Original Kouji was more cheerful and way less dramatic than his shin counterpart, so his voice fits.

They really should leave Ishimaru alone and let him voice Ultraman Taro.
But Kouji's Shin VA was just bland, honestly. Especially compared to the almost perfect Getter Robo Armageddon cast.

You guys have to understand, TOEI is using the same technique they used with Dragon ball with Battle of the Gods, if Mazinger Z merch sells well, they will indeed make a brand new series. Dynamic Pro is nice and all but they won't continue to succeed on only 40+ year olds who love Mazinger. Toei is the best way to connect to the Youth while using nostalgia bombs. Dragon ball Super has been a success because Toei has been dropping nostalgia bombs (now Female Broly) and selling TONS of merchandise. If this movie is successful I see them doing the same with a proper Mazinger TV show.

As long the movie is in capable hands and the merch sells we might see a revival of the super robot Mazinger Z that we long awaited for.

Well, originally, it was actually supposed to be a Dynamic pro crossover, but that was even before Imagawa got on board and apparently they had no real direction for the project, which is Imagawa scrapped it all. They specifically mentioned Getter appearing. Then Imagawa was the one who pushed for the Z Mazinger adaptation and they eventually settled on the remake of the manga with some original and Z Mazinger elements.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Bandai marketing was the reason they had to go with a manga remake in the first place. The marketing campaign wouldn't have worked at all with a Z Mazinger anime.
