Looks like shit.

What did we do to deserve this
>>15168174
Hollywood even made a Kite movie a fucking Kite movie.
>>15168138
Will PuppetMaster still have a great rack?
Looks like the worst fault of this is the same as Terminator where they would remake iconic scenes shot-for-shot.
It makes even less sense here.
WHY IS SHE SO FUCKING FAT?!
Fuck you if you pay to see this.
>>15168302
>fat
Anon the movie doesn't look very interesting, but come on now
What is she doing to that android torso exactly?
ScarJo still looks so doughy, did they or her just not have any exercise regiment for this movie?
Hello little friend. I was afraid you'd get replaced with something more contemporary.
>>15168138
I said it'd be awful when I first heard the news about a decade ago and I was right.
>no Antje Traue as Major
>no Perlman as Batou
>no Scarjo as 2501

>>15168386
Yeah. It's been like that for yeaaaaaaaars.
>>15168386
Or at the very least fire the suit in charge of movie marketing.
Looks like a vast improvement over the original series which was meant to be taken seriously despite having a police officer running around in a leotard.
>>15168554
Jump off a buIliding. And refrain from using neither grappling hooks, nor thermoptic camo.

>>15168469
Detonate nukes along the San Andreas fault so we can cast the twats adrift.
>>15168554
Fuck you Johansson.
>>15168296
Does it?
Remaking iconic scenes of Terminator in a Terminator movie is weird because you are banking on the nostalgia of the original movies to get people in seats in the first place. A certain amount of it can be excused by time travel, but intentionally comparing yourself to the better remembered and more iconic iteration of your franchise is rarely for the better.
This movie, on the other hand, is by default marketed at people who HAVEN'T seen Ghost in the Shell. Its a decades old japanese cartoon movie, as far as hollywood suits are concerned its only slightly more recent than the fall of the roman empire and has about as many fans. They are betting on the name recognition to fill seats, not direct nostalgia.
So re-doing classic GitS scenes makes sense here, because they are expecting this to be the first time most of the audience will have seen them.
>>15168386
Agreed.Hollywood hasn't made a decent movie in a good 5 years.
>>15168709

contrarianism is reaching new exciting heights, I see.
Now, having low-ass standards and liking mediocre Hollywood shlock is considered a sign of rebellious free-thinking.
What an amazing time we live in.

It's probably gonna be successful. God fucking damn it. Get ready for Hollywood ruining everything you hold dear.

>>15170094

>>15168684
Different Anon here, I find it kind of weird that they're specifically adhering to the first movie when there's so many other adaptations. They could do whatever they want, call it another adaptation and slap a "based on the famous series" on it. Plus calling it classic GitS scenes feels odd when the movie took a bunch of liberties from the original manga.
>>15170109
because nobody cares about the manga.
because SAC isn't nearly flashy enough.
because the movie is the only part of the franchise that has ICONIC VISUALS plebs can point at and go "I RECOGNIZE THAT SHOT!"
because the movie is the only part of the franchise that got actual recognition from mainstream audiences.
because the movie is the most "serious" part of the franchise, which allows them to market it to nerds who are afraid of the stigma of watching a movie for teenagers, AND to the kind of idiots who like snyder capeshit, AND to the kind of pretentious assholes who want to see a serious movie for serious people such as themselves and only saw the movie.
so all in all it makes perfect sense
>>15170094
You're exactly the type of person they're cashing in on. Omedetou.
>>15170115
What, people who haven't even seen the movie?
>>15170119
dumb fanboys who only want to bask in the feeling that Hollywood acknowledges the existence of something they like.
>>15168138
The first movie is great and moody but "an ai coming to life and "am i human if i have a robot body" aren't really mind-blowing sci-fi questions. It's not like it was that deep.
Also Ghost in the Shell constantly remixes itself anyways. SAC and Arise just take random bits from what came before.
>>15170125
>It's not like it was that deep.
Nobody's saying the new movie absolutely needs to be deep, or that the original was particularly deep.
Nobody's saying it HAS to be exactly like what came before.
But here's the problem: it TRIES to seem just like the movies, but doesn't go all the way to do that. Instead you've got callback shots and references, but do they really matter on their own?
It doesn't really try to be its own thing, but it doesn't really try to be a faithful adaptation of the source material either.
And let's not act as if every iteration of GitS was good. Clearly just "taking random bits from what came before" isn't sufficient to make something decent, and people have complained numerous times, and rightfully so, about several reinterpretations of those "random bits" across each new adaptations.
>>15168138
That isn't Yoko Kanno, give me back the anime now.
>>15168138
>Looks like shit.
Not at all. It looks visually faithful to the original ghost in the shell anime film.
>>15170019
>It's probably gonna be successful. God fucking damn it. Get ready for Hollywood ruining everything you hold dear.
Blame the fucking japs. After all, it's them who sold the rights to a ghost in the shell live action film to the american bastards.

>>15173313
Who's the black Batou?
>>15173321
Another ranger it seems. Is the one in the right supposed to be Saito?
>>15173313
WHY IS IT A HIND?
>>15173428
Because they haven't made an Apache style crew carrier yet.
>>15173453
The one in the movie isn't even a real Hind, if they're gonna make a fictional design based on a real helicopter at least make it a NATO styled one that Nippon might actually use.
I seem to recall the helicopter in MGSV basically being a westernized Hind.
>>15173470
What? In the anime, the japs have a completely different country than the real one.
They have a full real army, and are not even allies of the USA, which is actually called american empire. It makes a lot of sense that they would have they original model (Jigabachi)
So, why would they based it on a NATO style, it wouldn't make any sense
>>15173496
>they original model
Their own*
>>15173470
Because Hollywood only knows about three military helicopters. The Huey. The Hind. And the Apache.
It doesn't matter what ficu-Jappan would use, because Hollywood's the one throwing money at this project. And Hollywood loves what it knows.
>>15173313
they all look so goofy!
>>15173496
>>15173543
It makes more sense for future Japan to produce a helicopter evolved from the western designs they use now than to use what appears to be a worse version of the Soviet Hind, unless they're closely allied with Russia, which I wouldn't know yet since I'm only a few chapters into the manga, after having seen the '95 film.
I googled that Jigabachi thing you mentioned, it's a pretty neat design, good to know pleb mainstream moviegoers get a shitty Hind clone instead.
>>15173666
they aren't closely allied with the USSR but they're on pretty good term (aside from the usual squabbles over the Kuril isles), there's even a chapter (the most proper cyberpunk one) in a Russian city-port that's full of japs.
>>15170050
Ugh, the accuracy hurts. Mason would probably be played by jason marston.
It doesn't look as bad as I thought it would, though since I had no expectations for it at all it's not the biggest praise. Getting Snyder DC movie vibes out of it though, as in that the trailer is filled with all these stylish shots and that the actual movie might be pretty dull/soulless, dunno why.
Dunno why people are getting anal over accuracy when GitS has multiple different interpretations of the original source material and the only one people outside of /m/ even give a shit about is Oshii's reworking of it
Another thing I don't get...
Why are they showing her so much in her nude body? I thought the point of those scenes in the manga/anime was the Major going invisible. But here it just feels like they want to show off a nude chick for no real rasin. To someone who doesn't know GitZ, that's what it's gonna feel like. "Oh, they got this major porn star to be in the movie, better get her naked as often as possible!"
>>15173321
it supposed to be borma
>>15176794
Why?

This movie is obviously going for gits lite. Lots of action tons of "nudity" lots of flashy over the top cinema to keep the people entertained. With some easy to digest philosophy, Maybe.

People wouldn't be getting anal over accuracy if it wasn't such a half-assed attempt to appeal to people who liked the movie.
Instead of actually looking like the movie (or being its own thing) it tries to REMIND us of the movie and suffers from the comparison.
If nothing else, the cover song for the trailer is pretty damn cool.

If anything you're the one who's being contrarian, nobody likes the new Depeche Mode single and that remix is even more tasteless than the Linkin Park one.
And let's not act as if using a Depeche Mode song isn't precisely aimed at old men and hipsters.

Don't watch it you sniveling bitch.
>>15180388
We won't be able to escape it, you dumbass, we'll be bombarded with youtube trailers, ads, and 4chan posters telling us all about what they watched.
Even if you try to avoid it there's no way your enjoyment of the franchises they fuck up won't be at least a little soured every time you come across that shit.
Don't pretend otherwise.
>>15180392
>there's no way your enjoyment won't be a least a little soured
If you're not a bitchy autist it won't. Is this movie going to replace existing GitS media, and it's going to be illegal to watch the original stuff? No. So nothing is being "ruined", faggot.
>We won't be able to escape it
Try getting off the fucking Internet.
>>15180398
You know perfectly well that "ruining something" means spoiling one's enjoyment of it, through mental association, which is perfectly normal and unavoidable.
You know it, but you're pretending otherwise because you want to sound wise and imperturbable or someshit. But since you're the kind of guy who argues about shit on the internet and calls other people bitchy autists, I don't think you're actually able to just ignore what you don't like.
>Try getting off the fucking Internet.
Right back at you
>>15180416
I'm just tired of reading the same shit anytime there's a remake of a beloved franchise.
If you're telling me that you're going to like GitS less because of this shitty movie, that's not normal at all, you have fucking problems.
>>15180440
It IS normal. It's called mental association. It's a normal process of the human psyche. And yeah it can be a problem. It happens to everyone all the time. It's a big part of how tastes evolve.
Just like it's normal to start lashing out against people's monotonous negativity even though you fundamentally agree with it: that's because monotony is boring.
