So Zeonic posted an interesting F91 interview excerpt following ANN's reviewof the movie. Interesting to see how part of the process went down...

I love this proto V2.

Man, if only there were a way to convert this recent media buzz into genuine interest in an expansion of F91 as a story
>>15294008
Sunrise is doing just that with Twilight Axis. I'm thinking they'll be revisiting it shortly.
>>15294016
Wait, really? Twilight Axis' development was started amidst media buzz?
I just wish there were some way we could show Sunrise what we want outside of buying more kits

Japan doesn't care about western buzz

>This is to dispel some of the current rumors going around about F91 following an erroneous review of the movie (with bogus claims) on the AnimeNewsNetwork website.
What did they say?

There was a thread about it last week

I'm looking for the objections right now.

ANN BTFO FINALLY
Next step is to get ANNposting banned in /m/

A niche board discussing a single review of a film more than two decades old isn't buzz in the first place.

Twilight Axis probably started because of the success of Unicorn, and Sunrise wanting to follow it up with something. Hathaway's Flash would put an abrupt halt to money milking, so it makes sense that they'd try out various series as points to follow.
Twilight Axis happens to sit in that sweet spot of following Unicorn and leading into F91, which in turn opens up the possibility of Crossbone. Which all ought to be a shitload of milking for Sunrise.
>>15295431
Hathaway's Flash wouldn't make sense anyways, since it's built off Beltorchika's Children and follows up on differences in that work than what Char's Counterattack established, like Quess and Hathaway's relationship. That, and Hathway's Flash is more than two decades old and not a popular work, so following up Unicorn with it made no commercial sense in the first place.
>>15295431
Crossbone will never fucking happen. Stop trying to believe in the delusion that a series from 1994 has a chance of getting animated.
>>15295496
I thought the nips loved Hathaway's Flash.
>>15295521
They did. It was very successful.
>>15295506
>he doesn't believe
Crossbone will happen anon, don't be a fool. You will have pirate robots and beam sails and you will like it!
>>15296227
Oh, please just stop. It's been 23 fucking years. It's not happening. Sunrise would need to correct the events of F91 first, which, spoiler alert: that isn't happening either
>>15296258
I don't believe it's going to happen either, nor do I want it to personally since I thought Crossbone was only okay and haven't bothered with any of it's sequel manga but why would they need to correct the events of F91 to animate it?
>>15293826
Thanks to Zeonic for the translation, the whole thing was mismanaged from the start
To be fair, F91 is a bad movie. I love it for its place in canon and because I'm a fan of the franchise, but take that stuff away and it's a mess.

I don't know about BTFO, this actually makes ANN's claim for production being squished seem like an "oh well shit happens" affair.
I.E. ANN says production was hastened to turn a series into a movie, whereas the interview is basically saying it was fucking shit from the beginning in planning and direction with no one really knowing if they were doing a move or a series waaay before Tomino or Bandai even got involved.
