4 is far better than 2.

The only reason people like 2 is because of its post-modernist techniques, when you cut past the WE CREATE CONTEXT and the idea that Raiden is supposed to be a self-insert representation of the player, it's an inferior rehash of MGS1 dolled up in a more up to date engine.

4 on the other hand deals with growing up and realizing that the smoke and mirrors that go into creating the illusion of depth is just that, smoke and mirrors. All that remains is the interactive content that defines the game itself, and 4 has some of the best game content of the entire franchise due to how it integrates its various mechanics.
