It's shit. It tanked during its own broadcast, and we're it not for the fact that Bandai's cheap plastic toys were all the poor kids of Japan could afford it would have been consigned to a footnote in anime history. It's a thinly veiled reskin of MotW plot formulation to push a decidedly imperialist agenda with villains that might as well have sported fucking swastikas for how they were literally space nazis. On top of that, they couldn't even trust the show to stand on its own merits so they hired the character designed from the far more popular Yamato to try to fool people into watching Tomino's drivel.

It's almost unwatchable, even if you tilt the scales by placing it in the context of its time. Whatever message Gundam had, other shows were delivering better. Hell even Tomino did better when he pushed Zambot 3. The only reason we continue to suffer year after year of more of the same is because Bandai can turn anything into Gunpla and people will buy it.

0079 is garbage. Amuro is an insufferable prick who survives only because he's piloting literal plot armor against an adversary that has to be made laughably incompetent for the plot to advance at all. There's nothing 'real' about Gundam, it's space fantasy melodrama, a 30 min commercial to shill plastic. And there's been painfully little variation since then.

IBO season 2 has been by far one of the better shows of the recent decades. Constantly pointing out the shitty animation quality makes no sense because people continuously compare a show that needs to make 25 episodes a year to stuff like Thunderbolt that had 6 months for slightly more than an hour of footage. No shit IBOs animation is worse. Not even gonna start on Unicorn that stretched over years.

IBO has by far some of the best mech designs and sound design. Season 1 is absolute dog shit, but unironically claiming that season 2 is even remotely as bad, or bad in general, is just utterly delusional. Destiny, Age, Greco, Seed, hell fucking Thunderbolt has got to be one of the most overrated Gundam shows since the only thing that show has is animation, mech design, sound design, character design are all utterly fucking horrible.

The worst thing is how uncool the entire Neo-Zeon downfall was.
Glemy Toto, a literal who, can suddenly split the faction and start a Zeon civil war.
Why? Why not use Char for this? Why not make that the subject of the fucking series instead of putting it in the last 5 episodes? Why do Kamille and Fa just fuck off? Why does Bright miss the entire final battle?

Instead we got some of the worst filler in Gundam history with a boring, unremarkable cast that never really mattered again.
