I like how the manga concluded Third Impact

I think most of the other media is generally fucking weird. For a series that ended up taking itself so brutally serious it's odd when so many things relating to it seem not to.

In general, it's funny that a show that developed the way it did as a result of a dislike for otaku culture became such a staple of it. I always wonder if Anno ever objected to all the merchandise, or just got past what he was going though and was fine with it.

The manga just seemed inconsistent to me. It was originally based on the original outline for Eva tv, but then when getting to the 2nd half, when the tv series deviated a lot from the outline, Sadamoto got cold feet and started retconning stuff to be able to just follow the anime with some small changes, like how Asuka suddenly had a father she never mentioned before in order to have the same backstory and childhood trauma as anime Asuka rather than the "Child from an elite sperm bank" stuff from her manga introduction.

I did like some of the small additions in the 2nd half, like their 2nd attempt to use the Positron rifle, but overall I can't really consider it superior to the anime due to how forced some of those later developments to line up the first half with the 2nd half are.

Yeah, the 2nd half fell apart since it was also released like over a decade (however the fuck that happened) but the 1st half is very good, and the things improved upon are a plus.

Read the manga and thought it was okay
watched the show up until ep 20 or so, it was okay but too try hard, not really worthy of its praise. Cool designs all around though Kaji a best

More of an otaku bait than the original, which is quite something actually, and tells a lot about EVA and the people behind it in general.
Sadamoto's manga is actually very good though, I'd argue it's better than the TV series in a lot of ways, strangled kittens aside, many characters like Kaji, Ritsuko and the bridge bunnies are better characterized, the fuyutsuki chapters with his flashback are especially good and the colored tankobon covers are really good, especially the late ones.
The Iron Maiden spinoffs manga are total garbage and Girlfriend of Steel is eh at best.

She was created at some point inside Terminal Dogma, lived in a little room on that level for a while until Gendo started showing her to people in 2010, then was placed in her apartment when she started school in 2014, that's her whole background. She could be 5 years old, 11, Yui could have participated in her creation.

It's rad out of proportion with how much it gets to do and what a pushover it ultimately is. Like Eva has this whole mythology all about why Evangelions look and work like they do, then Yamashita remembers that's all just for them and a robot can be the exact in a lot of ways, so he makes a high-mobility amphibious jetpack dinosaur with all integrated weapons that operates months without support.

The Shinji Ikari Raising Project manga is... its not bad per se, but it is the generic harem love comedy, all the cliches and tropes are there, but there isn't a story. I would not recommend to anyone.

But there is the best girl (Mana) and the best Gendo ever.

The Apocalypse Gakuen is strange as fuck, looks like it was cancelled.

The Neon Genesis Evangelion - Angelic Days is a shoujo manga with the characters of NGE, there is good parts like the adolescent days of Gendo and Yui, the fights between Kaiji and Misato.


I really wished that Anima was translated, I still cant believe that there was someone who was going to TL and then he ASKED THE WRITER if he could translate, holy shit, how dumb can you be...
