn PC ports that have been updated and bugfixed to work on modern PCs. Included in this list is the original Virtual-On, so have at it if you've never had a chance to play it. You have no excuse since toasters from 2004 can run that shit easy.

There is a little but dedicated community of people from around the world that still play online matches here and there so don't feel discouraged to try. The monthly XBLA fee and the amazing skill level of some veteran players might be a barrier for some people but oh well, I tried.
