Wing isn't good but it is overrated. It's more like FFXIII along with Seed

FF7 was a very solid game. Wing, on the other hand, had promise, but it tanked after it switched directors and lost track of what it was supposed to be.

The only reason why Wing got such a high regard because back in 2000, American viewers never seen an animation like it before. With anti-colonial rhetoric and examinations on the inhumanity of mechanized warfare, Wing was this new and cool thing to behold.

As a long-time mecha fan since 1988 as a kid growing up in Europe, the only redeeming part of Wing was Treize. Never before did we see a character like him for Gundam, much less mecha and I really enjoyed his limited role.

Wing is complete garbage even by Gundam standards

I'm not that guy, first off, but Wing is fucking awful. Maybe it's because I enjoyed Victory and ZZ, which felt miles more coherent and and than Wing's fucking constant WAR PEACE nonsense babble and fucking awful combat and fucking terrible Gundams and far worse characters.

I hate using buzzwords but to be quite frank Wing tries really goddamn hard in my opinion to be both 2deep, 2edgy, and 2cool at the same time and fails utterly. I've been fucking trying to watch this series over the past few months- I can barely bring myself to want to watch it. I hate all of the characters, I know the action won't satisfy, the ""politics"" literally mean nothing (why does Romefeller want to take over the world? lol control/ Oz replaces UESA because lol we're stronger), all of the main Gundam pilots are shitheads of some variety, the Gundams are ugly as shit compared to every single one to come before it AND they're literally fucking invincible, the grunts, the decent mecha, never stand a fucking chance in hell against them, without mentioning how they explode like no tomorrow (except for when the plot calls for it or good guys are using it)

I am not going to go over my fucking laundry list of complaints about Wing, but regardless it's horrible to me. I enjoyed both ZZ and victory for their casts, mecha and choreography, and for the general plots- watching stuff like Katejina go bonkers or Marshmallow go out in a blaze of glory? The Geze being a geezer? Death tires? That's alright- it's all fun to me. What isn't fun is GOD OF DEAAATH and "come start a war already!"

I am watching it for completion's sake. The fault lies with me, really, but fucking god damn it is not nice to me.

So 00 is like XII where it tries taking itself seriously but falls flat in the end? Both are also the best in their franchise.

I'm 7 episodes in and so far I think Wing is basically ZZ but edgier. Also, the pilots of the Gundams come off as some kind of boyband. I mean, look at the pose this faggot pulls off, I've never seen anything so pretentious.

My problem with Wing is so very little happens that matters to the main characters or the overarching plot. A large majority of the show is just Oz and related groups staging coups and power changing hands between unimportant figureheads.
I remember like half way through the show, when things should finally be picking up, the boys all start distancing themselves from their Gundams and fucking off to different corners or space.
Wing's main problem is it's such a slog to get through. In any other Gundam at least you start feeling investment in the characters and a sense of rising conflict. Not Wing.

Everything about Wing other than the 5 pilots and Relena is great.

FF7 is one of the best games ever made though and superior to wing within its own franchise.

Not him, but FFVII rarely had dull or repetitive moments. Unlike Wing and its new coup of the week, or reused animation.

There are so many little one-off mechanics/events in FFVII that really go beyond just running around fields/towns talking to people and battling. Like the very small timing puzzle early on when you're climbing up to the Shinra HQ, or the puzzle pieces to unlock the safe in the Mansion. Things like those throw a little "hey, are you still paying attention?" moments into the game. Even the final dungeon throws a twist into things what with there being multiple paths to the bottom. It's much less "vanilla" than even most rpgs released today.

Wing's first half was just amazing.
I'm that guy who finds at least some value in any Gundam series, but 1st half of the series was the most badass shit I've seen in any Gundam.

2nd half... yeah, it was considerably weaker, but it managed to hold together more or less, imo.

I just would like to know what the fuck were they thinking when they just dropped Trowa (aka the most interesting main character, aside from Duo) until pretty much the finale for no real reason.

Also, not really a big fan of Endless Waltz.

I liked the attention to tactics that Victory had, even if some of them were silly. I thought the Newtype magic bullshit was shockingly well-handled: it was merely silly instead of terrible.
