It doesn't help that the final boss' design made the rest of the enemy mechs not really stack up to it. But yeah, it was made a bit too late.

Overall, the series can, in a way, act as a time capsule showing how Toyoo Ashida's art style developped over time.

2 was the high point plot-wise. Chou piled the shounen-ai on bit much.

S2 is basically a continuation of S1, for better or worse as far as the shows formula goes.

The cast dynamic is still fun to watch though once they all show up and I agree with >>15232429 about the plot.

Too bad Chou retcons S2, poor Umihiko
