Why do subtitles constantly use these words when the voices just says renpo or zion? Even without the me honorific.
>>15192943
because fuck vernacular translations I must satisfy the /m/ crowd with my shitty references :DD
Bexcuse it bothers you.

It depends on the character's speaking style or tone, the context. I don't believe any character in any Gundam work ever says フェッディー, but it's possible to say 連邦 and be disrespectful. In such a situation, saying "the Earth Federation" would be accurate, but would miss the point.

>Ugaiz! I think TVN should sub Gundam!
Said no one ever

Mark Simmons came up with the abbreviations so there'd be less syllables for the dub.
I'd say it was a decent effort at localization. You have to be flexible with this sort of thing.

>zeon
>zeek
Saved a bunch of space there
>Feddie
>Feds (shorter and an actual abbreviation we use)
>>15192943
Because that is how we speak in English mother fucker. We didn't call them "the Japanese" we called them Japs or Nips or gooks or zipper heads or slant eyes.
>>15194355
ze-on
zeek
But really >>15194470 is the main reason. It's the closest to a typical wartime insult towards the enemy.
>KONO PRESSHA
how do you translate this?
>>15192943
English speakers are rude
they say "Those fucking gooks!" instead of "Those fucking Koreans!"
>>15192943
Commie
Jap/Nazi/Gook
>>15194355
>Feds
Police already use that one so it would have been confusing.
Basically what this guy>>15194470 said. In the heat of the moment, soldiers wouldn't yell "Egads, it is the forces of Zeon!", they'd say something along the lines of "It's the fucking Zeeks!".
