Considering that it's an all-CGI show, I thought it turned out okay. I always temper my expectations with regards to that kind of stuff.

Overall, the anime is pretty good IMO, it streamlines the early parts of the manga and makes it more consistent (it looks more like it's set in the modern-distant future, with less of the weird callbacks to old Japanese traditions). The way a few characters are treated and the hardware/technology development/introduction have a few liberties taken, but mainly for the better.

The anime ends at one of the middle arcs of the manga, and takes several of the above-mentioned liberties with that, but it still feels like a complete experience. Depending on whether or not Nihei feels like going along with a season 3, there aren't going to be that many hiccups in terms of consistency.

I would say, watch the anime first without reading the manga, and then go through the manga afterward. It won't exactly feel like two different experiences, but I appreciated the anime just fine and didn't have my opinion dampened by reading the source material afterward.

I've never read the manga, only watched the anime. I enjoyed the first season greatly, and it felt kind of like an anime version of the new Battlestar Galactica to me. The second season, while still fun, wasn't as good to me. Both were at least acceptable-tier to me.

I have read through the manga, and if I knew how to do spoilers I'd tell y'all which girl he gets in the end. The anime sadly doesn't include robot girl. Waifuism aside, I found that if you enjoyed the anime it would be worth reading the manga, it's a little slower paced and more in-depth in showing character dynamics, not to mention finishing the story. I quite liked the CGI, but it only worked (better than Ajin) because of the sci-fi setting of harsh light and artificial surfaces. 7/10

It's good. The "shitty harem show" talk is by people who don't realize Nihei is deconstructing and parodying that shit because they've never read a Nihei manga. The plot wasn't about the romances considering the canon pairing is a man and his giant squid woman with a tentacle dick. The plot was about what direction of humanity was better to take, immortality and survival via biological perfection or imperfect cooperation. Nihei hates harem shit.

The only part you could suggest is a parody is how Tsumugi look(even then monster girl is hardly a new thing) and the ending which really was more just shock value

The girls do all seriously like him, they act passive aggressive to each other over him, we get a beach, hot springs and straight up dates along with a whole new world scene. The romance isn't just a joke, Yuhata and Izana barely have characters outside it.

Manga ending was awful....a lackluster...hope the anime redo the ending..

I didn't mind the harem stuff, for the most part I think it was funny, the adaptation spent too much time on it though. The manga just got kinda boring and dull after robutt got introduced.

Sidonia is probably the biggest waste of potential I've ever read. It has a really interesting setting and premise and a decent enough beginning, but it absolutely falls apart near the middle and turns into "harem shenanigans in space," then it has a really shoddy cop-out ending.

The anime has the same problem of being a poorly disguised harem show, but at least it tries to make things interesting and has fantastic sound design. The animation runs at a really choppy framerate though, and takes a lot of getting used to.
