What's more noble /m/? Fighting when you have nothing or fighting those who love you more than anything for a greater cause?
>>
>>15154179
Fighting isn't noble. It's survival.
>>
>>15154201
Are you saying, not even JUSTICE? You want TRUTH?
>>
>>15154203
Can you see the truth?
>>
>>15154223
Man this show is so fucking great. I think this is Ryosuke Takahashi's take on gundam. Personally I would pick Dougram over Gundam desu.
>>
>>15154256
Technically, it's Takahashi's and Kanda's. Hell, the latter did even more not-Gundams, to the point that Dragonar is a Gundam remake in name only.
>>
Fighting for your economical interests is the most honest thing to do
>>
>>15154285
Its actually made me want to watch Votoms. The way they use the combat armors as a cross between infantry and armored units is also pretty interesting. You feel like you're seeing a war fought with regular machines instead of special war machines. Hell, even Dougram isn't that impressive. Its just a highly upgraded and specialized Soltic.

My boy. This peace is all true warrior strive for.
>>
>>15154591
In the classical sense I guess. My question was more rhetorical. But to be more specific noble in the self sacrificing sense. Like if you have nothing but you still fight for a good cause, is it still noble? But when you fight for a good cause despite the fact that you have people who love you and you have somewhere to go home to, would that be more noble?
>>
Okay /m/, Sunrise just told you to make a Dougram ova. It can be a sidestory, prequel, sequel, whatever. You got 12 episodes.

What's it about?

OVA of Rick being kawaii with his uguu eyes for an hour and a half.
>>
>>15155571
I think a sequel some years later might be nice. Deloyer and Earth have settled into an uneasy but productive peace, with Deloyer serving as the breadbasket for humanity's interstellar expansions while Earth provides its heavy industry. But the other planets in Deloyer's system have grown as prosperous as their parent, and are clamoring for independence as Deloyer once did. The series would revolve around new combat armors struggling within the X-Nebula as the Deloyerans find themselves in the same position Earth was during the original series--while Earth is pulling its own strings in the new colonies for its own ends. The OVA could be framed as a collection of news reports watched by Crinn, who's now an old man living peacefully with Daisy on Earth, and as the series goes on, we learn he's tracking the progress of his kids and grandkids, who have ended up on various different sides of the new conflict.
>>
>>15155166
I just wander what OP is up too
>>
>>15155571
I'd cover a group of Deloyeran Federation soldiers who go through the conflict becoming less and less certain of their allegiances, splintering into factions before fighting each other with one side joining up with the rebels and the other keeping with the Feds.

Dougram shot on the same sets they were filming Fist of the North Star on so they used the same stunt crews. Since Dougram was so low budget they had the stunt guys do some stand-in work, too.

You know what the depressing thing about this thread is? Look at all those mecha characters we had in the 1980's. They're WAY more daring and tougher than the ones we've had in the past 15 years.

If they tried making a group like Deloyer 7 today, it'd be full of anorexic metrosexuals and lolibait. There's no guts or grit in mecha anime anymore.

Look at Dancougar Nova. It really suffers from being a product of the 2000's. The original series wasn't perfect, but it was fun as fuck and its characters were badasses that learned to get along while at the same time, Shapiro was a badass turncoat.

Even as a little kid, I detested adolescent and most teen characters. I preferred 20somethings and older because I wanted to aspire to be like them. No kid wants to be like another shitty brat. Shit, the Dragonar Trio is something that we can't even have today.
>>

>>
>>15168331
Casts just have to be dynamic, the boys in Wing are all the same anorexic twink in different clothing, not dynamic.
>>
>>15168073
Sure explains why you had FotNS extras getting roles in Dancougar and Dragonar.
>>
>>15168331
>This.
>>
>>15168331
You know you're sorta right. This even applies to American horror films. 80's teens and 20 year olds were less reliant on tech and more independent compared to today's generation.

I wonder what happens if there was an anime that introduced a hero from the 80's in a modern series? As in, said character has the traits of an 80's hero like Cosmo Yuki and have them show up via time travel or suspended animation into an anime made in the 2010's. There's a marked cultural divide.

That was an 80's series though. What >>15169042 state was a 2010's anime that had a 1980's character. It's partly why I enjoyed Gaoranger vs Super Sentai because we saw Red Falcon interact with a 2000's hero.

>>15168331
>Dragon Trio
You know, you're absolutely right. Remember when they had their shit pushed in by Gunjym Squad? I've never seen protagonist mecha get damaged like that before in an anime.

I get what you mean about kid characters in mecha. For instance, I preferred Sleggar Law and Roy Fokker than Amuro or Hikaru. Hell, I even liked Hayao Kakizaki and Ryu Jose more. Japan is too fixated on youth. Anyone over 25 is someone whose over the hill and one of those adults who can't understand youth.

I think 80's anime didn't mind seeing macho man and kickass women because Japan was starting to become more Westernized as they got richer. More Westernization means more openness to liberalization. When their economy crashed and burned, they got disillusioned and retreated back to old-school conventions for comfort.

I do like that about the Dougram itself. It's all purpose, but still gets outclassed in most terrain by vehicles specialized for said terrain. I remember a bunch of episodes about it getting it's shit kicked in in the desert.

hitting google brings up a post here saying that the VA was expected to leave the show but then it fell through so they created Festo With A Hat
>>

His VA wanted to focus on his music career, so Festo was made THE BEST. Not really sure why they brought in a lookalike with a completely different VA and personality.

Amusingly, it turns out the only environment where it is the best giant robot aside from extreme long range (since the Turbozak is specialized equipment for that range) is in fact underwater combat because no one else gave a shit about it... And it gets its ass kicked by people in missile boats there instead.

Not even there, really- in the episodes where the FoTS and the rebels were on the defensive in Palmina, Dougram was given a hard time fighting Mackerels, and one managed to escape following an initial assault from the three of them. Even with that, it can't stay underwater that long in the end.
