Neither FDS nor the Baldiroiser were automatic. Baldiroiser did take some really dumb play and you not fielding Baldios to not get though.

The only early attack secrets in Z were Great Booster, the Bazooka Launcher, and Final Stage (And technically Flying Armor Crash and Big O's plasma weapons but you get them like a stage later so whatever). The Biosensor weapons and Baldiroiser require you to do dumb things to miss their second shot, FDS requires a bit less of a dumb thing since it needs four units on the field instead of just one, and G-Bits are assholes.
