Gundam already has a large fanbase that can make a show a success with their support. The problem is that IBO doesn't get much support outside of that fanbase. The show is not very popular with the target demographics and mainly supported by men aged 20 and up.

Let me put it like this. Remember how big SEED supposedly was? The reason why they moved to a new timeline despite the show's popularity was two factors. The show's primary fanbase weren't buying gunpla, and the fans in general were getting too old for Bandai's liking. Gundam 00 was meant to bring males in middle school and high school back to the franchise.

That was Bandai dumping a popular setting, and IBO is nowhere near as big as SEED was. Build Fighters was just meant to be a quick spinoff, didn't get as much promotion, and yet they're still cashing in on it.
