Unless the cockpit has some crazy shock absorbers, and there's a lot of mechs that don't have that level of tech.

That is actually a funny thing about the mecha genre, both Mazinger Z and Getter Robo actually accounted for the g-forces the pilots would be experiencing, so much that the sheer ball-busting g-force from piloting a Getter Machine is enough to kill normal people therefore needing the crazy motherfuckers we know to pilot the Getter Machines.
