Awful good. Despite attempting to genocide the human race, you could almost feel a little respect towards his ambitions, especially after he manned up and accepted his defeat. There was almost a sense of hate-born camaraderie between him and the remaining Getter pilots in their last moments together, as Gore charges headstrong towards his demise.

And then he's unceremoniously killed for no reason by a third party. It's a terrible scene, and you can't help but feel repulsed by what's happened. There's no glory, honor, or heroics. Just a pitiful death.

Who cares? It's well written, well executed, well drawn, can ask some pretty interesting questions, and overall it's fun. It's a pretty good franchise overall and there is a reason meant series since have referenced/paid homage to it and other Ishikawa works.
