Was close to getting one of the Animeigo shirts with that image on it on Etsy. Some hipster fujoshit slag got to it before I did. An XL too, of all sizes. Wish those earlier shirts popped up more often. Or hell, even the pillowcase. What I'd give.

This is one of my prized possessions.

It's an original script used in the voice recording of Double Vision.

An interesting note is that originally vision was referred to as reika in the script, but they covered her name with stockers that say vision. Except for when they call her reika by name in the dialogue.

I think anon meant for the anniversary specifically. I would've mentioned the Wonfes figma but I don't know if that was an anniversary thing. Still wish I knew about that Animeigo kickstarter back in 2013. It'll be a long time before something else like that occurs again for BGC. They just finished wrapping up a Riding Bean one, too, not to mention the Otaku no Video one.

I felt like Adam Warren's characterization was interesting, at least.
>>
I actually remember thinking Vision would have been a decent replacement for Priss, but I guess people wanted Priss back and her actress came back to record the audio.

Haven't really cared for the attempted remakes. If you're gonna do BGC, just fucking do an 80s Blade Runner cyberpunk ripoff and stop trying to do extra stuff. That's all you have to do.

I got both crisis and crash on VHS in the big white clam shell cases with the cheap photo copies of the song lyrics tucked inside back in 1993. This was when everything Animeigo released was subbed. I honestly loved the music videos at the end, and by random chance found a bubblegum crisis soundtrack on CD about the same time with all that music

I actually bought this three times, twice on DVD, once on Blu-Ray. First it was the pink and shiny DVD set that took me years before I finally got it, so it was frustrating when I finally did and a few years later the blue Remastered version came out. I got that one after a while, because Episode 2 looked like garbage on the old DVD sets. The Remastered (blue) set was in my collection for a years before AnimEigo began crowdfunding the Blu-Rays. I saw screencaps from the Japanese Blu-Ray on /m/ some time before that, so I knew what a huge improvement it was and bought the AnimEigo release of the Blu-Rays.

I'd always HEARD of Bubblegum Crisis, but I hadn't actually seen it until I watched it on the Action Channel's anime lineup, along with the 2040 version, and was impressed enough to want to own it.

It's been one of my favorite anime ever since I first saw it.

Heh. "Sexy" in anime used to be so down to Earth.

Even in the 80s, I wondered WHY anime didn't go gonzo with the female form.

Little did I realize that in a decade or two, anime would go in the exact opposite direction.

So? She's egregiously sexualized -- who or what she's a version of has no bearing on that fact. She's a good example of the sexiness standard in modern mainstream mecha anime, as opposed to what women in freakin' HENTAI used to look like.

>>15262848

Being excommunicated by Mike seems to be a common experience among people who work with him. Over the years, many (most?) of his collaborators have met the same fate. I guess I thought that, having known him and been friends with him and worked with/for him for roughly 25 years (pic related: first RTG book I contributed to), I wasn't likely to join their ranks. Silly me!

Alright, storytime. When Mekton Zero was more than two years late, and "layout problems" had been cited as the main reason, I offered to step in and help solve said layout problems, if I could be paid a little (I was unemployed at the time).

In truth, I secretly doubted that layout problems were the real cause of the delay, but I didn't say that to him. I thought maybe by offering to help solve a probably-nonexistent problem, Mike might actually confide in me what was really going on.

Unfortunately, I didn't know that at that very same time Mike was in the midst of a potential lawsuit over not fulfilling the Mekton Zero kickstarter. This impending lawsuit could have even threatened his relationship with CD Projekt Red, who were/are RTG's revenue source.

My guess is that Mike took my offer as more of a challenge -- another attack, if you will. So he TORE ME APART over email.

He told me everyone else we work(ed) with was mad at me. (I researched this later, not true.) I was accused of taking advantage of RTG. He told me my cred is shot. I was told to stop blaming the world for my problems. (?!?) Mike was "apalled at my actions." I was told I need to learn to shut up. I was told to "do my job" even though I didn't work for him at that time. I was told I should apologize "like a man." I was told I should grow up.

And at the end of all that, he said "I still consider you a friend" but that I would never work with/for RTG again. So... yeah.

>Pondsmith sounds like either a psycho or a dick.

I actually think he might have some genuine mental problems. Depression and ADD, sure, but perhaps some kind of paranoid disorder or something too. I genuinely don't know.

In fairness, about a year prior he has tasked me with about 10 art pieces, and I took the job but then was unable to deliver. I felt awful about it and he accepted my apology and at the time didn't seem to be mad. And, hell, a year after that (two, now) the game still hadn't come out.

But when I messaged him with the layout assistance suggestion, he brought all that back like it was he biggest backstab anyone had every perpetrated against him. It was just... it was shocking.

Yikes. My sympathies.

>He was eventually fired by the head of the company.

I've never known exactly what went down at Microsoft when Mike left... But it does seem likely he was fired for being problematic in some way.

The problem is, when it comes to RTG, mike IS the head of the company. Or rather, "company," such as it is. RTG is really just the Pondsmith family (him, his wife, and his kid -- and his kid's friends, to some extent).

>It's a 100% classic case of a sociopath.

Speaking as someone born in 1970, who watched BGC in high school and fucking loved it, I can say that it's amazing it was so long ago. The most remarkable thing is how old I DON'T feel. Maybe loving /m/ fare helps ease the aging process!

That's good to know. My brother was born in the mid 70s and he doesn't seem that old. He was really into mecha, comics and sci-fi back in those days, particularly Star Wars and Transformers. He was always annoyed when I got into his stuff and he was right to be because my grubby little hands destroyed a lot of what would eventually become collector's items.

Thanks for the inspiration, a/m/igo.

I didn't discover the OVA series until only a few years ago myself, long after having seen 2040 and having grown nostalgic for it by that time.

I will say I was blown away by the high budget animation, OST, and design work of the OVA, and just as surprised when I found the production staff was the same behind Gall Force, Mospeada, and Megazone 23.

Artmic was the shit, man. If you haven't already, also check out Metal Skin Panic Madox-01 and Detonator Orgun. Same crew also did Mospeada, more or less.

Nowadays Artmic's mecha designers have moved on to other things. Shinji Aramaki directs CG /m/ fare like Appleseed and Starship Troopers and Junichi Akutsu is BEE-Craft, doing lots of great work on Gundam stuff.

I disagree, but to each his own. I don't get this CULT OF ASS that's taken over in the past several years so... A "fat ass" used to be a bad thing. I mean, I like a good ass, sure, but a BIG ass? No thanks. The classic Playboy ideal of 36-24-36 is more my speed. Although huger tits are fine too. And smaller ones, if the gal can pull it off/make up for it in the face and figure.

No fallacy.
Go watch any mainstream anime (aired on broadcast tv in prime time or whatever was the time slot for kids anime) from the 1970s, 1980s and maybe 1990s. You'll see shower scenes galore and no problem with drawing nipples.

That we can't even get nipples in Cross Ange (in dvd/bd) says it all about how sexually regressed the Japanese have gotten.
>>
>>15266536

Before the 2000s, women would starve themselves thin and go apeshit if you even implied they had an ass, but then people realized that the emaciated Auschwitz look was not sexy at the same time naturally voluptuous black and brown women were going mainstream.

>The classic Playboy ideal of 36-24-36

I guess that's a generational thing that ended with Gen X and the onset of internet porn. In those days, all a woman seemed to need was a big rack. I remember seeing Playboy models and being somewhat indifferent to the abundance of "long ass," that is women who were skinny and flat below the waist and therefore seemed to have their asses stretched out.

>Before the 2000s, women would starve themselves thin and go apeshit if you even implied they had an ass

This is sorta true.

>but then people realized that the emaciated Auschwitz look was not sexy

Well... I mean... emaciated I don't like and have never liked. I think most men have never been crazy about the rail-thin supermodel look, either. That's more something that women were (and still are, to some extent) pressured towards by the fashion and diet and beauty industries/cultures.

But -- there's a difference between looking anorexic, having a nice hourglass figure, and being PHAT, YO.

Me, I'm not really not into fat. I mean, I wouldn't kick Vida Guerra out of bed for eating crackers, but beyond her posterior boundaries I might start to scratch my head.

Just curious, what's your opinion on classic Lynda Carter? Because she's my ideal woman (to clarify, yes, I am a Generation X-er).

>at the same time naturally voluptuous black and brown women were going mainstream.

Yeah, the boom of hip-hop and such has really pushed butts to the forefront. I'm all for women NOT being pressured to be skinny, but to me "fat" (phat?) has never been a positive thing.

But! (Butt?) Like I said, I'm happy that women are under less pressure to be skinny. I think that's good for everyone. But now you get the phenomenon of women like Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj -- I mean, massively disproportionate ass implants just don't compute to me.

Lynda Carter never was anorexic. She's a real beauty (ah childhood dreams lol) but I've always prefered Lindsay Wagner (followed by the original Charlie's Angels).

American women used to be beautiful. Nowadays they're either too fat or fucking too thin. How about a nice middle line ? All that junk food and carbonated drinks has deleterious effects on a body.

You can have a relatively slim woman who has junk in the trunk.

Fat distribution is highly genetic. That's why some guys, but most often white guys, can get visible abs at like 14% body fat while other guys have to get it down to 8% before it begins to show. But the guy with 14% fat still has more fat proportionally, it's just somewhere else. It's true for women as well.

Basically, eugenics was the right idea and now the world is full of uglies baka

Although what you're saying is correct to a degree, you see that more due to how the market is handled, and less with whatever social norms or sentiments there are in Japan right now (although, as I mentioned before, this is also a factor that plays into the studios and distributors' decisions). The home video market strategy is why you see so much anime (including fanservice-focused anime) being censored in some way in their broadcast versions, so that the core audience and hard fans who might actually go buy the DVDs/BDs have even more incentive to do so. Although in the case of series like Cross Ange, they just couldn't add nipples because of the obviously-horrid budget they had.
>>
>>15272297
>How do you feel about the stuff that they ported in from Dream pPark to replace the material from Champions/Hero System (magic, powers, psionics...) in the print version of Fuzion?

Wellllll, I'm no Hero expert, but neither am I an ardent fan of Dream Park. I'll say this: Mike P and the Hero Crew had many meetings and many brainstorming sessions and worked hard together to create Fuzion. It came about because the Hero guys were looking at creating a simplified/streamlined version of their system, and what they had initially looked quite similar to Interlock. Mike and they got talking, and Fuzion was born. So it's not like Hero's elements were just tossed out and replaced -- a lot of the groundwork for the Interlock-Hero "fusion" had already been done (albeit unintendedly) by the Hero guys.

>I preferred the Hero stuff better myself. The Dream Park material didn't feel like a good fit.

Well, Hero is very good at what it does. I'd say that Interlock is very good at what it does. (Dream Park's system is really a simplified version of Interlock.) However, Hero and Interlock do different things, and as the Hero guys learned, their fanbase is full of ultra-grognards who aren't big fans of change.

It's quite a challenge to expand your fanbase without disturbing your existing fanbase. Pretty much every company walks this tightrope, I'm sure.

Interesting.
Personally I see BGC as kind of synthwave in anime form. A shamelessly reverent celebration of 80s pop culture, visuals, sounds and sci-fi movies, with the obvious difference being that it's still a product of that time instead of a recreation made in the future we live in now.

I think the main problem in using Dreampark mixed with Fuzion is Mike P fuck up the conversion, specialty the Damage/Protection aspect of it and its missing part.

And it fact, its missing parts.

Not doing a fucking Errata to fix the problems only makes things worse. Fuzion really need a second edition made for some who understand its problems.

Or maybe someone can port thing from Dreampark to Action! System (the OGL version of Fuzion made be Gold Rush Games, someone remember or just me?), just to make Mike have a fit.
>>
>>15278629

Quality over quantity. Always. Too many people think that just having a lot of something is best, but that is wrong. Some fat bitch with big "tits" is not going to be as attractive or interesting as an athletic woman with large breasts. A well formed, semi-muscular ass is always more interesting than some flabby, cellulite ridden mass.

The episodes with Irene and Reika seemed like they were mainly about Irene and Reika. Linna doesn't have much of a personality beyond being "the normal one" of the Knight Sabers. She reacts in those episodes like a normal person would under those circumstances -- or as normal of a person who works on a team of vigilantes can be, anyway. We know that she's interested in dance, martial arts and getting rich, but we never see how much these things mean to her.

Good job, /m/ate. I looked and only noticed solnoids. Rummy is eating, figures.

I wonder if Sonoda also thinks of BGC as taking place in the post-Gall Force universe. He has a possible Lufy reincarnation in Gunsmith Cats, and this portrayal of Solnoids and Knighto Sabers together makes me think about the ending of Eternal Story.

What I was specifically thinking of was that you'd expect a character like her to have a flatter chest, especially someone who doesn't constantly joke around like 2040 Nene does. OTOH, both versions of Nene lied about their ages to get into AD Police, so they had to be able to look convincingly like they were over 18 somehow.
>>
This show sounds really gay. I don't know anything about anime though. I was molested as a child in my swimming pool. I didn't know you could be molested in your swimming pool. I always thought being molested meant a creepy guy touching your privates. But this was my uncle who I looked up to as a kid. You guys are the only people who I've told. It left a mental scar on me but I don't want to stir up trouble after so long. Its been over 12 years since it last happened, its over the statute of limitations.
>>

I like 2040 Nene better than original Nene. She had a little more bite to her. She didn't seem fucking pathetic, like original Nene did.

I also liked 2040 Priss and Linna better. Priss had a little more edge, like she should have had, and Linna had an actual personality and an actual purpose in the story.

That said, original Sylia, original Leon, and pretty much everything else about the original OVAs was superior to 2040. The first half of the series had great promise, but then totally pissed it all away in the second half.

The worldbuilding could gave it the potential to be a serious work of cyberpunk, but it wasn't intended to be. The biggest disappointment with the BGC OVAs is that the Largo story arc is the best part of the plot but it also has the largest amount of plot holes. Like: When did Mason transfer his mind into Largo? Who helped him? Did Largo intend for the sexaroids to steal the DD? If Sylvie could hypnotize people with her eyes, why did she have to use the DD to drain their blood? If the DD is a prototype intended for battlefield use, why is its self-destruct device a neutron bomb capable of killing the entire population of Mega-Tokyo? If the J-1 battle computer activates when it thinks Sylvie is dead, why is killing Sylvie for real the only way to deactivate it? Why does Largo's boomer form look so silly? Why wasn't there any dialogue establishing that the rest of the Knight Sabers went back to their HQ to get the MSX-01 and Typhoon II Motoslaves to rescue Priss?

He whips off his shirt and he instantly has gray skin and purple hair. He's still wearing his suit pants which look really incongruous. That's anime trope that's been around longer than either of us has been alive.

>gray skin and purple hair.

So?

>He's still wearing his suit pants which look really incongruous.

He still has skin. You really want him to be running around in battle WITHOUT pants?

>He can manipulate gravity with his hands even though we've never seen any boomer do it before.

His boomer powers were unusual, that's for sure, but they weren't silly. They were fierce!

>If he could do all that, why couldn't he make himself fly instead of falling into a pit?

It's been a while. Do we know he could manipulate gravity? Or could he just throw his punches and stuff like that?

>He just doesn't look like much of a final boss.

He's understated for a "boss monster," but dignified (and humanoid) enough to still be recognizable as a thinking, emotive character.

I don't find Largo's boomer form silly at all. It is decidedly mysterious and comes outta left field, that's for sure. I'd love to have learned more about it -- perhaps if the series had gotten its full 13 episodes and hadn't had so many stutters in its production we would have gotten those answers, I don't know.

But seriously, Brian J Mason's battlesuit, with its pattern-predicting capabilities was quite an asspull too. And was also kinda dumpy looking.

>dignified (and humanoid) enough to still be recognizable as a thinking, emotive character.

I don't think Largo needs to emphasize that so much. He's a human being who willingly gave up his humanity, and I wish the series had brought back more of the "body horror" aspects of boomers that mostly only appeared in the first episode. If I were designing Largo, I'd want him to look like a fallen angel -- energy wings extending from his back (which could get damaged, and that's why he falls into the pit), and Ghost in the Shell-style pop-out weapons.
>>

I guess the plan was to show more about her in future episodes before it was cancelled. It's not as if we knew much from Nene before episode 8 either. It wouldn't surprise me if the plan was to make an episode about Linna, one about Sylia and maybe one about Leon and afterwards wrap the whole story.
