So I haven't been on this board in ages. The last mech show

So I haven't been on this board in ages. The last mech show I saw was 00. I've heard about the other flagship gundam shows, but haven't seen any of them since 00. (Although I did see Unicorn being a huge UC nerd) Between AGE, Reconguista in G and Iron Blood which is the best? Should I watch any of them?
>>
Best in Reconguista in G.
>>
>>15166785
How so? Should I avoid AGE and Iron Blooded Orphans?
>>
>>15166783
I'd say Iron Blooded Orphans.
AGE is generally considered pretty bad by /m/ because the third protagonist goes totally anti-war and starts saving enemy lives from people on his own side. If you aren't at least 60% hippie, you're going to hate Kio (but if you're like me, it's actually a pretty good show).

Reco is hard to describe without starting an argument. No matter what you say about it, good or bad, it derails whatever thread it's mentioned in. Some people think that the fact that you have to connect the dots yourself is next-level writing encouraging you to actually think about the story, others think it's just senile babbling. It's nicely animated, more lighthearted than almost everything except Build Fighters and SD Gundam, and revolves around a patently absurd religion that makes Contolism seem sane and well thought out. It is the only Gundam show I've ever dropped.
(cue the fans calling me an ADD retard and singing its praises)

Nice bait, you don't know when to stop.
>>
>>15166869
Its not bait? I honestly don't know what to tell you that'd make you believe. I'm just trying to figure out which anime I want to watch next and seeing as how they're a bit of an investment I want to make sure I watch a good one.

The one thing that made the most upset about G-Reco is that it takes place after the events of the UC.
>>
>>15166884
Everything takes place after UC.
G, Wing, X, SEED, AGE, 00, Turn A, all that shit is after UC.
Reco is after Turn A, so it's like 10,000 years after UC.
>>
>>15166898

Hold up, I thought all of those were in their own alternate universes.
>>
>>15166869
exactly, he created the same thread two days ago.
why are people so fucking stupid?

No, Tomino made Turn A specifically to unify the various Gundam stories. His setting notes (as published in The History Of Turn A) even state that the moonlight butterfly is DG Cells. Corin Nander is from AC era, the blueprints stolen by the Luziana Militia from the Black History room include Fuunsaiki and Nether Gundam from G Gundam, and so on and so forth.

Recently people have started to skew back in that "alternate universe" direction in the form of Origin (the manga) and Thunderbolt. While the Origin manga was a re-imagining of the original series that deliberately drastically altered canon, the anime version of Origin has taken steps to fold itself into regular UC canon. Similarly, the mangaka who created Thunderbolt is on record as saying that he specifically wanted his story to be separate from, and therefore unbound by, existing continuity. In practice, though, the only actual problem with the Thunderbolt anime (and most of the manga) is the fact that mobile suits that aren't posted in the Thunderbolt sector are still shown with Thunderbolt designs instead of the classic UC designs.

The one bit of animation that simply cannot be reconciled with existing canon is the third movie of Zeta Gundam: A New Translation, because Tomino/Sunrise deliberately changed the ending in order to sell more movie tickets because people would be curious about what changed.

Of course most of /m/ kind of ignores the fact that the single universe is official canon and still calls non-tomino shows "AU" and there's frankly no point in trying to convince them because they simply don't want to accept it.

Honestly, it hasn't been looking too good for Gundam AUs in general since 00 aired. AGE is the reason why 50 episode shows aren't done anymore, and nobody really talks about it on here on /m/ or anywhere else for that matter. I haven't watched it so I can't tell you whether to watch it or not.

G-reco is probably the most controversial entry to date, this anime has spawned countless threads between two camps of shitposters, one that claims it is a dumpster fire and another that claims it is a flawless masterpiece. I'm pretty sure all of this shitflinging came from the hype (Tomino-directed, impressive teaser PV, set after UC) before it came out, and the subsequent letdown many felt as it was coming out.

My personal score is a 8/10, I loved how full of life everything felt, the characters and how I learned how their world worked through their casual conversations. It does have flaws, the pacing was wonky in a lot of parts and sometimes I felt a bit lost in how some factions would interact with each other. I would recommend watching this one especially if you're a UC fan like you say, you should be comfortable with Tomino's quirks already.

No, fuck you.
I am actually recommending it because I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It is not perfect, but it is far from bad. Really the only thing I'd fault it with is setting up plot points immediately before their resolution (Masahiro for example) but otherwise it's very solid.

You're free to squeal about how horrible you think it is if you want, but if you think that it's not possible for other people to honestly have a different opinion than you then you need to find your way to a Reco thread (you'll fit right in).

There is no real continuity between them, ignore crazy fan theories.

He hates Gundam. He's been trying to end it since CCA.

IBO was also pretty hyped from the start, it promised gritty action with no beam-spam, and a premise that seemed like it had a lot of potential for feels and whatnot. Add to that a kickass 1st OP and ED, and a strong start to the show on their home planet of Mars for three episodes, and it felt like this would be a great show. But then, they get on a spaceship to escort the daughter of a politician that wants to reform Mars, and the pacing and excitement of the story pulmmets down hard. The people who pointed at the red flags before the honeymoon period ended turned out to be right, as the writing became trite and predictable (suddenly showing somebody's long lost brother TWICE and playing up the feels so you can make the audience feel bad when they die) and the space arc dragged on for ever to boot, sucking the fun out of following it every week. And the icing on the cake was the ending that bait and switched characters dying only to have them perfectly fine after the bad guy was defeated. It had it's moments, but IBO looked to be pretty bad overall.

S2 of IBO, in my opinion, actually redeems a lot of what went wrong with S1 and actually makes an effort to improve, stuff like more battles and more looks and more looks at the background story of how IBO's setting came to be, and cool spins on Gundam tropes like sentient Mobile Armors and the Garma becoming a CHAR are pretty cool. I would go as far as to say that it's worth going through S1 just for S2 alone.

Also you should definitely check out Gundam Thunderbolt, it's a great OVA set in UC (maybe, it gets kinda wonky justifying some tech in it) that features protags on each side of the OYW and great action, soundtrack, and animation. Definitely strongly recommend that one.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
