General rule of thumb I'm seeing with post-UE4 Japanese PC game development
>if it isn't a Souls game, you can probably get it running on a toaster if you value performance over quality

That said, I don't think Namco-ACES was directly hands on in the port of Assault Horizon to PC, so I dunno how much of this is unfamiliar territory for them (for reference, AH on PC ran like greased lightning). UE4 is well documented in moonrune though and that's made a world of difference as seen in how widely adopted that platform is, but I'm not sure what exactly to expect for their PC executable.

What I'm curious about is if, since the Switch is apparently getting UE4 support, they could get it running on that platform with acceptable performance and quality. I'm not saying it's going to compare to playing it on a home console or high end PC rig, but the novelty of a console-style AC on a device like the Switch really appeals to me on a technical level.

>prevent human death and suffering from war

Literally the worst excuse for drone warfare ever. Great, so your soldiers/pilots don't die but wars are now easier to justify than ever.
>>
It seems clouds are the big thing in 7.

>"In the past we used overlapping texture plates to appear as clouds. But this time we created them using 3D models," Kono said. But as mundane as this might sound, the advancement in the series' cloud creation technology is not purely aesthetic. Kono explained that in creating levels for Ace Combat 7, the placement of fully-formed, volumetric clouds is an attempt to change the way players approach the act of dogfighting.

>"In the open sky, when players get into a dogfight, they tend to just loop around and around all the time [in the process of evading enemy fighters]. But this time we can cut off that loop by giving aircraft an option of banking into a cloud to escape." In our short hands-on experience with the game, this did prove to be a quick and effective way to break line-of-sight, get someone off your tail, and reset the advantage.

>Clouds aren't always good news, however. "You have to be careful because you don't just worry about the size of the cloud. In it, there’s a difference in wind currents, and the temperature changes." Staying in a thick cloud for too long could cause your vision to be obscured with moisture in cockpit view, your fighter could suffer icing which would cause you to stall, or you could crash into another plane. "Once you get out of the loop and into the cloud, it isn't always necessarily safe. Sometimes more dangerous. So what’s new is that judgement call and shift in strategy you have to make yourself."

Actually it seems more that test pilot guy is testing the g-suit more than anything. Whether it's to prolong the combat viability of soldiers so that even grizzled vets can keep up with the youngsters, or if it's to allow a human to transcend physical limitations and compete with automated combat drones, that's something I don't know the answer.

The way I see it, the game's going to cover the subject of the COFFIN system.

the F-23 looks slightly more sleeker from the front than the somewhat taller looking F-22

I heard it was faster too, but for some reason the F-22 was chosen because the US thought a stealth fighter needed to be good at dogfighting, as opposed to the engage and fly-the-fuck-away-faster doctrine the F-23 was designed for

C) The pvp elements were horrifically imbalanced in the absence of CRA, with matches always going to whoever bribed their way into the broken plane of the month

Besides, you know what game mode really needs to come back?

Capital Conquest.

No, you watch the video faggot. He states that when they were first developing AC7, they started working on the AH engine, and did a lot of prototyping work in it. But they've since then moved into UE4 and are using TrueSky middleware for the cloud rendering.

AH Engine was used strictly for gameplay prototyping. Main development and final implementation is all UE4 + TrueSky.

Dancing with angels meme aside, how exactly is AC6?
It's one of the few Strangereal ACs I haven't touched yet, never had a box of X.

Its fun, has really large scale battles compared to earlier (and later) games and has sexy missile contrails, but limited plane roster.
That said, you could give your planefu a slick paintjob which would also affect your stats, and the operations game mechanic means there's a ton of replayability.
>>
>>15167351
The paintjobs aren't just aesthetic?
What sorcery is that?
>>
>>15167319
Fucking perfect.

Still going to support Project Wingman though.
>>
>>15167319
That's exactly how I felt after finishing the japanese AC3.
Still among the best ACs though.
>>
Erusea vs Osea is cool and all, and a good way to dive back into Strangereal I guess, but I'd really wanted to see more of then non explored countries in Strangereal.
Like, having a Verusean War, between Yuktobania and all those other countries neighboring it that we know absolutely nothing about. Sotoa kinda looks like Africa, there should be no shortage of wars there.
Maybe a handheld game like X would be best for that kind of more regional conflict. Are handhelds still a thing yet?

It was one of the things Vita did so well then they just forgot about it for PS4 even though it has a motion sensor.

According to a developer, Sotoa is based on the the Middle East and unlike it's real-life counterpart, it has no oil fields/reservoirs.

It's incredibly forgettable despite having some pretty good music.

That said I think it has the best cockpit view so far of the franchise. Remains to be seen if 7's VR will oneup it on that front, but getting a nice pulled-back view with active dashboard implements was quite immersive.

ALSO YOU COULD SEE YOUR LEGS.

YOU KNOW YOU'VE HIT THE BIG LEAGUES WHEN YOUR GAME LETS YOU SEE YOUR OWN LEGS.

Apparently the cockpit instruments in 7 will be all functional too.
No idea about the legs though.

I'd like to see a game set during the estovakian civil war, and have you play as the squadron that becomes strigon team. It could mirror the current conflict in ukraine, and have yuktobania invade during the height of the civil war to take back their land (assuming estovakia is like a balkan state).

So much slavshit planes and absurd soviet-tech superweapons

When there was no merit to it in terms of his justification and then the damage control claiming it wasn't a ban targeting Muslims when they specifically carved out exceptions for Christians. Plus, the false equivalency to Obama's policy putting a freeze of Visas from Iraq after the FBI found that terrorists might have exploited a loophole to get into the US. So Obama's freeze was justified because he got intel saying there was a flaw that needed to be fixed. There was no such issue when Trump issued his Muslim ban. Now we get to see a Constitutional Crisis when he ignores the Federal court's order saying the ban is unconstitutional and blocked pending appeal.

So what emulator do you /m/agpies recommend for Ace Combat 3? I used to use epsxe but people tell me that sucks now.

I finished AC3 all endings back in december using epsxe in my toaster. It ran pretty good.

What's the point?
>>
>>15174718
RA is not an emulator. Mednafen PSX is.
>>
>>15169068
Functional in what way? As in, the instruments actually reflecting the current state of the plane? The bearing indicator on the A-10's canopy spinning accurately?

I have a flightsim on my phone that does that.
>>
>>15174918
Because it's referring to the Julius Cesar-attributed quote of "Veni, vidi, vici", which is usually translated as "I came, I saw, I conquered".
>>
>>15167119
If it's on steam doesn't that mean there will be no physical media release for PC?
>>
>>15168356
Wait, 6 is the only Ace that did that so far?
>>
>>15175488
Yes but Veni on its own doesn't mean "I came"...
>>
>>15175558
No, Steam is just a platform for digital downloads/sales.

Plenty of games have physical discs and Steam/Origin/Uplay/GOG sales as well.
>>
>>15175561
04 onward had some animated elements, I think compasses, tachometers and the horizon gyro were the most you could expect. One of the cooler cockpits was the Falken, which not only transformed along with the plane when exposing the TLS, but also had the dash point the little "currently armed weapon" arrow up and down based on if you were on missiles or TLS.

It was with 6 however that I distinctly remember the game would plaster the actual map texture you'd see if you blew up the map view onto a plane's MFD if it had one, and that shit blew my mind.

I'd assume Assault Horizon might've had some of that going on too, but you'd never see it because the game returns the cockpit FOV to PS2-era "dry hump the dashboard and HUD reflector," and that's just in normal play. It's a shame because the game really put the extra effort into adding these little touches like the different warning voices, I could totally believe someone put time into animating a MFD element for a few planes that displayed stuff like the currently selected weapon, and no one would ever find out about it because of the FOV setting.

>>15176939
I don't think Steam games with disc releases have had the actual game as on-disc data for a while now, they're just there to install Steam and ask for the CD key.
>>
Huh, we can get away with AC shitposting on /m/? Might be my new favorite.
