Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Prebuild done, still a few rough spots I'll have to sort out. I didn't put on the treads because it would be hard to pull them apart and I'm sure I'd break at least one chain link.

I was wondering if I should make the handles metallic, but I feel it would take away from the original look. I might brush on a bit silver on them later as weathering.

I'll start separating the parts and prime it for painting. Still even now it's pretty darn cute.

Those old kits were something alright. If you wanted it to look presentable and not like a horrible bootleg you had to work for it.

That being said, some of them had parts molded with multiple colors. Also there was a lot of empty space to put in LEDs wires and batteries.

It is cheap to make them ~13-to-15 cm tall but the size still allows for a lot of detail. Also manageable for any modellers, from beginner to expert, unlike the very small or the very big.

I'm okay with those, they cost around 2500JPY and they seem a good project that you can finish in a week or two.

I try to make the cut from the nubs as clean as possible with a knife and then I use a metallic red gundam marker over the spot.

It does not really cover at all the resulting imperfection, but at least it helps to dissimulate it. It also helps that most of the nubs end up covered by other parts and surfaces of the kit

titanium kits are not undergated, so don't expect a perfect job with them
just be very careful with the knife when removing nubs, as the metallic finish on the red parts is really easy to scratch

Has anyone else noticed a drop in quality from Bandai recently? I don't frequent this thread because I'm honestly not that far above basic snap-pleb level. I'm not inexperienced with gunpla, I've snapped my way through dozens of them. I'm not a hamhands, and I don't treat the parts roughly, but my last two RG kits have had parts literally crumble while handling them. The RG Sinanju had two of it's hands fall to pieces. One while nipping it from the other, and another while rotating the fingers into position. The RG 00 I'm working on right now just had the connecting pieces for one of the GN Drives fall apart when I picked it up to do a little bit of panel lining. I'll call a more experienced friend tomorrow and make an attempt at gluing it back together, but is it just that I'm unlucky, or is plastic quality going down the shitter?

The only kits in recent memory I've had any problems with were my HG Gebera Tetra, RG GP-01, and MG AGE-2.
The former-most was missing a polycap (Had to steal one from my HG Revel ReZel, dooming it to a Waverider-only existence), and the latter two was due to me messing around with parts tolerances before having all the proper fittings in place; so totally my fault.

Not really, but I've noticed that the IBO kits are a lot more hollow and gappy than previous kits. And from pics it looks like not even the 1/100 Barbie Lou Rex is spared from this.

I had that same conundrum when I was working on my Mk II. There aren't too many spots in the navy section so it wasn't that big of a deal. I used black. It's hard to see the black lining on the bare plastic but once you top coat it, the blue will lighten slightly and the lining will become much more apparent.

Plastic cement for models isn't like a traditional glue. It evaporates away and doesn't leave and residual material whilst it's mechanism of action is to dissolve the piece for its glueing effect. It wont make the part bigger. Super glue, on the other hand, will make your parts thicker and thus will affect motion if you use too much.

I work in the visual effects movie industry and intend to become a visual effects supervisor one day. In order to do that I need a good amount of knowledge in all areas so that I can better assess a situation and decide what should be done.

Well the Testors cement I had on hand is thick. It didn't hold. Cyanoacrylate also didn't hold. When it broke, I lost a few small shards in the process. I had enough to piece it back into shape, but I guess the little shards came from inside and I just didn't have the surface area on the inside to make it work. The piece in question isn't PS, it's ABS.

In any case, I got an unexpected bonus last week and there's a local place that probably has the RG 00 in stock, I'll probably pay them a visit tomorrow afternoon. I'll take the parts I need out, and keep the rest around until inspiration strikes me for something to do with it.
