Does /m/ like Metal Gear? I've played Revengence, Ground Zeroes, & the demo level of MSG as a kid. What should I play next for the most /m/ goodness? I'm thinking about playing TPP and then going onto Metal Gear 1&2 before playing MSG
Did Big Boss do nothing Wrong?

metal solid gear?

Clearly he means monosodium glutamate
>>
>>15250352
Play them all in release order. MGS1 and MGS3 are my personal favourites, and I'm almost finished with MGSV:TPP.

Revengeance however was a really great action game. Was /m/ as fuck

I literally do this every Fuckin time
Every Fuckin time I make a thread I forget to mention my subject or fuck up some acronym
Assuming im not a pirate, whats the best way to get ahold of the MSX/PS1/PS2 games nowadays?
>>
>>15250384
Revengence is a great spiritual successor to Vanquish for sure
>>
i've liked pretty much all of them.
Playing the VR Missions disc (200 training missions, challenges, and puzzles) will make you a ninja at MGS1. When you get to the part in MGS1 where you crawl through the tunnels with all the wolves, as soon as you catch up to Meryl you need to punch her and then immediately equip the cardboard box. When you find a Magazine in MGS2, equip it, go into the bathroom, and call the Colonel. Then look at the toilet in 1st Person View and call the colonel. Then look at the urinal in 1st Person view and call the colonel. When you get to the room with Ames in it, hide under the table across from the woman whose knees snap shut every time she comes on screen, tranquilize her, take a picture of her panties, and call the colonel. When you get to the part where you have to escort Emma out of the flooded strut, tranquilize her, lay down on the floor, crawl on top of her, and call Otacon.

MGS3,4, and V aren't nearly this much fun.

If you don't have a PS2 or PS3, you are SOL until the games get ported onto the system you have. If you have a PS3 or Vita you can download 2 and 3 for $15 each from the Playstation Store. They also have a bundle for PS3 which includes 2, 3, and PW for $40. These versions are available in HD.

If you have a PS2 or a backwards-compatible PS3, you can look for the Essential Collection (going for about $50 on eBay right now) which is a hardcopy bundle of a MGS1 on a PS1 disc with 2 and 3 on PS2 discs. Otherwise you're going to have to track down the game discs individually (and probably cheaper than going for the Essential Collection). Obviously these are not HD, if that makes a difference to you.

>>15250406
Revengeance somehow managed to have the most straightforward and least stupid plot. I like it especially because it's more obviously self aware, and thus has more intentional jokes, making the silly shit more palatable. With Kojima penned entries, the silliness seems out of place because ultimately there's this looming cloud of wanting to be taken dead seriously.

>"This is a serious exploration on the nature of war, its effects on soldiers, and the dangers of nuclear arms."
>"Also, here's a mission in which you have to find your ally by checking all the enemy soldiers for her distinctive butt wiggle."
You lost me, Hideo. That's fuckin' stupid.
>>
>>15252083
The HD Collection goes for dirt cheap used, no need to spend $40 on it digitally. It's also definitely worth getting the HD version of 3 over the PS2 version because it doesn't run at a silky smooth 15fps.
>>
>>15252503
>HD Collection

My mistake. I assumed that OP wanted to actually play through MGS1.
>>
>>15250406
I'm still waiting for Vanquish 2.
>>
>>15252367
That's Platinum for you; less babbling nonsense, more unpretentious crazy stuff.

That said, Ghost Babel on the GBC is pretty underrated.

Used to love it as a teen. Played the first 3 games and was hyped for 4 when it came out.

Then I grew up.
>>
>>15250399
>Assuming im not a pirate, whats the best way to get ahold of the MSX/PS1/PS2 games nowadays?

I got SoL and Snake Eater at a pawn shop. Find a good one with a lot of PS2 games and you should be able to find a copy of at least one game. 4 as well.
>>
>>15253004
I can take the silliness if it fits the tone.

Peace Walker is the same, as the silly shit seems to be much more consistent. The villain's name is Hot Colman for fucks sake! PW knows what it is, and is much better for it. Not to mention the crazy weapons you can grind for. And the fact Big Boss is MSF is basically just a frat house in the middle of the ocean.

I fucking love Peace Walker. It's what MGS should always be. Stop trying to be serious and embrace the silliness.
>>
>>15250352

Don't really care much for it, since the only particularly notable thing about it are the memes, which are nice if you're into that kind of thing.
>>
>>15253206
I think my favorite thing to do in Snake Eater is to holdup guards I've knocked to the ground. I get them in that position, they put their hands behind their head while their gun just disappears. It's especially exhilarating to do this in the middle of a fight, because I'm left thinking about how this poor SOB has to explain why he was found lying on the ground with his hands behind his head while the rest of his unit were knocked out to his commander.
>>
>>15253212
What about the mecha designs?

The feet are backwards and would cause it to fall flat on its face, the wheels would get instantly stuck in the sand, the flank is a sniper's wetdream, and flat panels. Flat. Fucking. Panels.

I get that this was set in the era where the Russkies were getting their shit pushed in by sandkebab, but FFS, they have articulated hand robots, you'd think Huey'd be smart enough to understand deflection dynamics.
>>
>>15250352
I was waaaaaaaaaay into it back in the day.
Went through MGS1 a few times. I played the fuck out of MGS2 Subsistence, got dog tags through... I forget. One of the higher levels. I knew a guy who got into the dog tags on the PS2 version. Didn't know about it until I was farming all the tags and then as I killed this guy I notice the name tag is Fred Soandso and I was all "oh shit I just killed Fred, hehyessss! (weird affirmative noise Fred made) "
Twin Snakes is fun enough, but I'm a mark for Kitamura flips and spins. But it doesn't get the isness of playing MGS1 at all. Like when you stick a SMB3 level in SMW.
Played through 3 a few times on the first one. I really liked it and didn't get why there were complaints about the camera. It took effort to figure out how to see everything you need but that was kinda the point I thought.
I bought the MGS3 Buy It Again edition but since then I don't get the opportunity to sit around for hours on end like MGS needs.
>>
>>15253354
So you haven't played 4?
>>
>>15253605
nah
I only finally got around to getting an HDTV last year. Still haven't gotten a PS3 or anything.

Man, how would you like to be the guy who not only has to be in front of the mech's body and what little cover it provides, but also have your head right next to the M2's muzzle as it's firing?

Also to MSX games are included in MGS3's extras.
>>
>>15253351
You put way, way too much importance on sloping armor panels on something that is not a tank. Choosing better materials matters more than sloping the armor.
>>
>>15261406
>Also to MSX games are included in MGS3's extras.

Yes, but only in the 2-disc extended editions and the HD release release. Just something to keep an eye out if you were wanting to play the MSX games.

I've only played 1-4, but MGS3 is far and away my favorite one.
>>
>>15250352
I thought MGR was ok despite the fun combat system. The level design just really goes to shit once you hit the sewer section and after Sundowner you can pinpoint the moment their development started to get rushed for release. All in all it's pretty impressive it turned out as well as it did considering the incredibly short development time Platinum had with it and it's a shame there will probably never be a sequel that fixes most of the issues I had with it.

All I really want is to play through the whole game as Sam ;_;

STANDING

ON THE EDGE

OF THE FRANCHISE

The public execution of the Metal Gear series is the reason I quit video games. Shit didn't even make sense.
>>
>>15263885
There were a ton of cool looking designs that were axed from V.

I'm still upset that the walker tank that they dickteased us with literally only got used in some nebulous resource collecting minigame.
>>
>>15264484
V was a marvel in the sense of everyone marveling at home Konami could half-ass it.
>>
>>15264810
Yes, V was the disappointment of the decade.
It had the best controls and character movement, the best graphics, and some of the missions like the one where you go through the misty valley to the warehouse with all the kidnapped africans were seriously atmospheric.
But it was also painfully incomplete.
>>
>>15264835
I spent half the game wandering into Huey's workshop just to see this thing in construction, and when it got finished you could only send it out on those merc deployments.
Like fuck me, not even a decent cutscene with it wrecking niggers.

He said it's because when games have serious shit in them he believes there should be comic relief. You think the Fulton balloons, cyborg anime ninjas, vampires, and cardboard boxes aren't supposed to make you chuckle?
It's weird ass Asian humor where they play goofy shit straight, usually there's some normal person to react, like glasses kid in gintama but since it's hipster Kojimbo, that's the player
>>
>>15253206
PW felt like its more advanced in terms of tech than other MGS.
